… will I get eaten alive?

Wait, don’t answer that, I am new so obviously I will. That whole skill thing… No, what I want to know is what the attitude is towards noobs like me?

I’ve played the game since launch, leveled a couple of characters and played some WvW. There, the entry point was easier since you could always hide in the zerg, but with the meta increasingly shifting towards zergs it’s just not as fun. I miss the old GW random arenas. But, since PvP is so completely different to the rest of the game, the step feels huge.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not afraid of losing, I am just worried that I will let my team down. After all, I know nothing, and the builds seem quite different in PvP. How do you guys feel about total noobs in your games? What should I avoid not to be too annoying? Any good advice?

Right now I enjoy playing my sword/warhorn power ranger (I know), my fresh air d/d ele and my phantom mesmer. Have a max level guardian, but not too fond of the playstyle, and is experimenting with an engineer that feels cool.

Well GW2 pvp is node capping so its more about your intelligence as person and situational awareness to succeed here, skill as player or certain profession is only required at higher levels.
Ress others, dont die if you can survive, if you have to die then die on node, and just overall think what your doing, watch minimap to see where is your team etc. etc.
Plan what your doing instead of just rushing for max damage done and people will be fine with you.

Practice in 5v5 Hotjoins until you are comfortable and/or confident.

just know how to play your role well. most people who flame during a match are the bad players anyways so don’t get bothered by them.

btw, you can use the training mobs at the training ground. i think that all newbies should try them first before plunging in to pvp. just keep playing. don’t stop until you mastered your class/build.

Play the game how ever you think is best. If someone is calling you trash in solo que let them. They are ignorant baboons who probably don’t know how to play themselves. Just play the way you enjoy playing and eventually you will learn.

I can’t speak for others, but I myself don’t mind when I get queued into someone that clearly has no clue what he’s doing. We all started noobs once.

I’m also not gonna be telling you what to do, unless you’re listening to the commentary on my stream.

There are thousands, if there are that many left, that still play like noobs even though they are all rank 30+. After playing for that long, you would think they have learned how to play spvp, but that is not the case. So don’t worry about letting them down. They will let you down. And you will flame them. I guarantee it.

Well, thanks for the advice. I guess I’ll start out with what’s familiar to get a feel for things. Now only to choose between ranger and mesmer… Ranger seems to be more forgiving for beginners, but everybody always seem to hate them. I guess I’ll just avoid the spirits…

Going in of my ele with my fresh air build would make me melt sooo fast I think.

why worry about what other people will say? that’s not the right path to be happy. just choose which ever class you feel is fun for you.

Just try it, no preparation required. Use several different builds/professions and just see what feels fun and effective to you. As you play more, you’ll change your builds based on what you find works or doesn’t work.

Well every www player can be hot join hero. I am like worst www player ever (75k kills and i have win two duels) and i am still top 3 almost every match. sPvP actually feels very easy because damage is so low.

Eh..PvP’s not really worth the trouble.
