So I’m just gonna do my own little Q.Q thread here about the new stat (dis)balancing in pvp. Everybody being super zerks has really messed things up. Now the protection boon feels like it’s worth twice as much as it was before. People are bursting me with hammers. I sneeze and theives go down and I don’t even feel good about it. Things are messed up. People don’t bother stomping anymore. They just hit me and I die. I die before my downed heal skill comes off cooldown.

I’m a meditation guardian. I’m used to having 300 toughness. As a matter of fact my BUILD was BALANCED by the great creators around that assumption. An inherant part of my playstyle is the fact that I get heals, and heals don’t mean anything without some toughness to back them up.

Anet. PLEASE. Give us something here so we can balance our numbers out a little. I know your all frantically scrambling over your calculators already and that this is gona be a whole long balancing process. But right now, some little add on option to the amulets to swap out some of the stats would be AMAZING.

I think anet needs to bring back the trait line stat bonuses and f’n tone down the dmg scaling, right now the combat is feeling like a kmmorpg.

I’d rather they just give you six configurable armour pieces like in PvE and WvW.

It can still have the simple “all in one” functionality that is provided by the amulets system, but just implement an option for tweaking each of the six armour pieces for players that want that level of customization.

I think they might be a bit afraid that “min-maxing” will be too prevalent, but that’s entirely what competitive RPG-based combat systems are all about.

I think they also might be concerned that “bad” stat combos simply won’t get used anymore… but I think that’s more about the fact that they’re bad. Simply saying “well it’s either that or full zerk” isn’t really a friendly option.

I think we’ll just have to ride this out for awhile, they’re going to have their hands full with a ton of things. But I think that implementing some form of stat customization in PvP could alleviate a lot of these “the damage is too kitten high” problems.

At least your class has base armor, block, decent weapon utilities, and only one line required for heals without +healing power needed…

Im using a shout guardian and its very bunkery, my friend uses staff ele and he didnt die in 6 games. A guild mate of mine made a mace shield bunker warrior and it was really good too. He used a defense banner with shouts so maybe its just you guys.

The amulet system either needs an overhaul or they need to introduce a lot more amulet types to make up the loss of stats from traitlines.

In this patch, Anet created 2 new amulets: Crusader and Marauder, which were previously known as Valkyrie and Berserker. Then they made Valkyrie actually have Valkyrie stats and now Berserker is pure DPS stats. Bar Celestial, every other amulet other than the aforementioned are all extreme variations of each stat type and is currently causing tons of imbalance issues in PvP, main culprit being Berserker/Marauder/Condi amulets. I have no idea why Anet just stopped at Crusader and Marauder.

It’s because they know that if they made stat customization possible (i.e. being able to configure each piece of gear like in PvE/WvW), extreme stat combinations would be mostly overrun by hybrid stat combinations. Instead, they want you to make a deliberate choice from a set of stats and work around that, instead of every build blending into some grey variety of a berserker-magi-rabid-cleric-sentinel mix, or some such.

It also means newer players face less of a skill floor as far as min-maxing is concerned.

But I think the removal of attributes from trait lines now warrants this sort of functionality, even if it just means reinstating the old gem system with the amulets.

IDK about 6 pieces of gear with stats on each but we could definitely stand to have a jewel in the amulet or a ring with the stats instead of having them folded into the amulet as they are now.

They could have just kept the amulets the same (added new ones) and the rest of the stats could move to scaled down versions of another amulte/gem/ring w.e and you pick one of each, problem solved

My bad, I should have made myself more clear. I know the reason why they created the current amulet system. What I meant by them stopping at those two amulets was that Anet could have created several more amulets that have two major and two minor stats that we currently see in Crusader and Marauder to alleviate the loss of defensive stats from traits.

However, if Anet intends to continue down that route, then there will be too many amulet choices and will result in many unused amulets as players opt to choose optimal amulets.

Now that I think about it, another option that Anet could do is to remove the current triple stat combo amulets and instead change them to how Crusader and Marauder amulets are: two major and two minors. The quadruple stat combo would include both offensive and defensive stats. With the major stats being spread out to form lesser offensive/defensive stats, it would resultantly lower the damage output of players. This would also solve the problem with too many amulets being introduced.

I think its a deliberate decision to make builds more extreme. If you go DPS then you are all out dps. If you are a bunker then you are an all out bunker. If you want to be a bruiser, cool, but then your damage takes a significant hit.

Did you try the old knights amulet? Toughness, precision and power?

If you look at every profession’s base health and defense mechanics it isn’t really fair. Some professions are still squishier than others or hit harder with less effort even if both are full dps. And for some professions, bunker is not an option (thief and mesmer for instance), just as some classes don’t have viable condition options. Forcing people to choose between bunker and full dps is not a smart move in my opinion, it gets boring really fast and kills diversity.

Personally I think what we need is more viable builds for every profession, diversity and equality in base health or at least some tweaks. Here’s to hoping things will even out after HoT release, though I have faith Anet will get things in order eventually.

PS: I don’t think I’m going to bring thief to pvp again until something is done about the current situation. Hitting like a truck is not skillful play or fun, nor is it fun when someone sneezes in your direction and you drop dead.
