I just don't get it...
Basically,
Your rating is determined by the quality of your wins, and not the quantity. Lose against bad teams, and you drop heavily. Win against good teams, and your rating is increased a lot.

So, with it being a random match making system (for me solo queueing) I just have no hope?
Really, I just wonder how these folks who played maybe the first week the system was integrated and never since have moved up in ranking.
Solo queueing is currently unfair to leaderboard, so yeah…
That being said, the devs have plans to separate solo queue from premades in the future.
What I noticed is that its not totally you beat better players you rank up.
What I noticed is when your in % , 1 win is 5% more, 1 loss is 5% less, doesn’t matter how great of the other team you beat.
What I noticed is at 90% your next win gets you on the leaderboard.
What I noticed is 600-1000 if you win a game you’ll go up around 100 points no matter if you play against group of people lower rank than you. And vice versa if you lose.
What I noticed is at 400-600 you gain around 70 ranks if you win.
Never been ranked under rank 300 so I have no idea how many ranks you get if you win.
What I noticed is the matchmaking system makes you play with people around your rank and if theres only 1 other team playing at the time around your rank you’ll keep facing them (ive faced same team 3 times in a row a couple times).
What I’ve noticed is the person que’ing up for tournament his rank is the one where the tournament will decide whether what rank team you fight (I was rank 90% with a bunch of other people 800 and leader at 400, we faced a complete 300-400 team a lot of times).
Lastly, I don’t notice the higher ranked people you beat will get you higher faster, all I notice is the wins and lose because it seems higher rank doesn’t mean anything, ill go up 100 more ranks at 900 no matter who I face every single time.
—edit: I think theres some people on leaderboard that never played since it came out.
Oh and I notice that if you get to a spot on leaderboard and don’t play you’ll remain in that area so in theory if you get to rank 1 and never play you’ll be around rank 1 forever it seems.

What I noticed is the ranking system isn’t like starcraft type ladder.
Because my team goes against some complete newbs every now and then, and I’ll still go up 70 ranks in leaderboards.
In starcraft if a 1500 player beat a 880 player, he’d only get 1 or 2 more points.
Yeah the leaderboard is quite lame at the moment. Not even close to a true indication of peoples ‘real’ ranking in my opinion.
Its also so easy to manipulate your own win % to make yourself look good on the leaderboard with a nice big win ratio. Not sure if anet has addressed it properly, but if someone leaves before game is finished it won’t count their lost and thus wont update it on the leaderboard. I think anet said it will still count as a lost to your mmr, but for statistics sake on the leaderboard it does not count. All you see is the wins go up, and the losts remaining the same so your win % looks nicer then it really should be if your playing fairly.
Thus you can have someone with 100 wins 0 losts and probably be rank 5%. All you need to do is just leave before the game is finished, every time. I’ve seen people do this when they know they are going to lose anyway.
So whats the points having wins, losts and win % on the leaderboard when it can be so easily manipulated to make oneself look better then they actually are? It rules these three columns totally irrelevant, and all we are really left with is the ranking column.
