In-game voice chat for solo/team pvp?
One serious problem with this is the language barrier - 14 of the EU servers are vaguely english-language, but then we have 13 catering primarily to speakers of other languages (7 German, 5 French, 1 Spanish). It could work in organised groups, but for soloq a good number of EU teams would end up unable to communicate well enough to make it worthwhile.
For PvE/WvW, there’re other issues - do players choose which of party/team/squad/map to listen and speak to? Pretty sure implementing something like this would be overly complex when third-party programs already deal with this well enough.
i would never join this^^
Ever played <name of any modern FPS here> online? It’s a bunch of children yelling obscenities at each other and QQing. No thanks. If you want to play with an organized team, play in teamQ and use a service that has experience doing voice (vent/teamspeak/mumble/etc)
Team chat already gets full of garbage that ultimately results in that team losing the game when a troll starts trash talking the rest of the team and folks spend their time talking back to the troll instead of focusing on playing the game/winning.
These are all valid, potential problems, but the point of voice chat would be to culminate a greater sense of community – something that GUILD wars 2 is severely lacking. The goal is to get people to interact cooperatively…There’s little to no motivation to make friends with anyone in pvp, much less form a team.
In LOTRO, DayZ, and even in MMOFPS games there are built-in VC systems that are one of the core features keeping games alive. Sure, there will be trolls and kittens, but that’s what the block/mute button is for. And you could always just turn the VC feature off completely.
The language barriers are unfortunate realities, but it would be no worse than being unable to communicate through team chat…in fact it would be quite entertaining imo.
A well-implemented voice chat system would at least bring some life to the almost dead pvp community.
