Well said, very fun alternative and your 100% true about cant do much about it. The developers only listen to the top 50 players, when they whine they do whatever it takes to make them happy again, everyone else gets shafted.

This map isn’t the top 50 players backyard there’s a whole new breed of folks that rule this ballgame.

Also when I solo que’ed I actually fought against other solo que and not premade bullkitten, my wins have gone up recently due to this. But now its going to get stale again and I’ll be facing the same premades with either 1 person disadvantage a newplayer on my team and other such issues.

They don’t cater for the growth of pvp they cater to make the top 50 happy.

Uh, there are sandwurms that hit for 30k if you manage to survive the fall. Also the glass lasting a short period is fine: It’s more strategic this way since you have to keep track of your opponent and the platform. I’ve lured plenty of thieves and warriors to their death by standing on the glass and dodging off at the last moment.

It’s also funny to immob/snare ranged classes that are trying to kite while they are still on the glass. Making the glass last longer would kill some of the interesting ways people are playing without using stuns/KDs/etc and reduce it to who has the most KDs/Stuns/blowback cheese to knock people off.

You still have to wait for them to kill you, the map really should just zap you the moment you pass a threshold. Makes it far easier and a smoother transition.

I don’t mean for the glass to last decades, just longer than a general knockback “falling” animation that you cannot stun break. Its just too easy at the moment to send someone to their death without any way for the player to “make amends”. That way, landing a Banish or other launch/updraft isn’t an auto-win.

When there are options to the most optimal way to play this map, then I hope we can see Skyhammer back in the rotation. I saw way too many teams running some combination of ranger on skyhammer, full cc engineers (occasionally necros) roaming sidepoints, and guardians running full aoe stability at mid and sidepoint. A meta that consists of three professions is not very inclusive or fun. And yes, I know there are options for other professions to be successful, but this is more or less the optimal way to play the map. And in competitive, tournament play, people will always go for most optimal.

Currently, Skyhammer plays like a minigame.

I think one of the biggest things Arenanet could do to alleviate this is remove the glass panels by the sidepoint nodes (or perhaps make those panels, specifically, only breakable by the skyhammer? Yay teamwork!). Everyone can still get their kicks knocking people off the sides of the map and in between nodes — and I really like that aspect of this map, super dynamic — but having too many ways to instagib someone is really frustrating. I think this is the most important change the map needs to be competitive.

I will say, my team scrimmed against AL on this map last night with our normal comps (engi/2ele/guard/ranger) v (mesmer/2ele/guard/ranger) and it was VERY fun. Not playing against cheese builds allowed me to enjoy the map without the constant fear and anxiety of being pulled on to a glass plate. And even without the cheese, our guardian knockbacked someone off the edge of the map; it was the most legendary knockback I’d ever seen.

Skyhammer is close; make the right fixes, Anet!

Haven’t played much, but for me it was a bit boring:

all I needed to do was keeping under pressure the cannon, to:

A- capture it
B- prevent the enemy from firing (hopefully keeping two enemies engaged at once)

If I can bring them to keep 2 people on the cannon all the time without firing much, we win.

Pretty boring.

You will never be able to know what an engineer is going to do next…

because he doesn’t know it himself

the impression i get from the sPvP community is that they’re like a fighting game fan that doesn’t want to learn a new game. 2 days of tournament and they think they know the meta, and are completely sure that this meta will stay like that until ANet releases a balance patch or removes the map.

