If Anet wants to push Ele to dps...
I found that an arcane kamikaze worked quite well on Carrion. Not that it will work well with 1.8 million bunkers, but would you like the build so when bunkers get booted from the game you have something to test?
I know it will sound better on paper, but when everyone was playing the dps meta/roam meta I found myself constantly destroying 1v1’s and 1v2s. Curiously, against standard duels (the /bow type) most people didn’t react in time despite me doing the same combo… some did and I died horrendously though…
Anywho, you want it or not? Not denying Ele dps needs more, but I’d be WAY careful in how we do “more”.

Sure. Go ahead. You are not allowed to show me a build using Focus, though.
yeah, problem with ele is it can’t do dps and defense at the same time, since its main defense is protection+healing, which only works on defensive builds. That combined with the fact that it has to be in close range to do any reliable damage
buff arcane shield, make ride the lightning evade, etc
give it defense that works with offensive builds.
Or give it more reliable ranged damage (buff scepter, but for real)

This is my preferred version. Its more smooth, more focused, and does not have too many flashy effects. Problem is its more one-trick pony than not. For the base set (because I take tempest simply to fire tornado downed people and walk off/forget em) you’d want air line with – air=superspeed, stun=shock aura, stun=weakness. I’ve found more success with air than tempest, but I use tempest because most teams needed me to bail them out in teamfights. If I have a competent team and they lemme roam, I absolutely swap to fire/air/arcane.
For utilities- you can take whatever you want to be completely honest, all you really need is the Arcane Blast and Arcane Power for the projectile+5 free burn keeping in mind using power into blast gives an instant 2 stacks of burn and if you do ArcanePower→Fire3→Fire4→ArcaneBlast+EarthAttunement→Earthquake people usually just die if they have no out or free response. The helpful bit is the initial burst breaks through most classes free condi cleanse traits and thresholds while the follow-up burn stacks do the rest.
For Runes/Sigils- I don’t like flashy, but if you REALLY hate the set up then you can easily swap for Rune of Flame Legion, Fire, or something along the lines of an aura or burn duration. Sigil wise, probably your preference again.
:) Anywho, enjoy this in unranked and on the 26th, in ranked. >:D I know I will.

That cannot be viable. You have no condition clear and need to be in melee.

If a Reaper hugs you, you’ll die. If a condi Rev port to you, just sit down and don’t struggle. It’ll go away faster.

Honestly for ele dps to ever have a chance they’d have to undo the RTL nerfs. ~16 seconds RTL cooldown is what made berzerker ele viable at the launch of the game, because you could actually back out and heal up again instead of being forced to brawl every fight out with your sustain.

The RTL change was a big change. After that and the Mistform series of nerfs, all the Ele meta build became putting on as most sustain as possible and outlive the opponents. The reason? They couldn’t disengage anymore. Even with RTL nerf reverted, Ele without sustain can’t escape against a Thief or Rev with 5s port.

To quote one of my favorite characters “Therein lies the value of not being seen”. Builds work based on playstyles. If you prefer to yell “YO IM HERE COME FIGHT ME” then ofc this thing won’t work. But if you play like me and focus on locking your foe for the 1.5/2 seconds needed to finish it off, then this works. In fact, this is the only ele build I’ve run since arcane=burn became a stackable concept. I’ve dabbled in others, but come to this. I did check my in game concept/set-up:

Then I ran some field testing and…uh…ye. Forgot how much hilarity comes from an instagib burn ele.
Uh. You faced guardians/reapers/revs with this and won?
Ele can get a decent amount of cleanse on a burst spec, as burst specs don’t need a lot of cleanse – just enough to live long enough for the kill. In that vein, some combination of cleansing wave OR evasive arcana with either cleansing fire OR focus generally gives enough to get a burst off.
DPS ele’s problem is:
1. No advantage or niche to fill over other roaming/dps specs. Thieves have #1 self mobility + stealth, mesmers have portal + a bit of stealth, revs have enough hard mitigation to be nearly a bruiser, eles have….short range boons that due them no good because prot on an 11K HP-low armor target is worthless.
2. Not enough defense to compete when focused by another dps spec. There isn’t nearly enough mobility to gtfo, not enough blocks/evades/invulns to rely on CD’s to survive, and not enough ranged damage to play intelligent positioning tricks to mitigate these weaknesses (like longbow ranger kinda almost did in the past, and shatter still does effectively). Ele defenses all rely on having a sturdy body to absorb blows and heal through it, which just doesn’t jive with a dps spec. Without a defensive increase, dps ele will continue to get kitten on super-hard by thieves and oppressed out of the meta (like they have been for most of the past).
