I quit, something is very wrong!
Because everyone (bad/average/good players) are in same bracket atm. Wait couple days and good players will move to upper divisions and you will stop facing them.

The system is essentially designed to prove an initial guess of your placement correctly despite the fact the prediction is incredibly unlikely to be accurate. Solo que players are going to see a complete kitten show this season.
its a joke… its just a joke…
queue as div 0 solo player phoenix vs div 2, premade guilds and dragon players.
no I’m not afk, and I do rank well with in my team. Was in ruby last season. I have 0 pips but it feels like I’m playing in the top league or something.. well the other team is, not mine.

That logic is great on paper but, absolute trash in reality.
In “a few days” what will remain in division 1 is absolute crap and nothing else. Most people who will remain in that division will have no clue how to play a class, how to rotate and, most importantly, what to do and when. So, for a worker Joe who plays a couple hours per day, will be stuck in that division for a long time. To make things even worse, many people will simply give up in that division in “a few days”. That means, these players will face either extended queue times or ‘Hail Mary’ queues with other divisions with widened search spread. And that’s inevitable.
Hence, Amber will be new legend for season 2 unless ANET is forced to match these poor sods with higher division players “in a few days”.
Needless to say that “you will always be matched with equally skilled player ‘because’ they will be in your same divisional tier” is also another trash logic that looks good on paper.

You are playing top league. It is making the matches based on pips. Despite what so many say, there is a big difference in skill level between diamond/legendary and Amber.
To be honest I didn’t realize how well the MMR system was segregating the players until queuing earlier tonight. It’s now making matches based on pips, so everyone is together. I can really see the difference in opponent reaction time. Give it a day or two and it will settle down.

The last 7 matches I was with multiple players that couldn’t even get a single point, if we don’t win then I get no pips and am stuck with the scrubs. This is so kittened up.
Blackgate
Im kind of on the opposite side, so this is kind of wierd.
Currently 11-0
It seems people are either doing very well or very bad, you would think the randomness of everyone being in the same division would prevent this. I have no idea how this matchmaking is working
Yep, I just did 6 games for the 2 dailies. Went 5-1, one match we did 500-2 on a team. Very depressing, odd the game I lost which ended up like 300~ to 612 I didn’t lose a pip. All solo q’s, I think you just play very poorly or must be the folks that leave your teammates to bleed out instead of instant ressing him.
I’ve experienced the same lately within the last 4 days and heard the same. Either people are on a win streak or they are on an epic lose streak. I have not heard a single person claim 50/50 while running solo/duo. It’s quite suspicious actually. It would seem that the servers are either allowing you to win or making you lose.
I am not talking close matches here! I am talking consistent blowouts of 500-200 or sometimes lower. This has not only been happening in ranked but also unranked. It’s as if some player’s accounts are flagged to continuously lose or win matches due to favoritism or unfavor set within the server. I’m talking mediocre players happening to land strong teams every time they que and stronger older players landing kitten useless teams each and every time they que.
Let’s get serious here. There are only so many times that a person can toss a 6 sided die and roll a 1, ten in a row before you have to wonder if the die is loaded.
Either way, the MMR system is worse than its’ ever been and this is laid on top of the kittent*est meta that we’ve had yet. Why am I still playing this game? Maybe I should take some time to think it over.
tried 5 more game.. the same, though one was at least a little close. 30 loses. I’m getting to the point I could kill someone, if a door knocking sale guys come to my door right now….. man will they be picking the wrong door.
Anet just WHAT THE kitten HAVE YOU DONE!!!!!!?? am i on some black list? destine to fight legendary tiers even though i don’t have even 1 pip or tire to my name.
come on, I dare you, someone on your team look up my name and account and look at my amazing losing streak and tell how this is possible? just wth is going on?!
Relax silverstone, Anet wont fix a thing and you know it, only way to win is not to play (and yeah, im having the exact issue you are having). Take a break from this badly coded, horribly managed game, and you ll feel better.
Its not worth it when its just not fun.
This is what ppl have been asking for. A full reset after the season. And with the removal of mmr it really is a full reset leading to lobsided matches each and every game.
If youre below average like op you will lose a lot the first few days. But it will improve every week.
This is what i find most funny. People were screeching for an mmr reset last season and now they hate it. Just goes to show the customer rarely knows what he wants.

