How to get into the leaderboard
Run Overpowered and Skillless builds, and then perform better than everyone who runs those builds in the top 1000.
A bit of luck. But if youre semi ok, top 1000 shouldnt be that much of an issue.
Get better yourself and carry you team.
a simple brainless build can not carry you, if you don’t know how to rotate or team fight.
top 1000 is easy
Pretty much what Chase and Locuz said. Especially once you start getting 4 out of 5 matches being Skyhammer and your teams zerg all of the points.
Its funny how either Locuz or Chase are in top 1000, but anyway
all you need to do is win, by win, i mean out performance, by out performance, i mean by winning 1v1s, be useful in team fights, and rotate properly between points, and properly target weakened enemy.

Once you are within the 91%-80 ish % range you need about 4-6 wins in a row to break into top 1000. If you don’t give yourself the 4-6 wins you can end up around rank 900 and 1 loss immediately drops you back into “hell” aka 91-80% range. The only trick to winning that many matches in a row is usually determined by people which aren’t good in that match bracket and you can easily 2v1 and “carry” your team.
everytime xghoul is on my team i lose, true story rip elo :/
But ya, as long as you can 1v2 consistently it should be easy, I won like 20 games in a row to get top 100 (after losing 4 in a row), 3 of those were 4v5s, 1 was a 3v5, it didnt matter though because the people down there are just learning and you can circle strafe them as they try to keyboard turn after you.

Im currently ranked 175th. Im on eu tho so youre probably checking the US ladder if you cant find me.

Play meta builds that can hold their own instead of builds that rely on others to peel for you when you’re pressured. Learn to peel for teammates. Learn to rotate effectively. Learn the downstate game. Dont go to far after youve won mid (youll die)
Before the leaderboard police jump me: I was 300ish NA last I played…Work on the stuff above and Im sure youll break 1000 in no time!
Pretty sure there is no solid way to break into leaderboards reliably without having both skill, luck(lots of it) and a decent build, its a pretty messed up system if you ask me

aaand pretty sure im rank 2 about now this is over the span of about a week, i was also rank 6 like last month and… like in the percentiles 2 weeks ago. Its pretty erratic and jumpy and def needs some review
edit: this is solo ladder if that’s what you’re referring to
Step 1: Play randomly and get near Top 5
Step 2: Stop playing and fall into Percentiles
Step 3: Play a single match and get placed into high tiers again
I can’t even remember what rank I was before I stopped joining SoloQ.
Just played a single match and i’m r17 wut!? o.O
So, I’ve seen a few mentions of having to be able to easily / consistently win 1v2. I can’t do that.
Now it’s quite likely I’m just that bad. But on the tiny chance that it’s the class I’m most often running (Ranger), my question is what build are you running that can consistently win 1v2?
So does this go off your score in the game and not the win/lose? if so that is easy to get a higher score.
In soloQ cheese build>luck with team composition (you want to have cheese builds in your team too)>any skill above basic map understanding.
So basically leaderboards shows not how good, but rather how warrior\engie you are.

Ranger’s cheese is a spirit build. It isn’t that much 1v2 build, more about team support and bunking, but if you won’t be able to win 1v2 you’ll definitely wont loose.
Or try something like condi warrior or prismatic mesmer and enjoy people struggling and dying against you casually clicking few buttons.
Take it from a big dog..you must break your back carrying 2/4 people you are with or the odds of you losing are tremendous. Especially with the low pop casuals who all play solo Q…its disgusting.

Find some friends and play team queue.
Discuss your matches and your builds. Get in a nice top rated player to take you through some matches and teach you about comps and roles, bunker rotations etc.
Take what you learn from this into solo Q and you WILL be top 300 on eu..
prolly top 10 on NA

No one knows for sure how the system works, but I find it rather confusing that people with a couple of matches are ranked higher than people with thousands of matches.
As Bheezem already said, this system really seems to be messed up – and I doubt it has even remotely any form of ELO logic behind it.
Whilst it might open the door to some “ladder exploiting”, I think a detailed explanation how the ladder works would be beneficial. Yet I highly doubt we will ever get that.
There’s around 100 people playing PvP still. Just wait for those who quit to fall down in rankings due to decay then play 1 game and win and you’ll be top100. Do it fast though because I heard the new rewards will bring back a lot of players…

well I give up on it than, seems like it’s not really a solo thing just like team arena only you don’t get to pick your team.
If you play 20 games and win 18 of them and then stop playing. Before you know it you shall be nĂºmero uno
The biggest problem is that newer and unexperienced players skyrocket to relatively high spots on the leaderboard. The result is that youll see people of all skill and experience levels with similar MMR…..which is the direct opposite of what an MMR system should be doing.
What we need is a beginner league, quite like in mobas.
New players that queue for rated games will get in to games with other newer players. They get the same rewards and play in games with MMR. Once they won 100 matches they get the option to queue for rated ladder games. After 100 wins the system has somewhat of an idea of the MMRrange that you can handle.

