I know why thieves/mesmers exist
I don’t know if this is a troll post or serious, but i’ll bite… You’re a ranger, try playing something else than pewpew lb and you will see that it was not thief and mesmer that was cheating and hacking but you sucked bad for playing that obnoxious one-trick pony build.

and going invisible or spamming your enemy isn’t a one-trick pony? both those classes do this, every time, without a doubt. fighting every thief is the same, fighting every mesmer is the same.
but you’re talking about a single weapon on my class.. i’m talking about those 2 classes, as a whole. Their total existence and what their purpose in the game is. Shortbow, sword, torch, greatsword mind you.

If you can’t beat them, join them.
In ArenaNets bold attempt at appeasing as broad a range audience as they could, they invented the thief and mesmers classes for players who enjoy installing hacks and cheats in their game. Now these players no longer need to search out cheats and hacks for their game to satisfy their cheap craving, which also makes moderating the game that much easier for Anet. Way to cut out the middle man, nice job!
these 2 classes both include the tools necessary to cheat, troll, and fleece their way to victory, every time.
I’m with you man!
Mesmers should be at hospital because of multiple personality disorder and thief’s place is prison!
Viva la France!
If you can’t beat them, join them.
But if he joins them, he won’t be able to beat anything. Haha
I mean seriously I don’t have any problems beating these 2 classes.
Thief and Mesmer are hard classes to master. Need to be at a high level to be effective.
You are the useless log of flesh we have to drag behind us as we move forward.

If you have trouble fighting them with those weapons, then try to fight mock duels with friends on those classes because you SHOULD be able to win against them if played well.

I do win against these classes pretty often.
thank you for the link, i saw this a while ago. it’s a good video

Cheat? Obviously not. Troll? Well, PU Condimesmers and most Thieves can do this. Fleece? If you can’t do that yourself despite playing a Ranger urself, you should try to get better at playing your class of choice.
Special abilities of the thief include;
vanishing without a trace whenever and wherever you want.
You might need a target, but Hunter’s Shot still let’s you vanish quite frequently, especially with AI near.
teleporting long distances across the map, escaping any face off ever
knifing enemies while invisible.
You might not be able to teleport, but you can easily escape using your Greatsword/Sword. Of course this would need you to learn how to play your Ranger properly.
one hit kills
cough Longbow against Squishys cough.
super fast attack speeds and movement, while other players have obvious tells & slow movement. ++ if you’re an asura.
finishing your enemies while completely invisible, rendering all 4 of their downed abilities useless.
Again, Hunter’s Shot. You should really learn more about your Class before attacking Thieves/Mesmers that way Hunter’s shot has a rather short Cooldown – it’s essentially the initiative-less ranged version of Cloak and Dagger, and just as useful for finishing foes.
troll your enemies with your special “woosh woosh, stab stab” sound.
not sure what to say to that…
Special abilities of mesmer;
your own personal zerg!
Can’t really take that seriously. Sounds like a sentence we all heared very often when the game was still new (and filled with new players with barely any combat experience). Why don’t you play Mesmer yourself for once, and see if your “personal Zerg” keeps up with 3 people. Or even one
troll your enemies with an absurd amount of visual effects, effectively “blinding” the player from their own interface.
Not bothering with the fact that your UI is always rendered on top of the Gamescene itself you shouldn’t be blinded. But if you manage to get distracted by some visual effects, your problem is far greater anyway – try to concentrate on the important elements (enemy position, enemy health, casting animations) rather than letting SFX’s take your attention away from it
teleporting across the map at any time
Across the map? The Maximum Teleport Range would be 6000 units (via “Portal”, or 5000 units in PvE/WvW for whatever reason), which needs to be setup first, has a 90s Cooldown (after the exit disappeared), and needs about 2 seconds to be usable after the exit was put down. Other than that you’re left with a 30s Teleport on 900 Range (although traitable), which doesn’t really count as “across the map” either (and pretty much not “at any time”).
going invisible during fights at a whim. teleporting up to areas your foes cannot reach
annoying “whirrr whirrr, whirrr whirrr” sounds included!
A Standard Shattermesmer equipped with Decoy and Mass Invisibility (let’s just assume his Decoy would have a 30s Cooldown to make it easier) would have a maximum Stealth uptime of 16%. Your Longbow ranger with untraited Longbow could get a maximum of 25% by shooting Hunter’s shoot at the Mesmer’s Clones (easily doable since Clones do not attemt to strafe/dodge it) or even up to 31% stealth uptime when traited. Even if you miss a few shots or stay a bit too long in your other weaponset, your stealth uptime would still be higher.
The teleporting issue is debateable – some like it, some hate it, so i won’t comment on that. Regarding the “whirr whirr whirr whirr” sounds: The Greatsword once had a better Sound effect, but a-net one day broke it with a patch (they like to do that with Mesmers). After much asking around from Mesmers when this was finally going to be fixed, a dev even answered that they were going to do it. Of course (like like to do that with Mesmers) it hasn’t been touched ever since then. Although i’am not sure why you would write such a point into you list (unless you were running out of ideas)
cheap is still cheap
cough (2|0|6|6|0) Longbow Duelist setup cough

You probably have kittenty MMR but I dare you to make thief or god forbid, a mesmer, and try playing for few hours xD See how easy all this magical stealth you guys keep talking about really is. Or how easy it is to port to large distances and woosh woosh cling cling the enemy. I double guarantee it that you’ll be dead in the water after the first cling if you fight something other than semi-braindead opponent.
Not sure if troll or just pure QQ
I realize it dosent mean much for skill but what rank are you? Because if your anything below 80 at the current point you are lacking in experience of PvP to have a proper opinion or understanding of balance.
Special abilities of mesmer;
your own personal zerg!

