Improve the esports potential for gw2
Simple:
Add an in-game message for when a pvp tournament has begun or is being streamed. Having the banner on the forum page with links is great, but an in-game message would help to promote pvp and draw in the masses of non-pvp players.
I agree. I’ve suggested something similiar, but promotion INGAME should be already implemented.
Yes with some information about the tournament and the current roster. Also a chat function for the people would be great.
Lots of simple changes could really help this game, even outside of actual game mechanics.
How do you pronounce your name?
people still would not watch

That requires hiring another programmer to code it. 75% chance it will bug and we will get the in-game message at the wrong time non-stop.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
Nobody cares, the only reason why some people watch is to win a llama (lmfao). If there where no prizes, the viewer count would be even lower.
Seriously just stop with esports

This is it sadly…
Though I gotta be honest, I usually watch the replays rather than the streams because I can just sit down and relax, it is just a mess to watch sometimes – so I cannot blame those who only watch for the prices…

Grouch already confirmed in a twitch chat that they really like this idea and that they are working on something in this direction ^^.

We loved reading your opinions and ideas. We will let you know that we have discussed this and are working on it. It is certainly something that is on the horizon and should be implemented soon™!"

We have faith in Grouch fixing gw2 pvp. I believe in you.

I believe in Grouch a lot of things improved since he is the competetive events manager ^^
I also agree. It can be a message flashing across the screen, a message in the chat window, or even an in-game mail with the stream link, but definitely do SOMETHING to remind people to watch – a lot more would if they knew it was on: only a TINY proportion of players read the forums and follow the social media feeds!
Championship matches being viewable from inside the game was a huge factor in bringing the community togehter in GW1. I know we have to put up with Twitch instead now, but at least guide people to it from inside the game!
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
They probably don’t do it because then people will see the disconnects and the lack of pause feature and realize this game isn’t esports at all!
Wahoo! Bye frands!

Optimistic!
I however think a dc would barely be noticeable to observers due to all the flower-power rainbow-pony supernova explosions in the midst of turrets and other pets on a tiny lil point! I am quite certain that, rather than a notice of esportz match, a warning to people with epilepsy is more appropriate, if not almost mandatory!
Yay

500 or so people watched ToG last weekend, and Sizer’s stream regularly has a couple of hundred watching him play. People do enjoy watching gw2 pvp.
Let’s keep on topic of trying to drive more players from other game modes into watching PvP tournaments, rather than the problems with graphics etc., because I do believe it can be enjoyable to watch and will be good for the game.
I believe this could draw in many PvE players and WvW players, and prevent PvP being by far the minority game type. This would then have knock on effects for the quality of life in PvP, game updates, and even quality of play if more people get involved.
Oh I am certain it it can be enjoyable to watch. With your eyes closed, that is~
I think that simply having a leaderboard system in game( with rating visible) and daily tournaments in game( like GvG’s in GW1) would improve the potential.
Having messages would do good, but wouldn’t draw enough players in my opinion
Still too many bugs, and lacking core features to ever be #esports, they need to focus on balance and bugs before anything else :/
As long as there is an option for players to turn off any such banners and/or messages I would be OK with this suggestion. That way they could still communicate to the few who will want this information and not make the game annoying for the rest of the players in the game.
Thanks.

than you can with merely a kind word.”
The only people on the forums are those who cannot play the game. On the weekends I have time to play. When these ToG messages are UP on the forums, I am in game. Also, I have the auto log in tab checked, meaning that I don’t see the “news” on the front page advertising these tourneys such as ToG.
For months, PvPers got to see in big yellow text on their screens “SCARLET’S MINIONS ARE ATTACKING X”. Why isn’t that an option? Why isn’t “The Tournament of Glory has begun, watch at: http:/twitch.tv/guildwars2” Why doesn’t it say “Team X has defeated Team Y and moved on” (similar to GW1).
I have heard this isn’t the most elegant solution but at least its advertising! AND IN GAME! I thought it was sad, when my dota 2 playing friend mentioned he had NO IDEA there was any “esports” tourney going on for GW2, because he hadn’t seen ANYTHING about it. I personally had no idea what he was talking about either. I mean, I PLAY THE GAME and had no idea there was ToG going on or anything or even this WTS.
Wish there was more advertisements about it. That being said, I am NA and would love to watch these tourneys live. Hope they haven’t happened yet.
Edit: Oh, looks like I missed em, wish there was some advertisements about them or even where to watch the old ones -_-.
Am I good?… I’m good.

Err… since the topic is about notifying people IN-GAME about tournaments being streamed live, you have to assume they’re already playing and therefore have noticed the disconnects and lack of pause feature. And yet they’re still playing, so maybe they still enjoy the game anyway and would like to watch some matches! :p

Yeah, something as simple as that!
And it wasn’t just during the big world tournaments in GW1, it was EVERY 15’, whenever someone won a game in HoH:

Until you can spectate a live match (with a delay, 5 mins was the delay in GW1) there will be no real esport for GW2. You will have a niche group doing niche pvp tournaments and that is where it ends.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
I agree that a flashing yellow message ig would be best.
esports. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
