I, for one, welcome our new Mesmer overlords...
Nah engi is next. I hope its ranger shortbow 1 spam lol
Stunned Girls Can’t Say No <Hawt>
I bet Engineer will be next too. People are figuring out burst builds, chain CC builds, constant boon builds, and learning how to combine at least two of them well.
Nah engi is next. I hope its ranger shortbow 1 spam lol
My bet is on the Ranger Shortbow 1 spam. Starting to seem them all the time now. And it takes even less skill to pull off than Thief’s or Mesmer’s.

you’d be surprised at how untrue this statement is.
Sure, QZ and crossfire = burst, but we have no way to heal, often draws great and ferocious attention to ourselves, and rarely ever downs a person. It’s greatly countered by retaliation and confusion, and reflection.
Move along, nothing to see here.
Last night there was a sudden increase of Engineers in all of my games. The raise of its popularity makes me worried.
People, please don’t play Engineer. We don’t want nerfs.

Yeah, Engineer needs to be nerfed more. The fact there’s been an Engi nerf in nearly every update since launch just isn’t enough. It took several weeks for me to tweak my CC bunker build to have adequate burst, so please nerf that as well.

The amount of classes in this game that can perform even at an average level by simply popping a couple of big cooldowns and single-buttoning their way to victory is astounding.

Ah someone bad at pvp. Sorry its very easy to pull off, and since most of the QQ is from spvp that is what i was talking about. With zergs its very easy to do. Just pick your targets correctly. And really its not that big of a deal that you can’t heal. You telling me you can’t figure out when your not going to need to heal in the next 4 sec?

Nice job, however, I am fairly skilled at sPvP and tPvP and do not rely on QZ and sb 1 spam. And I mention these counters because yes, I fell victim to these and this is how I know what easily counters sb 1 spam.
I mentioned these above to point out the down side and counters to this new method of sb spam by rangers. And yes, since rangers often engage at ranged, they can evoke the spam before you close, but if you can withstand this, and then get a heal off, you’ve just completely kittened that ranger. He has to wait 45s for it to refresh. If yoiu can’t eat him in that time, I wonder who the worst player here is???
And btw, I will see you in game :p
@teviko.6049
Your counters are only available to a small collection of the Prof. So in other words not really a counter for most Prof. So how about trying again.
And since we are talking about spvp, again it is very easy to use this set up. Or are you such a bad player that you think the game is only about 1v1? Oh and I never said it was the best or the only build for rangers, just that it would be the next thing that players would QQ about.
And i never said i had problems with it or that i think it should be nerfed.
Little defensive? Sounds like you do use this.
Lol I hope you realize the only reason rangers use SB 1 spam is because that’s the only half-decent damaging skill we have in the game.
He really isn’t. Longbow AA is very nearly the same damage at MAX range as Shortbow 1 skill is. Shortbow also has the benefit of poison, and a super fast AA for crit-proc builds, bleed stacking builds, or crit/power builds to benefit from. Longbow is pidgeon-holed into a Rapid Fire/Quickening Zephyr build. Only reason to even take it is the vulnerability shot and knockback.
Sword has excellent damage, but it suffers from a bug that causes you to lock into the attack animation preventing other actions. Only way to handle it is by turning off AA, but even then you can still get locked the moment you need to use a heal or something else.
Axe is OK, I suppose. Outclassed by shortbow, though. GS does the same damager per hit as sword with an attack speed 1/3 of it. It’s a shame it was so overnerfed in the BWEs. The skill set is excellent.

When combat is over so fast since healers are gone and there is no resilence( hate mentioning mechanics from “that” game) what else is to be expected? In this system burst dps is king, same is true for pve mostly as well.
In games with healers and much lowers damage done by players to players fights last longer and burst dps has to chose when to blow their load; if they do it too soon then they are left spent and open for a counter attack, too late and they are dead.
As long as combat is so twitch happy then cafeful consideration and timing on abilities will always take a back seat to boom your dead builds.
Burst DPS is not king when everyone has at least two forms if not plenty more of active mitigation. Is it good? Sure, but so is sustained pressure. I mean, I play both and I cannot make up my mind which is better in tPvP.

thief might not be the most OP but theyre the cheapest by far. espcially with the rendering bug I just die before they even show up on my screen. and im not a glass cannon build.
sure you can beat kitten hs spammers(still takes way to much effort to kill these skilless kitten) but theyre getting better and figured out the cheapkitten that is CnD+Steal+signetBackstab which pretty much 1shots every class unless they see it coming. which is kinda hard when they arent actually visible.
What’s up for next week? I think Guardians is next week, and then maybe we’ll do Thief again a week after that.
I play necro and elementalist. I feel safe my classes won’t be mentioned for a while
@StSwfx
What is there to nerf??
They already took away our GS.
Our pets are borked
1/3 of our DPS is in our broken pets – Our pets hit roughly 1/8 of the time (so in effect, rangers have to rely upon their own burst skills, and trust me, thats weak)
SOmeone made a really REALLY OP ele build, so OP that not even they think its balanced.
When this forum discovers that, that’ll be the next one.