“Your own personal Zerg – blinding players from their interface” is a very newbie orientated, no decent player gets confused by clones unless you have auto attack on. And if you do in PvP most players would consider you objectively bad.
“Teleporting across the map at any time” you mean on a 90 sec c/d that is only really worth taking as a team based utility?
“Going in visable during fights on a whim” mes has less stealth than a thief, most builds have 2 one on a 30 sec c/d the other on 90 and has a long counter able cast time. Some have 3 or 4 but usually at the cost of applying pressure and they to have long c/ds (90 sec c/d for 2 seconds lol)
teleporting to where foes cannot reach you" balance isn’t built on a flat. Z axis is what keeps it fair against tanky/sustain builds. Also eles necros can do the same, and guards can chase.
Plus mes isn’t even meta lol
I will do theif later I’m at work and have limited time. Although I do agree it pushes some builds out due to design and certain things could have more counter play, you sound like a ranger who relies on your pew pew gets out played and thinks it’s unfair when your advantages and builds can take on mes and thief just fine regardless of build. If you get outplayed by being super obvious or have a lack game sense it’s a personal problem.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
In fact mesmer does not exist. It is as its class specificity: an illusion.
It has been anihilated by thief 2 years ago.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_Condition_Survival
This build is very easy to play and solves all your problems. The person who can´t beat thief or mesmers with it is just…
…a very new beginner. One thing to add, only because every noob cant dodge or LOS powerranger damage it doesn´t mean powerranger is the best ranger. It is only the most popular and easiest build in the whole game.
btw.: Thief is much harder to play than Ranger ( I main Ranger)
Dear OP as a ranger if you’re losing to either of those classes you are complaining about. PLEEZ UNINSTALL AND NEVER PLAY THIS GAME AGAIN
I know why Rangers exist: So that players like OP can do alright without learning how to play.

Yes.
The rest, No.
I’m a bit confused.
Did the crying meta change when I wasn’t looking? Was there a forum kittening patch I missed? Are people super-kitten over the teleport fixes, and how they prove that z-axis teleports were intended design?
My only working theory is that a bunch of kids are just coming off of being grounded for something they did during spring break, getting their computer privileges back, and rushing to various forums (this one included) to spew a few weeks worth of pent up bile. I readily admit however that this is more of a “gut feeling” than something I can prove. Anyone else have any theories?

save yourself the money and don’t bother.

Just throwing my 2 cents in the jar. A high skill cap doesn’t prevent something from being cheesy. Thief and Mesmer have builds that, if they choose, never have to die regardless of circumstance~ if you’re good. I don’t really care how viable those builds are on point, that shouldn’t even be possible. Flawed design.
Fast forward to viable stuff. Thief (and at times mesmer) have been the central piece to teams for a long time and these thieves get an almighty ego. It’s not that they are god players. It’s just that they classes have the highest potential. Thieves have the tools to be able to learn to avoid just about any normal risk associated with the class.
Long story shot, these classes are very potent and can even easily be considered cheese (and definitely DO have the most cheesiest builds possible to make in the game), but skill cap being high on a build or class doesn’t give it the right to be able to accomplish whatever it wants (essentially).

Just play them, fight other rangers then create a thread stating rangers are OP. I am waiting for that thread there is no fun in this one.
The Dhuumfire thread
I just finished my first ever spvp match of unranked using a lvl 1 thief i made. here’s the result. i didn’t even read all the tooltips for the skills, or even did my amulet/traits. simply used my lvl 2 reward dagger and bought a shortbow from the mists vendor.

sorry for no video, i couldnt figure out which skill gave me stealth so i was pretty much just running around stabbing enemies in the back with my dagger, and using the elite which turns them to stone. group fights i was spamming the explosive shot which honestly felt miles better than ranger aoe.

That picture tells very little, to say the least.
It would have been nice if the picture showed the opposing team, and who won (500 score). Otherwise that picture just says that at some point in time you had 8 kills and was 2nd best on the team.
But yeah, good job.

Well, first of if you play LB ranger you have more stealth than mesmer, not in quantity of skills but compare the cooldowns on the two skills mesmer runs for stealth and your LB.
1. A.Thief needs to have escaping mechanis, it has nothing like Signet of Stone or Distortion, so thief uses mobility and stealth.
1.B. As said above, mesmer don’t have THAT much stealth.
2.A. Yes, thief needs mobility. They don’t have crazy 2K range they can just camp, they have no invulnerabilities.
2.B Mesmer doesn’t have that much mobility, without staff they only have blink. If you consider portal on a very high cooldown an amazing always escape ability, then please try to do it and record it.
3. Yes, stealth burs is a problem but can be predicted.
4. Lol, super fast attack? Are you telling me rangers don’t have super fast attacks? Come on.
5. Every class can completely negate down skills (except ele down skills).
6. That’s probably just your personal issue.
7. Try to play mesmer, you’ll see how annoying the movement of clones is, how easily they die, how you keep facepalming seeing your illusions being completely kittened when you’re trying to shatter, especially diversion.
8. You mind the visual effects of thieves (very little) and mesmers (medium) but you don’t mind eles (a lot) and engis (horrible amount)?
9. Go teleport across the map at any time and record it for me.
10. L2p?
This is pretty much just a troll but in case some people would find this thread being true…
No, mesmer nor thief is not my main.
I only recently started paying attention to pvp forums. This is getting funnier day by day. I hope this keeps up and ill have entertainment between doing work for hmm…the next couple years probably
