Each season, ANET makes one class faceroll. I think this is deliberate and I think it’s for the purpose of giving players with a lower skill level ( me ) a back door to still be able to compete.

The class rotates, perhaps because they don’t want any one profession to have a permanent reputation of being easy mode.

Here’s the rub though, I don’t feel much if any emotional connection to Dragon Hunter. It’s simply not a class that appeals to me. Sure I could play a bunker DH, but that wouldn’t be much fun for me.

Mesmer, Elementalist and Thief appeal to me.

So here’s my suggestion; make one relatively easy to play build on each class rather than asking players to chase the bandwagon.

This has been my dream ever since this game was released.

I think there should be a variety of levels of difficulty depending on the build within each class. Every class should have an easy mode build while also having more high reward/high risk builds.

And thats really the definition of “easy” tbf is just more “consistent”. Playing a DH is just more consistent and is why most people are playing them.

Oh and please get over the heavy bias against Mesmer. Clones once did the same damage as the Mesmer… now that might actually work.

Lord Helseth isn’t a normal player. He’s the sort of person balance decisions should NOT be based upon.

Ithilwen, you don’t balance around the lowest common denominator you balance for the above average, since they will fully utilize the class and show what is wrong with different builds.

How many play at Helseth’s level, really? Balancing around what a pro might do is not based on the reality of people actually playing PvP.

If some builds are a huge issue in Pro League, they can simply be banned for that game.

To return to my point, each class should have a relatively easy to play build. This would be better than the current system of rotating the easy build from class to class.

Each class already has faceroll build (yes, even thieves). In fact, all the HoT specs are nothing but faceroll.

Btw, i found Helseth yesterday in Silence of the Lambs movie – check out Buffalo Bill

there are almost no high risk/high reward build now, most past ones has been exceeded by HoT even in terms of reward. So we should really address that before anymore “easy build” comes up…

There are many “easy builds” they are all tied to the elite specs because they made them op and simple to use.

What they need is to separate pvp and pve skills so they can put in the balances that pvp needs but would ruin the classes in pve.

Or just remove elite specs from pvp all together~

Well your request is quite a hard one to fulfil because there is a high chance it would affect balance. DH may not be used in pro league but remember turret engi was banned. Besides, at least half the classes do have easy builds. Be careful what you wish for.

Though I may be biased cause I am against 90% of buff requests regardless of class. We need skills and traits to be weaker so pvp fights can be closer to what they were before HoT. Less forgiving builds & Less power creep.

I wasn’t talking about buffs. The power creep is obviously excessive already. What I’m really talking about is forgiving.

Not extremely so. The problem I see is that design and balance decisions are made to serve Pro Players. As such, they don’t really translate well to normal players.

New players can expect to simply be pounded mercilessly. The vast majority will probably quit rather than stick out the learning curve.

Yes, I know GW1 pvp required encyclopekittennowledge of the animations and symbols of every class.

I defy an ESL pro player to go to GW1 and not get hammered into the ground at least at first. Frankly, I couldn’t even get into a game in GW1. It has become so elite that if you don’t have years of experience you are not welcome.

That’s the path I see GW2 going down.

So you want builds to be even more forgiving?

Not sure how I feel about that as stalemates are already pretty common. But definitely think the game is becoming too conplicated ever since HoT. (i.e each skill doing so many things). I like the fast paced combat but this is a bit too much for newer players. Its also vital for getting new players to grow their e-sports thing :P

I started to pvp when lot of people already had bear/shark rank – obviously i got farmed badly back then. I knew what i am getting into, it is not first game i joined for pvp. I would say i am doing more than fine now.

It is part of getting better. You learn from mistakes, you get better. If game is made easier for noobs – they never learn.
I dropped acro back then – so i have less dodges and learn to manage those 2 dodges.

Prime example: old turret engi. Everyone was running it, was stupidly easy, obviously not as good at higher levels. What happened after turrets got nerfed? Suddenly majority of engis didn’t know how to play anymore.

HoT specs are already extremely forgiving, they are pretty much on auto-pilot – what else do you want? Hello, i am new to sports, never trained and want to participate in Olympic games – plz allow me to use car in sprints so i can keep up with professionals or i quit!

If you quit because you are new to game and get killed by better players – then sry you don’t belong in pvp anyway and would probably quit at some point anyway.

Actually you have too. You can’t have builds that when properly utilized become god mode. A player should be rewarded for good play, but you can’t over reward that player so extremely low skill level players can compete against ESL players. That creates a class when at the skill ceiling is too powerful.

In all honesty Anet should look at the 1 class that is balanced in this entire game. Thief. Normally I’d say power shatter mesmer (my main) but condi chrono is a thing.

Now thief is perhaps the weakest class in the game period. The skill floor and ceiling are rediculously high compared to the rest of the game, but even when you master the class you aren’t god tier. That is what Anet needs to balance the rest of the game at.

Would my main class and alts get nerfed if that were to happen? Yes, but for the good of the game it needs to happen.

The only reason why thief is arguably balanced (HoT specs are broken, regardless the class) is because they are mainly active (offensive, defensive etc.) where rest of classes – passives on passives riding aoe riding instants on short CDs.
