Every single match I walk into I see nothing but new players running around without a clue. ArenaNet does NOTHING to fix this problem and just lets the issue get worse and worse.

I must have lost 8 matches due to players who don’t know how to play. Last match I was running treb and literally had 2 teammates standing next to me at the treb.

I am completely frustrated at the state of the game.

I really liked this game. I really wanted to love it, but ArenaNet has decided to do nothing about it.

I’m done. You guys don’t want to fix your game, so I’m not playing it anymore.

There are some problems with balance, but its the state of the players more than the state of the game itself. Even some of the “top” players are just copying and pasting as it is. There aren’t very many people who think for themselves and use their own builds successfully.

Every match I’ve played today has been outmanned with the higher numbered team having full rank 30+ players an the outmanned team being mostly below 10. I don’t know what sort of matchup system is being used here, but it’s awful.

It’s not even about ranks but builds. Almost every match i had today was 1 warrior 2 thieves 2 necros ( me) against 3 warriors 1 guardian 1 thief ( opponent).

You can’t do anything , any mistake makes you lose, stability helps failure ,etc…
There are many players that do not know how to play, but these kind of builds aren’t helping anything to learn better, whether it’s for the user or for the opponent

This might be worse, you may get communication sure. But Team Arena it seems like its more geared towards a dedicated group of pvpers.

The worst part of all, your rating is tied to your wins and losses. But how is it your fault if you played well but everyone else did not? It would make sense for a static team to have a group lose and win ratio. But solo needs something better, like overall stats.

While team q in theory seems like a good alternative, I would make sure you have an actual team to play with or you’ll end up in the same position as solo q. At least that what happened to me with a team all under r10 against a group of coordinated players.

I’m experimenting with ways to compensate for this as far as MMR and matchmaking is concerned, but I wouldn’t expect this to change for rewards or ladders.

If it wouldn’t take you that long to implement, why can’t you just include it in one of the bi-weekly PvE patches? It would improve SoloQ considerably with that change alone.

I just went into sPvP for the first time and even I tend to agree a bit. The rest of the team and opposition appeared more experienced than I based on armor (if you’ve got a full set of gear you’ve probably acquired a bit of glory and boxes), with that in mind there wasn’t any reason I should have gotten first place given my complete lack of experience and exposure (ie until I saw the mini map with it’s a b c I didn’t even realise pvp in this game was capture points).

So I can see how go solo queue but being permanently attached to the mishaps of other players is not a particularly great system. Solo queue ranking should be based entirely on how the individual performs.

Let us buy vendor mats (eg spools of thread) in 250 stacks, end the excessive clicking.

It is already a priority and is likely to be done as part of the back-end server restructure.

If it wouldn’t take you that long to implement, why can’t you just include it in one of the bi-weekly PvE patches? It would improve SoloQ considerably with that change alone.

It would not be a simple change for the existing systems unfortunately. We also can’t just slip things in to random updates like that for many good reasons which I agree with but can’t get into on the forums.

I’m in the middle of writing an outline for the matchmaking blog, hopefully that will go out soon so you guys can at least see what proposals we have planned. We’ll also start a discussion around the proposal. I’m sure that together we can come up with something awesome and practical.

Nothing I can do in a 4v5 unless the other team is completely brain dead. Due to the nature of capture point types…winning crippled is almost impossible. I’d rather have the /resign option from gw1. So I can at least lose with dignity.

Like someone mentioned above me, I think spvp could use a ready button when you get a pvp pop. So there is no excuse while you are afk in the match. If they don’t click ready in time, the spot should be given to the next person in queue.

Justin i know ranks doesn’t signify if players are good or not, but would at least cut down greatly on the number of people that have no idea what they are doing. Something like being rank 20 to get inside?

Since solo queue pops take so long, I’ve been pugging team arena for the past couple of days. I consistently find myself in matches with guild groups of four r1 players on my team. I am sure the newbies try their best, but they just have no clue how to play their class, let alone in a tournament environment. Of course, these total blowout matches wouldn’t happen if you introduced a rank requirement for competitive pvp…

I wouldn’t advise anyone to pug team arena unless you have at least two buddies to queue with so you are able to carry two newbies. I’ve lost 95% of my team queue matches and the only reason I still queue up is for giggles. I hope you are doing something to address the blatant team stacking that that often occurs in hotjoin, it really is sad how many innocent noobies get forced onto the same team only to get steamrolled.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to find one to join for months and no one ever mails me back/pms me back/or replies to my posts. If someone knows of an active one please pm me.