Everyone seems to think they get to a certain % and then can’t get any higher because other players are bad. That is simply not true. You are not going higher, because this is where you belong in the leaderboards. Think about it this way… how did you move from 60% to 85%? Those players were less skilled than the players at 90%. The reason you moved up is because you were able to carry your team.
In other words, you stop moving up once you reach the point where you can no longer carry teams. (of course it is easier to carry teams with certain specs than others)
I have been playing now in solo arena for a bit and find it very grrr at time, but today I was at 91% on the leaderboard and then lose 3 games in a row and now dropped down to 87%.
How on earth do you get into the leaderboard when you have to rely on other players and their skills?
Also what about the 4 v 5 games when you get players who give up at the start and don’t wish to try?Is there anyway to get there with your own skills and game play or is this just a game of chance, in which you hope you get a good team that knows how to play?
Yes, you will hit 4 v 5s or just get bad teams from time to time, but everyone does. Play enough games and this averages out, so just make the most of what you have.
Here’s what I have found to work:
1) Communicate – Deciding who is going where at the start helps, but you also should try to shout out incomings or where teammates are needed. Because of the downed/rally system, fights heavily influenced based on who has the most teammates present. If your team is wasting time running to the wrong place, your team will be outnumbered in team fights, which puts them at a very big disadvantage.
This doesn’t mean just shouting out orders. This also means listening. Sometimes the best course of action is to help out a mediocre strategy that someone else proposes instead of wasting a bunch of time arguing for a better strategy.
2) Focus on the objectives – Don’t get caught up fighting on roads or spending a ton of time fighting a bunker on a node they control (unless you can knock them off the point and decap it).
3) Play a strong build and play it well – There are some builds that are particularly strong in carrying teams in solo queue, such as bunkers and decap engis. Builds that work well independently are generally more reliable in solo queue since you can’t always rely on your team sticking together for team fights.
For example, I switched from a meditation DPS build on my Guard to a bunker build because the team utility and extra cleave for team fights was often wasted, whereas, I could still stand my ground and decap points with knockbacks when playing as a bunker.
Just realize that if you have an awesome build for your team in tPvP, it may not shine the same way in solo queue and vice/versa.
4) Play a decent number of games – Some people get a good lucky streak when they start doing solo queue and soar up the leaderboard since, unfortunately, there is a relatively low quota of games that need to be played to move up. However, playing a good number of games will still move you up and will also make you a better player by giving you more experience. Rating also decays if you don’t play for a while, which is even more reason to play regularly.
Hope that helps. Good luck!
1) start watching streams to learn the best map movement patterns. ask questions as to why an who they sent to a particualr point
2) play solo in teamQ to get practice on theese “better” strategies. If you get lucky youl be grouped with a 4man team who will communicate and play properly
3) Improve your actual gameplay (1v1 against each class, your role in a teamfight..)
Id like to add one:
Play late at night. This system makes MMR irrelevant when only few people are online. So if you queue at night and a few top 1000 are playing you will be matched with or against them even if youre a lot lower rated.
And the nice thing is…you dont have to sit in queue for ages either “to expand the search”. I was matched with a low % necro earlier tonight who waited 30 secs while i had instant pop. I was somewhere in the top 100-200 range that moment.
Thank you all for the reply some good info here. I do agree Locuz at night you get in to games a lot faster and they seem to be game that hit around 4xx v 5xx.
I’ll work on a bunker/decaper build with my engineer and forget about the top 1k for now and work on getting myself better to carry team (or try too).
Don’t play an elementalist.
ignore leaderboards – its broken
last time i checked rank was when i had 9 wins in a row solo in teamQ on 96% – with 9 wins down to 94%
now i ignore it and just farm champ titles – and game is fun again
How to make top 500 easily in team queue:
1. Queue up for team queue.
2. Wait 30mins for queue to pop.
3. Win/Lose the bare minimum amount of games to get ranked.
4. Get ranked top 500 because no one team queues.
Then you can start to pretend that you’rr good. Remember to always state you’re top 500 #espahts, especially on the forums.
