Guild Wars 2

I’ve been commentating SMITE for some time on Youtube, and have been playing GW2 since the beta previews. I’ve been mostly a PvE player, but plan on stepping up my PvP skills.

I normally play warrior with sword/shield and rifle, but also plan on using PvP alts for Thief, Engineer and Necromancer or Elementalist.

Since I’ll be doing a video series chronicling my journey from n00b to “pro”, all builds used will be credited.

There are many builds that are used in Spvp for Warriors. Most work and are completely viable. However the most common set up is Greatsword/Axe Shield Roamer build.

I typically don’t read on the fourms for builds, as I like to learn on the field and experiment for myself. So I am sure people will have a more “effecient” version of this build. Remember to practice your class match ups and learn your class with a team. Though this build works great for Solo hotjoins, Guild wars 2 is a team game and you need to learn to support your team with the damage this build brings. Especially if you hope to go “pro” and do tournaments. Roamers are great for assassinating key targets like their Treb user and killing players attempting to rejoin the fight.

I’ve created a Mace+Mace / Axe+Warhorn build that centers around surviving bursts, healing up quickly, then retaliating with consistent damage, withering down opponents. It provides great mobility, survivability, functional damage and awesome support capability. You will win a lot of 1v1’s also, just because this game is so burst focused. You can PM me if you want some details. I’d have to check the exact stat-allocation and amu/sigils/runes etc.

IMO it’s not a good idea to start with a build like the one posted above, no offense. But just running around trying to own people with the suberb damage warriors can actually dish out, is very difficult to master. You will be extremely squishy, and will die a lot more then you will be killing people. That’s not a fun way to start.

I wrote in the build guide, that it would be a rough settle in for new players. It does have low defense and requires timing with your cooldowns to survive. But I come from a old school mindset to practice without crutches and strive to be the best. That is not to say any build worse than another, Warriors make great Bunkers like your build.

However that being said, in a Tournament Meta at the moment, it’s easier to roll into a team with a Damage Warrior than a Bunker. Guardian or Elementalist would be better suited in general for Support or Bunker status. Sure every team is flexible and there is a ton of technology being developed in the way classes are built. But if he wishes to work his way to “pro”, he should start with what has proven to work well. Regardless of the “difficulty”

I do not agree with your opinion about ele’s or guardians being better bunkers, they just make for different ones. As such, I don’t classify my build to be a bunker in the full sense of the word, more of a well functioning hybrid. If I wanted a bunker I’d be using a shield.

And off course certain builds are better then others. Your build is well-crafted and easy to understand, it’s just too hard to begin with. You will die a lot, period. Even experienced burst-warrior users die often, it’s part of the build really. I’m from the same old-school mindset as you are, started out with burst also. Just trying to save TS some time.
That doesn’t mean I’m saying you shouldn’t go burst eventually. You should explore your entire character sooner or later (although this aspect should be explored later). Just get a feel for how your character works in PvP before you play a high-risk high-reward build.

Also, when starting out in PvP, you play a lot of pick-up games in which it can be nice to be able to survive a 2v1 situation and walk away. As a burst warrior you either have to be very skilled, very supported or very lucky (or a combination of these) to do so. You won’t soon encounter the first two of those in pick-up PvP.

Mace/mace axe/horn honestly lacks as a build. It may work when you have a squad, as in WvW, but in spvp, you’ll either be defending/taking a point.

You can’t defend with that setup as..well warriors can’t defend points. They have very little defence, no boon removal or much condition application. A warrior can just about win a 1v1 with a class (not against a good mesmer/thief/guardian/engineer) and get away. If they’re winning 2v1 something is incredibly wrong. it’s not possible, no matter how skilled you are.

That leaves point taker. You won’t be taking points from a guardian/engineer/mesmer/elementalist anytime soon. You just physically can’t do the damage to keep up with their healing/kiting before help arrives.

I run a surival/damage warrior in spvp. GS sword/shield. I trait the shield with reflect missiles and the GS with leg specialist. I can kite alot if i don’t want to stay and fight. GS 4 (with leg specialist is just amazing for peeling off chasers). If a fights going badly, I run.

There’s currently no place for a warrior in Tpvp though, he can’t hold points, or take points against bunker builds. If they do run a warrior it’s for the HB burst glass cannon build to finish opponents as quick as possible. But honestly a thief backstab build is stronger with more survival or even better use a shatter mesmer build who can do what you do every 60 seconds every 15 seconds and has more utility.

But have fun in spvp. It’s not that coordinated and you get alot of bads playing thieves and mesmers wnating to feel opd.

Sure, don’t ever put Bulls Charge and Frenzy on your skill bar. Simple rules on not being a bad Warrior.

A lot of people have had success with this, I suggest you give it a try.

Great Sword build is a good build, try that and practice your timing. Best burst in game.