Another question, I believe we’ve been told to report those people who purposely leave matchs, as in “I hate skyhammer goodbye ya’ll”. What option should we choose when reported them. I had two people in the past two hours do this and I didn’t think any of the options given matched what they were doing.

I just had a good idea that you could look into. What if at the area where you que for team and solo arenas there is another tap called teams looking for members or something like that. In ehre players can list what they’re looking for in their team. I like the new LFG system, but no one ever uses that for some reason. So you could do that or maybe put a link under the que button that automatically opens up the LFG for spvp or something.

They proabably both had maxed treb masteries and were waiting to take over since you did not even use cows. In their eyes you were the clueless one.

The game just isn’t social.
If fighting was more team based, meaning the map/weapon attacks/utilities/traits were more built around working with allies… more people would be grouping up, more people would be sticking around since they could get an advantage through teamwork, they could play the game with friends not next to them…

But nothing… Anet has does nothing towards that end at all…
‘increasing exposure’ about an ill done part of the game wont make it any better.

the way professions were designed makes combat for the sake of combat pretty terrible. until a strong reinvestment is made to revamp professions, nothing is going to change. I’m not talking about shuffling around trait numbers again for the next year, or adding in a few more skills and weapons on a limited number of long cool down buttons either. I’m talking about hiring more people, like they did for living story development, and get back to the drawing board. unfortunately though, I highly doubt they would ever do such a thing because the bare minimum has been done so far and their attitude seems to be that things are good enough for them.

Welcome to what the smart people realized 3 months into the game.

The people you see now are prob pvers giving spvp a shot before quitting the game.

Once wildstar comes out it’ll canabalize the gw2 pvers and since the company ncsoft owns both games..anet won’t do anything to stop it.

The PvP\pve in wildstar will be a rip off of gw2 and even more imbalanced. The thief class can create clones..I kid you not..lol. Best way to balance two broken classes in a game? Combine them into an even more broken one in a new game..

ESO might be your best bet but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The lack of man and willpower to address gw2 non pve problems is NOT the concern of the customer.

Gw2 was a great learning experience for me..avoid any anet or ncsoft products if you are looking for a fun and good PvP experience.

anet is actually unblocking people who have a history of buying with real cash from the gem store. That is how desperate they are Now.

This was debated to death in alpha / beta, and Anet went with their vision of everyone being a self-sustaining tank mage who can heal. This results in the gameplay we have now, where group support is very limited, and pure support builds don’t really have a place in sPvP. You could argue that pure support is more viable in WvW, but I don’t really play it so I won’t comment further.

Anet will never add the Monk now, since it has no place in the way the game’s core mechanics are set up. It’s every guy and gal for himself/herself. Professions don’t really need each other like they do in games where there’s a trinity.

I don’t know if the old threads exist anymore in some desolated corner of the interwebs, but volumes were written on how GW2 would become a very dumbed-down version of GW1 due to Anet’s core desing decisions. There’s plenty of wall of texts to necro if someone is interested in archeology of the slit wrists variety.

Today, again, i was paired with four rank 10’s and that experience is repeated a lot.
Looking forward to the blog post, and its also good to know that the match making system is on anet’s list of priorities.
Also it would be great if you could look into a way to make a support role viable in pvp, it isn’t a major concern or anything but it would be nice to see some builds emerging that are a bit “quirky” but also have a place in a team.

i feel you Thedenofsin,imo its the game mode it doesnt fit a lfg tool pug style.
one player cant really make any big impact on the outcome of the game if you have 4 ppl playing like a braindead zombie.
ctf,2v2/3v3 arena,ect one player can carry a team but in conquest you need all player to succeed and thats also why 4v5 rarely can win(needs the 5 player team to be really really bad and 4 player team to be really really good to win).
even if you play a key role in the team your impact isnt very big on the end result,tho if i bunker and get 2/3 on me the all match that cant kill me i free up my team to cap the off points,or if i treb(like you did) on my mesmer and 2v1 or istanewkit it with portal or camp the hemmer ect i feel i can somewhat shift the odds in my favor but in the end its down to the 4 player with me i give the odds to…if they do nothing with them…
you get my point.

and Justin the groups of player in team arena are mostly not pugs and a nonpug group will most likely faceroll a pug group just fyi,anyone that map chat rankX top X lfg knows it.
so to sand him to get even more frustrated doesnt look like a smart move,but if you meant for him the start/join a team of dedicated players that’s a different story.

