So the basic idea is: merge conquest with deathmatch.
Imagine a new arena map, as soon as it begins both teams are face to face, countdown from 10 seconds, a mid point, no other points yet. The first team killing the other team gets the mid point capped, then the second phase of the game begins. The winning team spawns on the mid point wich is capped for them, now it starts giving points to them, but now the side points appear, the team whom lost the deathmatch spawns all at the same time on a spawn area, then they decide either to attack mid, split for side points, or well.. many options. Now the first team scoring 500 wins, just as usual.

This way would prevent teams to run “spike” setups wich may happen in deathmach only mode. Also, running full bunker setup wouldn’t be possible, as killing the others is mandatory.

Just brainstorming, opinions?

I think at this point anything new would be a well received and welcome addition to the current Conquest+Secondary Objective game type.

No more conquest please. I understand everyone trying to make the best of what we got, but what we got is only one single game mode with an afterthought tossed in to make it look like it’s something different. I’m glad people are throwing out their ideas and maybe someone at Anet might actually consider thinking about it.

Well, GW2’s combat relies a lot on terrain control, so conquest should always be there, even if as a secondary objective only; or if not, something similar.

In my opinion, future pvp maps should either have another objective to be “equally” important as hold points (see: spirit watch), giving to the player’s the choice about which objective they would like to focus on; or have holding points as the secondary mechanic, as a means to acchieve a primary objective (for example, holding points to open doors in a kill the lord or base assault mode, holding points to make carrying orbs spawn in a ctf game, etc).

I disagree about how GW2 Combat relies a lot on terrain control. The fact that conquest is the only game type it pretty much dictates the combat and builds. I think that in a full tournaments a conquest map should be a part of the rotation. Not the only rotation. Spirit Watch orb ctf mechanic is a joke. A real CTF map with 2 flags and 2 bases would be ideal. Capture the Present Wintersday PvP was 1000x more fun than Spirit Watch.

Yeah. 2 flags would be much better. And maybe powerups to speed up the flag carrier(or orb if you want orbs).

Wintersday was fun and I wished they made exactly the same only with your sPvP classes/ skills.

About terrain: I think that you can dodge and knock people off is important. For example in Temple of the Silent Storm at the Stillness buff(mid top) you can knock guys down.

They couldmake some maps where you really could hold some capture point and have it easier to defend(and maybe can knock down people into lava of stuff).

Spirit Watch is bad because it is a lot of zerging and once someone gets the orb in most cases he is unstoppable. 2 orbs would prevent from zerging too much… own orb(or flag) needs to be a bit away from the own spawn of course so there’s still incentive to stay alive(cause you get respawn time and need to walk some way to your own flag if you die defending).

Any game mode would be welcome, imo

but i think arena deathmatch is the one that suits most to gw2. Fast, easy and fun. Even if it wasn’t main mode, it would teach people how to teamfight properly
