I only play for the AP
Gw2 is not pursuing esports. You are fooling yourself if you believe that.
dont understand this tread^^
seriously – you say wvw don´t get enough attentition and spvp too much?
even read patch notes?
arenanet devs don´t care for spvp while WvW get all the new shiny things
like big cool arena in obsidian sanctum or complete new map or the ruins or the WXP system or all the rewards (15min EOTM and i have full bags) and …….
dont wanna go more in detail but the whiny WVW people are annoying
they even whine bout rewards in there forum and get the most loot from all gamemodes – they even get 2 chests for free per wxp lvl all 20-30 mins
and balancing? the heck?
its gw2 wtf you talk bout balance?
You should try doing RP’ing in SPvP is more balanced and far more fun.

But sPvP in GW2 is just so generic, boring, and at times, frustrating that I cannot associate any memorable qualities with it. Any e-sports ambitions this game seems to have are absolutely misguided in my book because sPvP is the least attractive aspect of GW2 by a long shot.
Exactly. The last thing I’d ever do to recommend this game to a friend is bring up Spvp. This isn’t because I have special preferences towards WvW/PvE or any sense of factionalism, its because the fun factor in spvp seems to appeal only to a very niche crowd. Adding goodies and rewards to spvp doesn’t fix the underlying problems of the gamemode and certainly won’t sustain any short term numbers you manage to lure in.
wvw got entire new zone… pvp didn’t see new map since…..yeah…
new rewards were added in wvw as well including money, ascended etc….what did pvp see? 15 silver per win mk
if anything pvp needs more game modes, new maps and better rewards….i still think pvp is way more balanced than wvw atm
[Teef] guild :>
Given that sPvP got two new maps since release while WvW has pretty much languished since that time until EOTM, I just gotta laugh. The ruins was an attempt to throw WvW a bone and OS was thrown in at the last minute to satisfy the GvG crowd.
This isn’t to say PvP doesn’t need something. Just to say that it’s pretty kitten to bring up WvW when it finally gets a turn at having some attention. WvW has to compete with the monthly PvE living story too.

so do i. spvp for daily AP only.
Archeage = Farmville with PK
sPvP gets stale quick thats for sure.
The same build, the same maps, the same everything. This game has nothing, NOTHING to it that could ever make it an “esport”. The overall skill level seems low in this game too. I play LoL or Dota I get my kitten handed to me by everyone and get yelled at by bratty kids. Here I win most of my fights and do decent even though I consider myself a terrible player.

Wrong. PvP AND WvW are like forgotten step children. PvP received 3 new maps since launch and that’s about it. WvW received OS, eotm, and a rank system.
Compare either of those to the amount of PvE content. PvE is the love child.

Actually I’d say they are about even, PvE has only gotten an achievement system and fractals. Nothing else is new in PvE in terms of content, the rest is quality of life.
I play sPvP on a daily basis. I am actually quite good at it.
I mostly soloQ in teamQ so as to avoid Skyhammer and get better rewards, occasionally mixing in a few skrimishes to get the daily caps.
But I have to admit to myself that I do all this solely for the achievement points.
It’s not that I don’t enjoy PvP. I do actually, and have done in all MMOs I’ve ever played.
But sPvP in GW2 is just so generic, boring, and at times, frustrating that I cannot associate any memorable qualities with it. Any e-sports ambitions this game seems to have are absolutely misguided in my book because sPvP is the least attractive aspect of GW2 by a long shot.
5 years from now when people look back at the game, no one will remember it for the sPvP. Instead the dynamic events, the large scale PvE and the occasionally pretty epic WvW will dominate our impressions of the game.
sPvP on the other hand, the best thing about that is probably the lobby.
So what prompted me to write this? Well frankly I think much more attention should be given to balancing classes and gear in WvW than there currently is. ANet seems to be much more sensitive and conservative about changes in sPvP when this is the least attractive part of the game. It also has the smallest player-base and the least amount of content.
Why not apply the same amount of rigor to balancing WvW, i.e. content that a large number of players actually enjoy for hours each day, content that is unique to GW2 and probably the most memorable part of the game?
Why pursue some sort of misguided e-sports ambitions in a game who’s combat isn’t deep enough and who’s mechanics don’t have the properties to make the game enjoyable for an audience to watch.
GW2 mechanic’s simply don’t make it attractive for sPvP. Accept that and focus your attention on stuff that GW2 does reasonably well. And for the vast majoritythat is WvW.
I really dont get what this thread is even supposed to be about?…
In my observations the political climate has switched.
That is to say that PvP and the esports phenomena received considerable support at realease. New maps, regular updates etc. Concurrently WvW for the first year of its life had orbs REMOVED and received Break Out events, thats it -.-
Now the writing is on the wall as it were and things have gone quiet for PvP while WvW receives more attention.
I tend to do PvP for dailies I dont mind PvP but its never been a selling point for me and have days where doing PvP is something im happy to skip.
Zerging, roaming, GvG etc. I enjoy my time more in WvW.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

It’s better be, the devs balance with primarily sPvP in mind plus a bit of PvE.
For a year and half I barely touched PvP (I was rank 11 at the middle of December last year). This was mainly due the disconection between PvP and the rest of the game (no rewards, nerfed stats, no synergies with other game modes).
Since the last days of December and after the patch in that month things changed a lot: I did start to play dayly in PvP and achieved rank 30, and so did a lot of the members on my guild (which also mostly avoided this part of the game). There are some reasons for the changes: now PvP somewhat rewards your time with silver coins, not enough to be a competitive way of farm but enough to justify the time you spent in. Also, glory can be usefull to uplevel your lowies with little effort. You can also get a decent amount of extra AP (which doesn’t bother me at all, I’m almost at 9k even if PvE is the part I play the least).
But the real reason I now play PvP is due the fights; I only play team conquest (no hot join or solo) despite in 2/3 of my matches I don’t play with fellows of my guild: I play it due is fun (honestly, the combat system in Guild Wars 2 is excellent, by far the best one I tried in any MMO to date, and even better than most of action games -including Diablo-). I also want to rank up to get new finishers -I don’t like any buyable finisher in the game due they don’t stand for/mean nothing, I want finishers that reflects my efforts in PvP-.
I think that part of my recent love affaire with PvP is due the stagnation in WvW, which ends favouring the servers with most coverage, with tons of servers being afraid to battle GvG in open field, with their players tamed, afraid to battle outside huge blobs or the safety of their T3 walls. PvP, despite lacking in game modes and map variety, is filling my lust for blood, and is being a good place to hone my skills.
So id like to go back to the title of the thread ….
can we at least rotate different objectives here rather than 5 spvp wins? – this can take anywhere from 1 to 5 hours depending on luck which is very boring for a daily
how about pick up ferocity ? or pick up an orb ? kill 5 ( insert class here) in tpvp. kill the lord . Anything !
Dailies should be easy to do , not take away a substantial amount of my day

How about 1 win to soloque and 1 in teamque , instead ?
