If you're whining about PVP try this...
Good post. You had me until I read you said people complain about Ele kiting. If you complain about Ele anything, it’s a fail.
Other than that, I pretty much agree with you.
sPvP should cap at 10 players too. Otherwise, good for you if you’re good with a fully organized group but the complaints are justified when people pug tPvP. The devs might as well say that they don’t support solo play if they don’t fix anything.
Haha Zatria, I’ve seen people complain about everything, I was just trying to be fair across the board.
I have to agree that if you’re pugging tournaments than you probably aren’t having a lot of fun. I know it’s not much fun for us to come across a pug group because it’s not even a challenge.
My point is that I think the people that are the ones complaining the loudest are the ones that are stuck in the sPVP zerg fest or the ones that are pugging tournies. Both of which would be a disaster for someone trying to enjoy this games PVP.
KryshadeIf you really want to experience the GW2 PVP then you need to join tPVP. Now, if you single join and you aren’t using VOIP then expect to get destroyed by a team that is. It takes very little effort to find 5 people to play with. Understand that VOIP is pretty much essential if you want to do well.
I agree with you on all points. However you have to remember that it can take time to find people you can actually tolerate if you’re somewhat picky about the people you are going to spend time with.
I queue with a RL friend or solo the majority of the time. I have my own vent server (for years now) and have done the whole FPS clan and MMO guild thing before (for years as well). However with GW2 (and TOR before that) we are starting fresh since most of the people we started playing with are our age and gone their seperate ways with careers/family etc.
I’ve tried to do the search for new players to organize with for PvP but I just can’t stand the whole aggro kid thing. The disrespect for everyone, the narcissism run rampant, the “yolo” “kid” “son” and whatnot along with endless expletives every other word. After spending the past year or so running into this in VOIP channel after VOIP channel I would frankly rather put up with solo queuing at this point to spare myself the noise and disappointment.
I know that not everyone is like this, and probably not even a massive percentage. There’s probably plenty of older gamers that remember what sportsmanship, manners and basic human decency and respect is out there. The stuff you have to dig through to find them though… ugh.

So the only people allowed to enjoy pvp are the ones running a regular five man premade with voice comms in tournament play?
See how long that attitude keeps a playerbase around.
@Kat has a valid point.
The game should be fun for people who want to hot join as well as get really competative. In fact, they make up the majority of the player base and Anet would be very wise to listen to them (maybe not act on everything but at least look into providing some balance tweaks).
The big problem with the game is the maps are designed aroudn 5v5 not 8v8. Bigger maps with more capture points would be more appropriate for 8v8.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
My only whine would be that why the hell Anet made sPvP 8 vs 8. What is reason behind that?

I don’t mind 8v8. I think their intent was for people to actually defend something. Which I find sort of funny. If I stick around, or run around healing everyone…………………………………………………….. I get no points. No points = no leveling. No leveling = why bother. So let’s just zerg.
Hi. That is what i’ve done. Took some of my friends from previous games and we did tournaments. Won almost everything. Gameplay still wasnt interesting at all, conquest is kitten, in the end we all just joked about how silly this game while we played and by now they’ve all left the game.
What now OP?
Also who are you to decide where we play? You dont know our reasoning. Spvp is played by a lot of people and it is just as important to have it be fun and not broken. It is the gateway of PvP if you think about it. All of you tournament players (i am one too) who feel that that is a mode that requires insane amounts of skill while downplaying Spvp are really tiring me out. ‘’Dont nerf A, nobody uses it in tpvp anyway’’ is also a very dumb, self intitled argument that i hear a lot on these forums. It also defeats itself, because why do you care if nobody around you uses it anyway? Come on people.. no need to act pro and immune to faceroll tactics on the forums, just use your head and really think about what the argument is.
Tournament conquest brings its whole other slew of imbalances and bad designs yet its heralded as something skilled and perfectly balanced. Which if you had any MMO pvp experience you’d know it isnt.

