I made this post early this morning, but deleted it, because I worried it would lead to negative feedback when I genuinely like what I am seeing in-game. Seeing more discussion today, I decided want to renew my request: Can we get a detailed explanation on placement?
I’m not mad, personally. I love winning just about as much as anyone so day one was a breeze. I actually feel bad about ruining other folk’s potential enjoyment.
Some background: I played seasons 1-3 and made legendary each time. I didn’t play S4, but was excited to see what would happen yesterday. I went 7-3 in placement games, earning an average of 3 badges for stats in each game. I alternated between DPS and support so I could make sure, in case it was a factor in skill rating, my placement matches showed I could carry all the categories across a small sample. I received my initial rating, and honestly, it seemed pretty low considering my W-L and badge totals. Oh well, placement over. Let’s roll.
I then played 10 more games and went 9-1. 7/9 wins were by LARGE margins and the only loss was 500-496. One of the seven wins was short-handed 4v5 for the duration; another was 4v5 for the first several minutes. Essentially, I’ve been placed where I can realistically expect to win even against the odds. That’s really not fair to the people getting stomped.
Was I supposed to go 8-2 or better? Average 4 badges per game? Consistently just win the same categories in every single game? Just curious for more specifics as to the way placement was calculated. I’m not worried about long-term as I understand how the larger sample of games will correctly place people in the end. But how does the starting point really shake out?