I’d say burst damage is king right there right now. Try a condition build and watch your conditions closely. A lot are wiped and you can start from scratch. Direct damage is good, because you pumped it full load into your opponent. Burst is even better because it forces your opponent on the defensive and if he isn’t careful he is dead at once – at least in this game.
I do play a condition build right now. I primarily play my engineer. In my anecdotal experience for tPvP, I do better as my Engineer then my Mesmer. Condition removal in my experience can be easily overloaded and then becomes useless leaving them open to my full damage. Direct damage can be harshly countered by the protection boon in general.
Burst applications of direct damage or condition damage can be countered by mitigation skills. Direct damage is often a whole lot more bursty then condition application, and thus is generally more vulnerable to that mitigation. Honestly, even when I am hit by a Bull’s Charge into Hundred Blades with Frenzy… I don’t die. 25k Health with Protection means I survive, and am now capable of dodging the Eviscerate. At this point I have regeneration and have just healed off a lot of the damage with my healing skill. In my experience, it’s extremely easy to counter burst damage. If you think 25k health with Protection is a tanky build, it’s not really. I have around 2k power and around 1.2k condition damage, with a Carrion Amulet and Earth rune combination.

The lowest represented profession, Engineer, won’t be nerfed.
We have one viable build in tPvP: Bunker. As bunker our damage output is laughable, but we host a lot of utility and we can achieve high HP and toughness.
As not bunker, in order to deal worthwhile damage you have to sacrifice a ton of defensive traits and stats, making you an easy target to kill.
PRO-TIPS, if you encounter an engineer:
- Does the engineer deal significant damage? Have your team focus them ASAP. They’ll die quickly, guaranteed. If you notice the engineer use Quickness, especially focus on them! They’re probably some gimmicky elixir-burst build.
- Does the engineer deal pathetic damage? Ignore or control the bunker engineer until you kill off his teammates.
The only damage-oriented engineers out there are probably being carried by their team, allowing them to “deal damage”.
untrue
I have seen some nifty engi builds out there. Just today, in fact.
condition engis are the worst. Dunno what skills they are using, but the moment I get in range, I suddenly have every condition in the book on my bar. Strip it, and it comes right back (and no…I am sure it is an engi, after all, the turrets give it away, and the fact that no other profession is around….)
Are we talking about bunker pistol/shield engineers? Sure, they’ll deal condition damage. It won’t tick for anything. They also lack utility compared to a bunker rifle engineer.
If it’s a damage-oriented pistol/shield engineer, know this:
- They’re still squishy as hell.
- Shield skills are very nice, but they’re on long CDs. Save your CDs until they use shield skills, and then burn them.
Cleanse poison before you heal, and ignore cleansing anything else because pistol CDs are short and they’ll just reapply.

So, 1 person out of idk how many thousands of ele players managed to find 1 build that is uber OP with no counters in the game from other classes? Rly? Give that man a medal!

Honestly I’m not a fan of bunker engineers. I know there are some good builds out there for it, but I think Ele and Guardian are just simply better at it.
Honestly I think Teviko is experiencing something more like the build I use, which is 30/10/0/30/0 with Grenade Kit, Bomb Kit, and Double Pistol. Add on a Carrion Amulet and Earth runes. You simply light up your opponent with all conditions, blinds and evades to mitigate damage, and you have elixirs for condition removal and massive boon support. I destroy the conventional duelists such as a Thief and Mesmer with the build, and have permanent Swiftness to boot.
It actually sort of was nerfed recently, with the Freeze Grenade bug fix. Although, that’s not a nerf in my book. I don’t think it needs to be nerfed, but I can certainly compete with the so-called overpowered professions. Mesmers in particular are easy for me, but perhaps that’s because I play one on the side. Right now no one understands how the bombs work, so that leads to excessively easy wins.

Gilgamesh, we (engineers) have been nerfed with almost every balance patch despite being the least represented. Starting off with the flamethrower (juggernaut-stability) nerf and more recently the mine field (blast-finisher) nerf. I think only one balance patch has actually not contained significant nerfs for engineer, which was the most recent patch.
Kinda funny really, when you consider how John Peters says they don’t do knee-jerk balancing. The engineer’s seen plenty of it since week 1, more than any other class. No time was given for the meta to ‘adjust’ for either mine field or juggernaut. Oh well, thats what we get for playing the class that was tacked on at the very end.
