I just don't even know who I am targeting anymore.
I think its a big problem. You can have up to 50 entities in a 5 v 5 match with all the different pets/turrets/etc. It’s just silly
I am so glad I’m not the only one who sees this as a huge problem. It becomes so chaotic in sPvP matches at times, with the sheer amount of pets and AoEs being thrown about. Sometimes it’s not even possible to click a necro in a sea of pets, let alone bothering to tab target through all that. The annoying thing is when Ranger’s name their pets their own name, clever but ultimately a pain.
Its a HUGE problem. The only classes with pets should be hunter, necro, and mesmer illusion. and they should be allowed only ONE pet max. ONE turret max.
It absolutely destroys the fun of PvP when there is utter confusion on ur screen and there is no tab target key for “target player enemy”
Designers if you are reading this PLEASE do not be stubborn/arrogant with your design decisions and continue to tailor the PVP. I want to enjoy the sPVP so much, but right now it needs so much polish.
On top of what’s been already said about it being a giant mess, it really makes the PvP a lot more about PvAI or PvRNG than anything.
The game was heralded as a huge departure from what was dubbed “Player versus Gear” in other games, but its ended up being “Player versus CPU” more than anything.
With the exception of Mesmer clones, there should be an option to show only hostile player’s name tags, with pet names showing only on mouseover or so. This would reduce the chaos a bit.
It is nice to know that this isnt just a problem for me. Perhaps this is something that could be looked at by Anet.
Just reduce the amount of pets and other..
I went up against a team of 4 Mesmers and 1 Ranger. That is 3×4 = 12 Clones + 3 mesmers = 15 ridiculous things to kill on the screen. It was so bad, it wasn’t worth mentioning the Ranger and his 1 pet into the equation. Honestly I feel sPvP is broken in a lot of ways, but I’m sure Anet will get around to fixing those issues.

Very often it feels more like “Pet/Illusion Wars”
Does the ranger’s pet pull aggro as well?Meaning it changes your target to it’s pet.Is this a class ability or is it broken?Even if it is a class ability it’d make sense in pve but is ridiculous in pvp.I thought tanks were out of the game yet the ranger’s pet can taunt?
So basically if you managed to target that ranger into the graphical chaos you find yourself hitting something else after a few seconds.Becomes tiring after a while.
This is another L2p issue
Its a mess.
In pvp everything has to be clear and precise and its not at all instead vague and messy and chaotic.
Problem is the more i play the most obvious it becomes that the game was designed with mostly pve in mind.
I only miss one feature:
Showing the selected target on the map. If you could see a dot for your selected target on the map teamfights would be way less chaotic (and it would help out of combat as well^^)

It certainly seems that way, which is really amazing given how much this was hyped by the PvP community as being designed almost entirely for PvP.
Agreed with one of the posters above… you need to learn to play.
Someone said 15 “ridiculous” things to kill.
Firstly, memser clones. They do crap damage, and have crap health. Any class who’s traited for burst can kill it in 1-3 hits.
Secondly, Necro Pets. Half the time they don’t attack, and easily get killed by AoE. A minion traited necro without the minions is almost useless.
Thief Elite – Yeah, I don’t like this either, but seeing as how it says “thief” above their head, it’s easy to spot who the real thief is.

The issue isn’t about how easy or difficult it is to defeat players using these builds.
The issue is how the clutter up the battlefield, make it chaotic, make tab targeting worthless and click targeting hit or miss, cause so much of what’s going on in a PvP match to be dependent on AI, etc. etc. etc.
That is why you should use call target function, by pressing ctrl+T. Then just press T, and voila, you are on the target you previously marked. All PvP teams are using this, as it is the easiest way to focus on someone, and burst hell out of him, without the need of mouse clicking all over your screen. Unfortunately, when stealthed, mark is removed, but you can place it again, once your target gets out of stealth mode, or, you could just change your target to next defenseless guy, and so on. That’s how it works in tPvP. On the other hand, most people don’t even know about this function, so there should be some kind of tutorial implemented, which covers this thing, as it is crucial in team fights.
- A hotkey to select enemy that is in front of you, not just nearest, but the one you’re actually looking at
This one, god, this one. There’s currently a way to bind a key to lock onto your current auto target, but for whatever ungodly reason, you have to HOLD IT DOWN the entire time, and when you let go, it will always remove your target.
Why can’t we just have a bind to lock the current target? Press it once. Target locked. That’s all I want. As soon as I have that necro or ranger’s healthbar on my screen, I tap the key and I’m done with it.
No, instead I have to manually click on him past his sea of pets, minions, and rock dogs or hold down a key for the entire duration of the fight. Don’t forget that with no way to adjust the particle effects, clicking is hard enough as it is.

I know about and use this function, but it only helps to some small degree. You’ve already pointed out the problem with stealth. There is also the fact that in a giant 15v15 or 20v18 or 25v25 (which was originally a 5v5), it can be – not just difficult as a matter of skill, but – impossible to target a given player without a few seconds delay with all of the mess going on around him, and those few seconds make all the difference in the world. It’s also a huge problem for your team to assist on him, because the melee players are stuck wading through all of the NPCs to get to your target, and ranged players are constantly having their projectiles blocked by them.
That said, the issue is once again not whether its easy or hard to deal with these situations, but that it just looks stupid, looks chaotic, and involves a bunch of AIs factoring into what is supposed to be about the guys behind the keyboards.