Got me thinking though, speaking of jumping puzzles of just jumping and no puzzle, its kinda like Quake with no grappling hook, runes, flags. If you look at quake, they added grappling hook because deathmatch was too stale, then they added runes like strength, resistance, haste, and regen, then they added capture the flag, then it changed to weird runes like tornado, death traps, ice traps, shambler, shielding, etc. Guess out of all the modes that prevailed…. Runequake did with all its weird runes because people obviously found fun to be better than the competitive capture the flag and etc (my favorite mode was ctf and 3wave, however I did play runequake a lot but it wasn’t my favorite). Hardly anybody played straight deathmatch in quake people loved playing with runes and all these weird ways you can die instead. I’m not saying GW2 should be exactly like quake all I’m saying is its nice to have fun rather than have angry competitive face all the time. Skyhammer provides that fun and excitement, always gives me laughs when I see someone die in a weird way, especially when someone tries to fight the fears but goes through 3 fears and finally goes off cliff.

if any of the existing maps can be a e-sport choice~it would be:

1. Skyhammer
2. Temple of the Silent Storm

the strategies on all the rest are simply too linear to make matches fun to watch

Those other maps all it requires is skill, theres not too much smarts to it. Sure you gotta play the nodes right just like you do in skyhammer but I’m talking about outplaying your opponent in a fight.

Also theres more hype to skyhammer, more laughter as well, the other maps are just too serious, there’s no hat tricks like you see in skyhammer.

Actually if you were playing this map correctly 4 engies 1 gerd all playing bunker w/ as many push/pulls as you can, there is nothing you can do the engies/gerds all have access to one shots while still being completely bunkers. It is a large problem.

When people talk about the “upper echelons” of players rejecting it, this is most likely the reason. It does not in fact re-enforce a less bunkery play, it demands more and alienates a large portion of the classes (3 are bad 2 are okay last 3 are too good). When you also introduce a map that is so drastically different from the others in play style balancing becomes even worse and much harder to achieve, so now instead of just balancing classes based on kill potential <—> Survivability they have to balance both application of stability and knockbacks+pulls+CCs+Immobs for each class (just because this map exists). At this point balancing those things between classes would require a drastic change in almost every profession and therefor not be worth it.

Personally I am not saying that the map is horrible and should be deleted, it is a great map FOR FUN. Which means it should never be in the tournament rotation.

For fun means hotjoins where it doesn’t impact anything and you can just do whatever. Tournaments are very fun, however the fun that is derived from it is due to competition and not playing in one of those bouncing castles where whatever happens its all good. People similar to myself who enjoy fighting against a skilled opponent and not glass floors or a gigantic un-dodgable weapon are less than impressed by what is offers in terms of competitive fun. This map is not like Temple where it can be saved and altered to a playable competitive state quickly, it needs a large rework and should be kept out of the rotation until that happens.

Current meta allows for a wide range of options, it just fits under the same paradigm of roles. Yes, every team will have that bunker (and skyhammer didnt change that). Atleast in our current meta your team fight can consist of different combinations of elementalists, necromancers, engineers, thieves, and mesmers (even warrior/ranger depending on build and strategy) and your home point defender can be speced all sorts of different ways (1v1, bunker, hybrid) and thus allows for different class choice (mesmer, ranger, engineer).

Compare that to Skyhammer, which already mentioned in this thread allows for the compensation of player skill with cheesy mechanics. This locks you into playing either a class with constant stability or constant control, where maximizing the quantity of control skills takes precedent over anything else. The issue with this map is the instant kills which promotes taking only cc classes as they are far far more powerful then actually damaging and killing your opponent. Until other classes get equal cc as the guardian/necromancer/engineer this map will be unbalanced, and in adding ccs to other classes you ruin the overall balance of the game.

I d like Skyhammer back too. In fact i d like to see all the maps in tPvP.

BUT there are a few things that have to change before these maps become viable.

Maining a necro since launch i got quite fed up of using my Fears, S grasp, golem and S walk to instantly kill 2 or sometimes 3 people at the cannon and survive the falls, all the while using soldier gear simply because doing damage was pretty much useless in this map unless u were fighting at point B.

Its one thing to use CC at the right time to interrupt key abilities and another to use it in abundance to push people to their doom.

YES! Watching the other maps is just BORING.

“Oh look, someone is trying to cap far node…” is about the most exciting thing that can happen on those other maps.
