Because they can.

They may be their preferred profession overall, and they use it everywhere because they know the skills and are used to them, or maybe because they are stubborn and want to get the warrior achievements before they switch to another profession, or maybe for a silly reason like they like how the gear looks.
Or maybe just to prove they are not sissy cowards that will use dirty cheap cowardly tricks like ranged weapons, or dps conditions, or stealth, or illusions, or hiding behind minions, pets and other summoned creatures, or running away as soon as their HP gets under 75%.
They get close to the enemy, and they smash them with a hammer. Bluntly. No tricks. No cowardice, no retreats. Just sheer brave power.

But it doesn’t matter why they choose warrior.
What matters is that they can choose warrior. It’s not a PvE-only profession. So it should work in PvP as well as any other profession with any other build.

I run a warrior in sPvP for 1 reason alone – I don’t want to be carried by my class. When I succeed its me and not due to class advantages. Simple as that. Same reason I played Chanter in Aion.

I was running a pre made last night very good team I might say. we only lost once and then dominated that team after words… We were running 2 warriors 2 Eles 1 spirit ranger. One warrior was shout heals with celestial amulet and the other was glass canon longbow GS we had great synergy. With the ranger water field the longbow could arc it for aoe heals and the other had warhorn another blast and Eles with arcane blast and more blasts. We made a great team even vsing teams with 2 necros we dominated that’s because conditions didn’t stand a chance against us with ele condi removal ranger water field shout warrior. Great teamwork and bam

…why people bring them into tPvP?

Even though they are not the most represented profession, in yolo queue hardly any match goes without warriors (premade teams excluded).

You just answered your own question. It’s solo queue.

For me personally, I’ve run the class since launch and also played warrior in GW1. I think magic, ranged, and stealth based classes are lame and I won’t change just so I can be considered “viable,” which currently means having an overpowered spec that doesn’t have many major weaknesses and can only be beat by a similarly broken spec. We have some “OK” builds, meaning balanced, so it’s still possible to do well. I still believe that warrior is the most balanced class amidst a sea of power creep.

Because I always choose the most underdog class in MMO to play with. I like being challenged. And on top of that, warrior is my class of choice anyway. However if it ever gets OP in this game (which I doubt a little) I will probably choose the next underdog class. Perhaps ranger.

Now I could ask similarly as you did – Why do people choose to bring Necro in to the game, if they know, it’s currently THE FOTM? Don’t they want some challenge? Don’t they want to feel a little special when they finish someone off? Don’t they want to differentiate themselves from others abit? Don’t they have any pride, an urge to investigate stuff?

Could you imagine a greater reward, than finding a warrior build right now, in this meta, with which you could play tPvP on a level where opposing players would consider you a serious threat? I can’t imagine any greater reward in gaming than that.

So picking the FOTM build or any other build I know that works is absolutely boring to me. I rather just close GW2 then and go watch some Futurama or whatever…

These are some valid reasons for bringing a warrior into tPvP. However, I find them quite egoistic.

I’m sure you can play your warrior well. I’m sure you can turn an underdog into a top fighter. I’m sure you can find warrior builds that pose major threat in all kind of situations. However, vast majority of yolo queue warriors can’t – but it does not stop them from joining tPvP. Sometimes matchmaking puts two, or even three of them into a single team versus a properly balanced setup.

I ‘m an average player (93%, yolo queue mostly). My tPvP main is, for some of the reasons mentioned in this thread, an average class – thief . However, I’m willing to drop my personal preferences and goals (champion shadow title) for team’s sake. I relog to a bunker, if there is none in the team. I relog to a necro, if there are only direct DDs. Isn’t tPvP a team oriented activity, after all?

Perhaps that’s why I can’t really stand situations like 3 weak players using underdog warriors and all of them refusing to roll something else for the sake of the team. The joys and sorrows of yolo queue…

So you want warriors to be prohibited on tpvp?, becasue this is what it sounds like.

Well this just shows how bad are warriors and how egoistic the community is thinking that they are more important than others and the world revolves around them.

But what we can expect from a guy that mains an “average” thief, an “average” thief that can burst people down from stealth, an “average” thief that can go invisible anytime he wants and escape or reset the fight to their convenience, an “average” thief that can teleport away from weapon skills or utilities, an “average” thief that has an evade in a weapon and can steal boons from the target, an “average” thief that can spam blinds all over the place in many ways, from weapon skills to utilities and traits, an “average” thief that has much better healing than many classes and of course warriors, an “average” thief that can achieve perma evasion if they spec for it, and good luck hitting that, an “average” thief that can spam his abilities with no cd.

Yeah, pretty average class.

You should see this warrior I met once. He ran a full zerker rifle/GS build. All game, all day he sniped (would use GS to get up and HB bodies when downed) and thats it.
I am not saying he is bad/skill lacking (on the contrary, the guy was kitening brilliant) but I am saying not all warriors play for the “brave power” factor lol.

Yeah, pretty average class.

I am not saying he did not sound conceited (more frustrated at his 3 warrior team though lol) but the thief is pretty “average” in tpvp if they do not know what to do.
Unlike most classes, they cannot just jump into a team fight and expect to live.
The problem is, neither can warriors :-/

That is a wrong assumption. All I ask for is to have some common sense when tPvPing. Also, since when doing something that helps your team (even random yolo queuers), is egoistic?

Of course you don’t have to agree with my opinion that in tPvP settings thieves are an average profession. You could always check a thread in this forum, where PvP community rates the classes; thieves in every edition have been rated in ‘below average’ tier.

PS. Oh, you should also mention how you saw a perma-stealth thief…

I said perma evasion, read.

And it is egoistic that you ask other people to dont play because they will ruin your game, that is your reality, face it.

Well, I played some yoloqueues playing hammer and mace. I was pretty good at taking down the bunker. Considering I was the only one doing this, I think my role was useful, right?

Well, it doesn’t help when all other players do random stuff.

To do well in soloqueue, you should probably build for a precise role and do it without expecting to play in a working group. E.g.: I play a home point defender → As the mission starts, I go and take control of my homepoint. And stay there. Without the need to coordinate.

But in this way, you’ll never be able to play stuff like roamer, which works when the rest of the team works.

If I play a warrior, and I know I might be a good shutdown-bunker buster, I think It’s not egoistic to play. If there are not other guys like you, either this or another role are equally needed, so you can play what you like.

You will never be able to know what an engineer is going to do next…