Nice post, but hey, not everyone wants to do Tpvp with VOIP. If 5v5 premade tourneys are the only thing that counts in this PvP and the only thing that is balanced, guess what? Have fun on your empty servers.
If Anet does not care about the pugs and Spvp games, then this game is dead before it even goes Esport. Period.
Anet needs to sort out Spvp before they can even think of going Esport because if they don’t, who are you going to play against??
ArenaNet should use a 3rd party program as VOIP. A VOIP made by themselves at the ArenaNet headquarters, made for PvPers and dungeon runners. I would gladly pay 10 euro for this program.
WHY IS HOT JOIN 8v8? tPvP pug should get much easier once the new patch introduces paid tournaments and any of the serious teams go there to play (assuming they like competition and not just stomping random pugs).
Stay out of sPVP! It’s nothing but a zerg fest and is exactly where all the insta-gib happens that people complain about. It’s great for trying out builds but other than that it will just start to aggravate you.

Expect to get owned at first. My guild {AIM} is honestly one of the better PVP guilds I’ve come across. We win 90% of our matches but it wasn’t always that way. We got ROFLSTOMPED in the beginning and it took a few weeks for us to really start to gel together. Now though it’s a completely different story. We work well together, we have a blast and we don’t run what people consider all the OP classes.
I can’t remember the last time anyone was insta-gibbed by a thief or we couldn’t get a bunker off a point. I feel like 99% of the complaints I see on the forums are from bad players getting destroyed in sPVP. When you are in a horde of 9 people guess what’s gonna happen? You’re going to get your kitten whooped. I personally don’t find it much fun and try to stay away from it.
If you’re one of these people that whine about thief DPS, guardian survivability, mesmer moa’s, necro conditions, engi knockbacks, elementalist’s kiting etc then I highly recommend you find some friends, start practicing tournaments, don’t cry when you get stomped and keep on trying. I think you’ll find that you start to agree with the people that say they feel like this game is pretty well balanced overall (it is) and you just might start having a bit more fun then the mass zerg horde that is sPVP.
My team, Pancakes to Celebrate [PTC], is always looking for good teams to play. Send me a whisper in game and we can sync! Unless you’re EU.

Ele’s are more then fine in tPvP. Even in their damage builds they bring a whole lot of support and healing via 10 points in Arcane and 15 points in Water. Not to mention their damage builds have most of the burst that other builds have. Honestly I think Engineers and Eles are probably the most powerful professions in the game for tPvP, and no one realizes it.

a great post man. finally someone said it. might want to add “99% of the times you die it’s because YOU made a mistake.”
+1. Good post man.

Ele have powerful burst? They must be glass cannon you can’t have both as a ele, You either spend points to do damage or survive and as it looks a lot of eles are running the same D/D build with points invested into water—>earth—>arcane. Also using more defensive slot upgrades.

The Valk Amulet gives you most of the burst that other burst damage builds offer and plenty of survival. It’s not as powerful as other burst professions, since I never even said that, but it comes equipped with a lot of splash healing, boon support, and control. Absolutely ideal for a roamer that supports an ally.
Specifically, I’m referring to the Valk build with 0/20/0/20/30 as a S/D Elementalist. I’m sure you will mock it’s low health, but the Healing and Toughness it offers makes it incredibly durable. It is one of the most evasive builds in the game due to Ride the Lightning and plenty of Swiftness. Mist Form and Arcane Shield offer extra active mitigation and Arcane Blast offers some extra burst. Glyphs for the Elite and Healing. Assuming you can move between Attunements without too much trouble, it’s exceptional. Are you going to win a duel against a everyone? No, but that’s not what is even needed in tPvP.
If you are referencing some D/D build, I honestly have yet to see a viable one personally. I fully support some D/D changes and obviously, just as for any profession, would like to see all of the inadequate traits and skills made useful. Claiming that Ele’s are completely useless though is silly to me though, as they have at least two viable builds in tPvP. Do they need more? Of course, but that doesn’t invalidate the options they have right now. Their open sPvP status in my opinion is garbage though, and as stated above needs to be improved.

you win 90% of your matches in tpvp as a premade because you play pugs 90% of the time. Tpvp is just as boring as spvp until they add rankings and match making.
i wish i knew how to type English so i could make a post this good.
i agree with it all and i been enjoying playing really good teams and either winning or losing by a little.

As an Elementalist, maybe it’s just me, but I feel infinitely more valuable in a tPvP match compared to being in 8v8 sPvP. It just feels way too crazy and simply pointless to try and deal with 5 or 6 people at a time on a single capture point. I get burst down in a second flat unless I use an invulnerability. Trying to stay within the cap zone is a death sentence and feels like I’m sacrificing myself for the greater good to deny the cap. There’s no hope or chance of surviving unless you’re a ridiculously built bunker facing unskilled players.
