One and a half years since release and we’re getting five new grandmaster traits per class and one new healing skill per class.

Decap engis just totally ruin solo q. They really do. It is just unplayable and I quit it because of them. Or I just run troll builds.

On decap engis…just thinking about that new grand master turret trait which reflects projectiles. Would it be possible for a Asura Engineer to fit under that bubble? Because if they can removing a decap engineer from a point is going to even harder than it is now…

Dude, why would they spoil the stuff nobody cares about. If they do a preview it should say the are addressing the things people care about. They just haven’t addressed decap engi or pistol whip thief in the patch. That is the conclusion. You forget we have been around this pvp world for a long time and we know what is going to happen. This blog confirms it. Dev posts have confirmed it. “Minimal” balance changes.

If the only new addition to build diversity we get are these grandmaster traits and the rune updates, I’m going to be extremely disappointed.
Looking back, that dev post about “#elepocalypse” is super hilarious now. I thought that we would be getting new utilities, new elites, and new weapon sets, but I guess my expectations got the best of me; granted, that’s what happens when you shove everything in a “Feature Patch” that is over four months away and say absolutely nothing about it until it’s on the verge of release.

LOL, you made me laugh. I can understand your frustration because I feel it too on these particular builds/weapon sets. I was dissapointed as well from seeing the same exact information they told us previously on that Ready Up months ago. Literally the same. But, I’m still keeping hopes that those summaries of the changes aren’t even close to what’s being changed. I’m hoping it’s much much larger. Anyways, let’s wait for the stream here in an hour and a half.

Back on track, yeah, I’m also feeling very underwhelmed from today’s blog posts. They gave us nothing new, just rephrased things we’ve known for a month. I understand what they showed us is a preview, but the last time we got a balance preview it ended up being 80% of the entire balance patch.
I agree with Anet that balance needs to be done in iteration, but they seemed to have missed the memo that iteration only works when done in consistent short intervals. Their balance philosophy would work if they were released every month, not every 4 months.

You must not play PvP much as Pistol whip thieves are the easiest type of thieves to kill. Pistol whip was useless until recently. Now it got fixed. There are many more valid and critical things to complain about balance in this game than pistol whip.
I’m usually the first one to jump at A-net’s thought but this time, even I feel the need to back them up…
There will be 3 RU’s, in the first they will talk about the new Grand Master traits, that does not mean that there will be no more balance changes besides that. There are still 2 more RU’s after this one which will give us more info on the patch including the new spvp map that we know will not be conquest mode.
I’d suggest you sit back and relax, watch all 3 RU’s and then play the game after the patch hits, at that point, you can jump on A-net’s neck if you feel like it, until then lvl a new toon or just take a brake.

Perhaps they have some changes in traits in the work (removing automated response, decreasing the power of sleight of hand builds or fewer quickness procs) that will bring these builds a little bit more in-line. I do 100% agree that if you just removed thieves for a week, you would see WAY more build diversity instantly. But they will probably just buff thieves again…b/c bad thief players whine about being “the most nerfed class” (that is still unreasonably OP when played right).
I mostly agree with OP, but their hint that they are removing the Death magic minors wasn’t in the previously previewed trait changes. So, there may yet be one surprises.
I’m extremely disappointed.
@OP you know absolutely Nothing about the actual patch notes so before QQ why not wait until april 15th ? Im tired of the QQ from baddies who cant play , just roll a decap engi for now n play

It is not a preview, it is more like some kind of reanouncement.
So why don’t they tell us new stuff?
They should expect these reaction, when the only thing they tell us is, what we already know.
Leaving us questioning: Why don’t they tell us anything new?
If there actually were some good + new balance changes, why wouldn’t they tell us?
Do they prefer a dozen flame threads in the forums over players being happy about the changes they made?

How about why there are so many passives in an action/reaction orientated game and how stupidly effective and powerful they are? How about why there are so many pets and AI in PvP?
How about nearly all condition-oriented specs also being primarily defensive stat-wise? How about Clensing ire, and how it works with long bow? How it only takes 20 trait points to have the best reliable condition removal in the game and have one of the most survivable specs with healing signet and longbow, defending against both condition and raw damage, and then can put all the other traits and stats into offensive lines and still be one of the hardest things to kill in the game.

