So I had a thought about Stronghold and couldn’t help but think it was a shame it isn’t played, and I ended up looking for a way to make it more enjoyable and suitable for competitive play;

In my (humble) opinion, what makes Stronghold “bad” is the lack of actual Player vs Player content, it’s actually more PvE: killing door breakers, killing champions, killing lords, killing archers, healing lord, healing champion and whatnot… So what if the npc’s (maybe not the champions) were replaced with temporary buffs allowing to attack the gates as a player, or giving bonus damage to the ennemy lord? Maybe even allowing to treb the gates if you have the door breaker buff?

I’d love to hear your insight on this idea!

the map is boring as hell tbh, there is no “real” pvp behind it, no rotations, no huge teamfights, more pve than pvp

even if stronghold became a thing, people would find out which classes are best at defending and which are at attacking and every comp / strategy would be the same each and every game

The elements used in Stronghold are very tedious and need to be streamlined. Running to the center to gather supply only to then have to run back to use the gathered supply is very un-PVP like. If it was Anet’s intention to emulate a MOBA style of gameplay everything should be automated. As soon as the match starts, archers and doorbreakers should pour out automatically. The flow speed could be controlled when a player completes the channeling (“gathering supply”) with the effect taking place immediately. Or they could just convert the center into a dueling area that warps one player from each team to duel. Selection could be random or voluntary. The winner gets a Hero spawn.

Easy solution, player death counts as points – maybe just 5 points like they always do – or even more! That way people could still win by defending Lord

Eg player death 5 points, after the first door’s broken 10 points and after the last door is broken 20 points (the deaths of the team who broke the doors)

In that case a team could win, just by defending Lord (collect points) and not attacking the enemy door (give enemy way less points for their own deaths)

I would make it more like WvW by replacing doorbreakers and archers for a siege depot kinda like tf2 MvM perk shop except you get the siege via supplies and you lose the siege if you die. The treb will no longer be automatically repaired. In addition to adding siege, they’ll be modified for PvP use. It would be broken if the opps were able to defend a wall 3000+ units away by spamming ac aoe. Widen the map by 5000 units to make room for more paths and buildings and make it a 8v8 or 10v10 match.

To be honest I’m happy with Battle of Champion’s Dusk the way it is. I’m used to the map. Maybe if instead of making huge changes to the Stonghold map we have another Stronghold map. Players like me who have conquest unchecked could vote either BoCD or the new map.
Or, could get more people into it if season 6 was all Stronghold. First 4 seasons you could choose between Stronghold or Conquest. Season 5 was all Conquest. How about season 6 all Stronghold?
