IGN are misinformed..
seems accurate to me, what exactly dont u like?
So what is wrong with accurately describing spectator mode?

Just to let you know clicking your link doesnt work, I had to copy & paste!!!
I actually agree with what Leif wrote. If you have ever used the spectator mode of games like DoTA 2 then you will see where he is coming from. Spectator mode is currently only in place for non-ranked matches i.e hotjoins and only allows for a few number of spectators. This is an extremely limited spectator mode.
Anet needs to add a spectator mode for tournaments where players actually play the game instead of zerging mindlessly for glory points. There needs to be a delay to the actual game for spectators to prevent cheating. And they must not restrict the number of spectators because everyone wants to watch the best play.
I dont think this game can ever reach e-sport status even though I can see that the developers are quite dedicated to making spvp better. Turning this game into an e-sport is too difficult since it has a PvE component. Unless the developers are totally dedicated to spvp at the expense of neglecting pve, I don’t see this game becoming an esport.
Sanctum of Rall 04/2013-
“If there’s a problem, it’s that it’s ripe for exploitation in that spectator players could watch enemy movements and alert their in-match friends of them via voice chat. Worse yet, the current system begs for such exploitation since there’s no time delay on the spectator feed as there was in Guild Wars 1. It’s also unfortunately limiting in that spectators count toward the overall match count, meaning that watching a match featuring the game’s best players is completely out of the question.
That’s a severe limitation, and one that dashes most realistic hopes that Guild Wars 2’s structured PvP tournaments will catch on with the eSports crowd."
- Watching high level matches has never been easier (or better).
- As for delay, firstly most players stream anyway, but from a shoutcasters perspective couldn’t they use something like this?

If by “its never been easier or better” to watch high level matches then thats kind of obvious…. since there was no spectator mode before this. However, that does not make it a good system.
As for the delay, people are not going to stream their games in they are playing in an actual tournament which has prizes, cash or otherwise. And those are the matches that people most want to spectate. Without the time delay there is reasonable risk in viewing these matches.
Everything that the IGN article has detailed is true. Sorry.

People obviously won’t be spectating major tournaments in game.. Which leaves the delay issue with the shoutcasters as I mentioned. Not sure what your point is here..

So is this spectator mode, or let a shoutcaster join the match mode?

So is this spectator mode, or let a shoutcaster join the match mode?
Pretty much, yeah. It’s mainly for shoutcasters with hopes that the shoutcasters will be streaming.

Then its really not spectator mode… which is what the article mentions as an issue…

It’s spectator mode with regards to esports, which the article mentions explicitly..

Direct quote about spectator mode as it relates to ESports. The issues being that there is a limit to number of spectators that can join, lack of ability to spectate tournaments and the potential for people who are spectating to talk to current players to give information.
All 3 of those ARE issues and I dont know how anyone could deny it. So again, what is wrong with the article?

The points raised by the post with regards to tournaments have been mentioned above
But if this is just about attrition of time then you win.