And dagger/pistol thieves don’t? Dagger/dagger? Pistol/dagger? Sword/dagger? That’s just how the thief is: the complication isn’t in the skill rotation or usage, it’s in the positioning, timing, and twitch-reaction to survive the 2 hits it takes to kill them.
For a warrior, the skill is in the skill rotation. The heavy armor, healing signet, and cleansing ire gives the warrior one of the most inherently defensive specs in the game. The problem isn’t that the warrior can have these things, the problem is that the warrior can achieve this with only 20 trait points.

A bit ago people started tossing around the idea of celestial-amulet-only custom arenas. Anet utterly ignored it.

Only how well the specs are made matters.
There could be 4 specs with frivilous customization, but if they were well made with a halfway decent game mode… it’d make a solid game.

It enforces build wars in a game that can’t play build wars.
There is no teamwork or depth or really much of anything to stop a fight against a counter from being a blowout. GW2 is a solo skirmishy game, casual gameplay isn’t made for counter specs AT ALL, and so people will QQ about them all day on these forums.

Why do people keep wishing for nerfs on classes they have a hard time beating while asking for buffs to their class. Yes I agree with thieves being a strong pick nowadays, but I disagree with the whole “Oh gawd nerf pistol whip because it kill me.” It’s a strong skill it is, but it doesn’t need a nerf. Dodging is not as hard as it seems, it just getting used to fight thieves. If you’re getting attacked by a thief and he immobalizes you, you can bet that he’s going to whip you. Condition removal, stunbreakers or a dodge work against it. It costs initiative. If it fails it’s a waste of burst.
Warriors need a nerf on their sustain, which they are getting on through the 8% nerf on healing signet which is slightly low, I think at least a 15% would be justified.
Nerf bunker guardians and what do you have? Guardians were meant to be tanky, they’re the closest thing you have to a tank in this game (Along with warriors). All their skills shout that. You can build other builds of course but they won’t be as reliable as the others.

Pistol whip does counter some builds, but it mostly counters the stupid passive/pettingzoo builds that are so prominent in the game right now. I don’t think that’s such a bad thing, to be honest. Unskillful builds that prioritize AI and passives like that need to be played less, and having a build that can more-easily deal with them is a good thing in my eyes.
Pistolwhip gameplay makes Warrior gameplay look complicated.
And dagger/pistol thieves don’t? Dagger/dagger? Pistol/dagger? Sword/dagger? That’s just how the thief is: the complication isn’t in the skill rotation or usage, it’s in the positioning, timing, and twitch-reaction to survive the 2 hits it takes to kill them.
For a warrior, the skill is in the skill rotation. The heavy armor, healing signet, and cleansing ire gives the warrior one of the most inherently defensive specs in the game. The problem isn’t that the warrior can have these things, the problem is that the warrior can achieve this with only 20 trait points.
I understand that other things like cleansing ire and all the other meta builds have issues but why does that make S/P ok? Lol. S/P is easier than hambow to play. It is the most ruthless and noob friendly weapon set to play. You’re basically saying that if there were 5 people that robbed a bank that the police should just arrest one of them and the others are fine. S/P is a huge issue in the current meta and if you fail to see it I really don’t know what to tell you.
Why bother balancing if you plan on adding 40 new traits, new runes and sigils and whatever else they have in store?
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
What bothers me the most is that we are unable to use different rune sets in spvp after the patch. There are some runes who give good boni in the 5/6 range but the 6th bonus is not good all the time, like the scholar runes. One hit and your 6/6 bonus is gone. Its like you would just use only 5 and not 6 runes on set. We all now how easy it is to drop as a glasscanon under 90% hp. Your first combo profits from the 10% and after that you get one bleed and its gone.
I hope we are still able to mix runes. The rune balance itself and how the runes will look is on another side and we will see.