I wouldn’t say I’m below average. true I’m not super great either, I run with a 230 ping handicap, but tactics I would say I’m pretty good. I’m just always fighting the cream of the cream. or the rest of my team is always the cheese….
this is working as intended, if your MMR is average or low, expect to be steam rolled by groups (solo q players shoved into parties of 5 by the system) of higher MMR players.
i only played 3 games, all 3 loses.
expected since my MMR is low.

hi hi Locuz !
not really.
MMR is still there.
just that MMR is not used to find opponents anymore.
the system finds 5 solo q players within similar pip range and similar MMR and groups them together.
then pits them against another team of similar pip range. however, it does not take the other team’s MMR into consideration.
the other team could have higher, same or lower MMR players. but similar division and pips.
I thought I was starting off well. Went 8-0 and then took a quick bite for dinner. Came back and went 1-16. I now have a 15 match losing streak. I’ll prob wait a couple of days.. All of my losses were blow outs. None of them came came close within 50-150 points.

Could a dev please confirm this? It was stated that it won’t take the other team’s mmr into consideration, only the pip range, but it wasn’t stated whether team members will have similar mmrs.
I have to say, the nerfs to Mesmer were fully justified, carefully thought out and implemented in a manner worthy of a multimillion dollar company.
Further, anet has once again upheld it’s widely acknowledged reputation for fair and even handed treatment of all players, wether it be in-game or on forums.
The pvp in this so far shows the beneficial effects of the careful, frequent and iterative adjustments that make this game so much fun for everyone involved.
Clearly, permitting the ESL Pro League players have such a strong influence on balance has been beneficial. They have been demonstrably even handed. They’ve suggested changes that benefit not only there own preferred classes and playstyles, but accommodated everyone in a very egalitarian manner.

We’ll search for other players that fall within your pip range (which can extend outside of your division depending on where you’re currently placed) and pair you up with teammates who have a similar skill level to your own. We’ll then find you opponents within that same pip range and pair them against you, regardless of their skill level.

You make it sound like ESL players wanted Mesmer pushed out of the meta, when during the season every Pro League team had two of them. Seems a bit backwards that they would somehow have an agenda to be rid of the class that was existent as 40% of every team.

Bad logic…and I can’t see HOW some people end up in bad team all the time? If its random, wouldn ’t you get some good players in your team once in a while (so teams should, statistically, be even if you play long enough)
Conspiracy theory /
I never bought gems for RL money, and I end up in bad teams
/ end of conspiracy theory
It not really random. Right now you are paired up with players around your mmr level.
The other team you face has the same restriction for just thier team.
The stickking point is that they could have double your team’s mmr on average and you would still have a chance of facing them.
Matchmaking is by grouping now. Group 1 stat with zero pips, ALL players start with zero pips.
As for you ending up in a bad team, its relative skill and build disparity with the opposing team. If your team was at the very average mark, you could face a team you could beat only 50% of the time. The issue atm is if you ar in the lower rungs of mmr, say the 40th percent, you’d likely lose 60% of your fights. Note this isnt a gaurentee, fight 10 games win 4. You could be at 40% and lose 20 in a row, which is a 1 in 27k occurance, but you are one person in thousands of people at that 40%.
For example, using fractals as anothe in game reference – when fractals first came out you had a 20% chance to get an ascended ring from a fractal 10. It took me 23 tries to actually get a ring, chances of another person having the same result was one in 170.
My point is, the chances of an epic losing streak isnt that bad.

My point is, the chances of an epic losing streak isnt that bad.
But rest of us point is that theres too much people on epic losing/winning streaks
For now all those onesided matches and winning/losing streaks are fully intended by the matchmaking system, to split good and bad players faster across the divisions. It should get more balanced after some time.
Its a rough ride and some will get thrown off and lost ….

But rest of us point is that theres too much people on epic losing/winning streaks
Thats the issue this new matchmaking system will face. The amount of people who are reporting having an epic streak is probably not more than 1% of the player base. There are hundreds of thousands of players out there who have smaller streaks.
The odds of a 5 loss or win streak with a 50% mmr is around 1 in 33 people. The other 32 people have a higher or lower streak, with most of those 32 having a lower streak. Dont get me wrong, 5 losses in a row is fustrating. But last I checked I dont think that 3% of all players have given thier feedback that they are in a 5 or higher win / loss situation.

What is your point here? You are apparently not good enough on your mesmer to carry a team.
People really need to stop crying and start playing it as a league. Don’t play only your favourite class/setup in every match and complain you cannot win as such. Why do you think ESL teams change their setups?
Can confirm. Had a 64% win rate. Lost my first game of the season and just got shoved down further and further into the “Teams with less than 46 chromosomes” bracket.
@Hanza.6872
I agree wholeheartedly. It is infinitely clear that I am not a good enough Mesmer to carry a team. Probably, there are few if any players who are, given the current state of Mesmer.
Your call to “stop crying” is inspirational. I know that my heart swelled with renewed courage and resolve, reading those golden words. The originality and brevity are absolutely breathtaking.
No, of course it’s not appropriate to want to play a class and/or style that the player enjoys. Beyond doubt, the proper course is to ignore personal enjoyment or preference and simply play whatever build wins most consistently and easily.
Thank you for pointing that out with such scintillating clarity.