I’ve seen both low lvls and leavers/afk’ers in the soloq a lot. I am by no means a good pvp’er but it is sad to see 2-3 ppl on an uncontested point capping it.
Usually it’s a thing you see with low lvls, so I wonder, would it be possible to have a slightly improved tutorial? Based on the current tutorial there’s nothing in the tutorial to tell a player that multiple ppl capping 1 point might not be optimal or that fighting outside a point isn’t good (common sense should count but even that needs a bit of experience).

I think the guide should be in game though, as I doubt any casual trying out pvp would bother to search guide videos first.

So basically, could we get a tutorial that goes over the do’s and don’ts in pvp that ppl have to play before joining a match. It could be 5m tutorial, but if it would go over the important points, it would be a huge improvement.

Also when a team has a leaver, could we be allowed to just offer the spot to the next one in the q. Possibly with a warning to him/her that the match is already started. Allowing ppl in midgame would both shorten the q as well as helping to balance 4v5s.

Not sure what the solution to afk’ers should be though, apart from reporting them. The optimal would be to have them replaced during the match, but vote-kicking (requiring 4 to agree to kick) could be too easily abused to get rid of the least experienced player. Perhaps a timer if you spend 10 seconds in the spawn after the match is started, you get auto-kicked and replaced? (10 seconds is fast enough that the team won’t suffer too much while still plenty of time that someone actively playing would have moved out)

I would love an option that keeps the team together.
After a match you can click ready up for the next match, so if you like your team ready up. if you don’t leave.. the people who readied up will continue as a team.

I believe there are a few guilds that exist solely to allow you to find people to Team Arena with. I’ll mention it to Josh, maybe we can increase their exposure.

Stop ignoring what people asked for ages: entry barrier to solo/team arena.
There MUST be one.

If you ranked high in soloq: you have luck.
If you ranked low: you didn’t.

For example: I’m >rank 150 in teamq and 750 in soloq.
No luck.

I’m sorry you’ve gotten matches you don’t enjoy. We’re working on addressing the skill gap on multiple fronts.

In the mean time, have you tried Team Arena? You may find it more your speed.

I have not, sans a few matches a long time ago with some guildies.

Since the reset I feel as though I’ve had two good (i.e. well matched and competitive) solo matches overall: one we won by a small margin, the other we lost by about 15 points or so. Aside from that, it’s been either a blowout or a firm manhandling by one side or the other. Nearly all of those I can attribute to:

  • a mismatch in numbers
  • a mismatch in rank
  • a stacking of FOTM classes on one side (eg 3x warriors, 2x warrior + 2x necro, etc.)

It’s not fun, Justin. I want it to be, but it just isn’t. The mechanics are generally good and, sans a few builds, the classes are well balanced. However the entire matchmaking system is still horrible, and I’m referring to queuing, “match starting” and ranking collectively.

Perhaps the small player base has something to do with it. However, I don’t feel the small player base is somehow due to the fault of the players.

I know you guys are working on fixes. However, I don’t see those fixes showing up today, next week, or next month, and promises of how much better things will be 3 months from now won’t make me enjoy the game today.

I’m hungry now and would rather have eggs and milk than wait two hours for you to bake a bread, no matter how delicious you promise it will be.

You can blame your team all you want, but you’re a major part of that team, and if you sat there arguing about how you should take the treb with them you didn’t help any.

And if they truly didn’t know how to play, then help them figure it out. This again is on you. You make this community hostile and inaccessible, then new people won’t come to it, and you won’t have people to play with. You make them feel welcome, they’ll tend to stick around.

I’m just saying, if you’re gonna go around assigning responsibility to everyone, assign some to yourself as well. We all need to be taking responsibility for the shortcomings of GW2’s PvP, because the players are a major part of that too.

I hope this is another one of the issues that will be resolved…hopefully sooner than later.

I actually kinda wish there was a skill/toggle we could just activate for open world PvP…

Click the skill/button, channels for 5 seconds, then you are flagged or unflagged for open PvP….bam done.

i think arena net should implement other game modes like deathmatch just like random arena/team arena in GW1 i had so much fun during those gw1 pvp days, and GvG or Heroes Ascent that needs someone to run the flag to gain Team’s Morale Boost! and please enough for these Conquest Game mode! and another new maps but same old sh#t Conquest

That’s an extremely presumptuous statement, considering you know nothing of the games I have played, the situational context, what I did to support the team or what direction I provided.