I’ve played 3 ranked matches today, all 3 had skilled Mesmer condi players wrecking face in them. I’d say you need to adjust your attitude.
Remember, positive thoughts equals positive outcomes.
Glad to see people posting here aren’t that different than any other PvP based game out there.
People act like gaming companies all got together at some big summit to screw with players since it’s never the players fault, they’re always better than the people on their team, they always belong in the highest ranks and they never switch things up or take a break when they go on a tilt.
Clearly it’s a conspiracy keeping you down and discouraged.
I think after you get a losing streak longer than 5. It is a good time to stop and reconsider your gameplay. The chance is that if you keep playing, you will keep losing because you didn’t perform well and you are also getting more tired. You can’t expect to magically get a few good players to carry a win for you.
Think about how you lost the games, what went wrong. Current meta tends to generate snowball effect much more easily since ppl die if they are not careful.
Having now lost 23 straight matches, my attitude is exemplary. The incomparable gameplay of my teammates and the amazing power of the various classes to resist or cure conditions has made for an evening that would be unforgettable were it not so common in my experience.
Nevertheless, I am confident that arena net will perceive the various minor and virtually inconsequential issues and fix them with alacrity.
After all, arena net has always been responsive, iterative and very quick to remove any factors that might lead to a game that was biased to any particular class.
Given anet’s long and distinguished history of superior game design, balance and implementation, there’s no question in my mind that this will occur. Witness the lack of class bugs and the release of HoT. Both of which showcase anet’s skills nicely.

Good gameplay from 1 person cannot make up for moronic team mates. I and a guildie both started the season at the same time soloqing so we were at the same level for matchmaking, he got 11 straight wins I got a raft of moronic teammates in every match who couldn’t even manage the basics of the game mode. I dunno what it is but anet are going to have a lot of disheartened players who may quit within a week.

I started with to bad matches. First against a 4 player premade that were realy good with one of us AFK immidiatly when seeing the oposition (My team was clearly not bad players but coordinated premade and one AFK ….) and the second i got a rookie team … At least the third was then won close (I could carry my team and thats a bad sign …..)
I feel i have to pair with a friend to get out of the trashcan …

“We’ll search for other players that fall within your pip range (which can extend outside of your division depending on where you’re currently placed) and pair you up with teammates who have a similar skill level to your own. We’ll then find you opponents within that same pip range and pair them against you, regardless of their skill level.”
The fact that they differentiate division placement from skill and say that your allies will be in your skill range while your enemies’ skill level is irrelevant implies that they do still use MMRs, but only for finding your teammates (who are also within your pip range.)
So each team should have players with a similar MMR on it, but the two teams won’t necessarily have a similar MMR.
@starbreaker.6507
As am I, nothing can shake my confidence that anet reads each and every post with care. In all likelihood, anet developers are even now poring over the results of the initial matches, eager to ensure that every player and every class has an adequate chance.
I’m confident that the ESL pro players will use there influence to make sure all classes can play on an equal footing.
This evening I’ve managed to complete an entire pvp level on my alt account without a single win. That’s more than 30 straight losses.
It is patently obvious that matches are being setup that are well adapted to fun and exciting play, since they provide an extremely level playing field.

“It should be easier since your teammates will be of more similar skill instead of the team teams having player skill split between them. Imagine matchmaking as if it were trying to make a bunch of 1v1 matches by picking 5 players as similar as possible to fight another set of 5 similar players.”
and by gaile:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Upcoming-Changes-for-PvP-League-Season-2/5904942
“Beginning with Season 2, matchmaking for Ranked matches will use your placement in your current league division as your primary matchmaking consideration and pair you against players who are placed in the same point range as you, regardless of the skill level (MMR) of the other people in that point range.
While we’ll be using divisions to match you against your immediate opponents, we’ll still use your MMR to place you on teams with similarly skilled players (from your division point range) to help ensure that you’re not forced to play with individuals that are of a much higher or lower skill than you.
Ultimately, this means that the new matchmaking changes will make PvP Leagues much more reflective of your actual skill, and each division will be progressively more difficult to compete in."
seems like everyone forgot about what gaile said.
