In which order would you place each profession atm?
For tourneys:
1. Engineer (just… very very strong)
2. Mesmer (strong 1v1, almost required for Kylo)
3. Guardian (strong at node defense)
4. Thief (strong roamer)
5. Elementalist (strong roamer or defensive support… best class to destroy treb @kylo)
6. Nekromancer (just too many bugs. once they are fixed he’s probably very good, at the moment he’s just “so so”)
7. Ranger (mhhh… Mesmer does the same stuff Ranger does, only better)
8. Warrior (outshined by other classes when defensive, too predictable when offensive)
in my humble opinion.
1. All class played by any Player that learned to adapt
2. All classes played by any Player that did not post asking for nerfs
3..
4…
5…
6…
7…
8.
9. All classes played by players that are unwilling to adapt and make troll threads or ask for nerfs
Tournament play:
1. Warrior(100B has sick burst dmg, combined with some coordinated stuns people just die when their stunbreakers are used)
2. Thief(Good roamer due to high mobility and good 1v1. Nice class to set pressure on everything that’s not survival specced)
3. Guardian(Aoe stability for revives and stomps. Good support together with great point defense).
4. Mesmer(Best roamers in my opinion because of their superior 1v1 and nice to have on kylo treb)
5. Engineer(Nice point defence pretty good 1v1)
6. Elementalist(Nice support builds and some nice CC)
7. Ranger(Nice proff but others do it better)
8. Necromancer(Cant see any reason to ever bring any. Sure their conditions are nice and epidemic is great aoe and so on.. but comon..;P)
Tournament play:

There is one thing necros can do better then any other prof (I’ve played every prof) and that is – kill bunker guardians. Now, I wouldn’t know if this is a good reason to bring one with the team.
Great: Thief, Guardian, Ranger, Mesmer
Okay: Engineer, Necromancer
Mediocre: Warrior, Ele
Tournament play:
8. Necromancer(Cant see any reason to ever bring any. Yeah necros are pretty good vs some guardians but they are just to easy to lock down/kill. They dont seem to have the survival cooldowns needed to survive long enough vs other professions and deathshroud is just a CC on yourself. Just my opinion though

Yea, you are right. Necro is made to tank dmg, but it’s as tanky as any other non-tanky profession. Shroud gives some survivability, but meh…
Shroud shouldn’t hide your regular abilities and it should be a lot more accessible (like 5sec default CD). Shroud design is meh also, you got one auto attack and rest are gazilion seconds CDs.
1. Mesmer, Guardian
2. Thief
3. Warrior, Ranger, Necromancer, Engineer
4. Elementalist
1. Guardian (since they can handle every role, healing tanking and insane dps
2. Mesmers, they are just insane
3. Theifs, insane dmg and great roamers and great at taking down points with only one defender
4.Engineer, great sustain vs a lot of classes and can survive a heck of a long time using bombs n kitten
5. every other class thats left. warriors necros eles and rangers aren’t that strong. id say they are what i see as “balanced” though the warriors dmg mechanic is kind of broken, since 100 swords can only be used infront of u and u cant move.
1. Mesmer, Guardian
2. Thief, Engi
3. Ranger, Ele, Necro
4. Warrior (lol @ the dude that put them first)
Based on their PvP performance in general.
For me, it would be like this:
1. Thief
2. Guardian
3. Mesmer
4. Warrior
5. Engineer
6. Ranger
7. Necromancer
9. Elementalist
Swap Mesmer and Thief and you have a perfect list, assuming we’re talking about 5v5 sPvP.
Hotjoin PvP:
1) Thieves
2) Mesmer
3) Warrior
4) Guardian
5) Engi
6) Ranger
7) Ele
8) Necro
Tourney PvP:
1) Guardians
2) Mesmer
3) Engi
4) Thief
5) Ele
6) Ranger
7) Necro
8) Warrior
IMO….Rank 20, mostly play Ranger and Guardian, mix of hotjoin and Tourney play.

1) Guardian
2) Engineer
3) Thief
4) Mesmer
5) Shortbow Ranger
6) Necromancer
7) Bunker Elementalist
8) Warrior
9) Any other Ranger build
10) Any other Ele build
1. Mesmer
2. Guardian
3. Thief
4. Engineer
5. Warrior
6. Ranger
7. Elementalist
8. Your grandma
9. Your dog
10. Your cat

…..
107. Necromancer
1. Mesmer
2. Thief
3. Guardian
4. Warrior
5. Engineer
6. Ranger
7. Elementalist
8. Necro
1. Guardian / Mesmer / Engineer
2. Thief
3. Ranger /Warrior / Ele / Necro
The third tier need more build options, debugging and buffs.
The first tier classes are actually not that bad and honestly how the other classes should be, some slight nerf at most unless the other class aren’t buffed to their level.
The thief… This class is only viable because a few skills are broken, even some minor nerf could pretty much kill the class instantly. I’d argue this class needs a huge overall be it nerf or buffs.
(edited by Puru.4217)
Mesmer, thief, guardian… there are no other classes.
1.) Mesmer/Guardian – Seriously? You would have to be a..ss if you can’t put anything to the table with these classes.
2-8.) Everything else.
1) Guardian – Over the top class, amazing defence combined with high damage, it’s like a warrior on steroids.
1)Mesmer (joint top), Low skill cap class, lots of get out of jail cards and still retains high damage.
2) Thief – Easy to play, high mobility, high damage. Goes down fast if focused though.
3) Engineer – Amazing defence/kiting ability yet can keep up a decent offence.
4) Necro – Well played necros are just very strong. Amazing team addition, with great synergy.
5) Elementalist – Depends on the spec, but i’ve played against some great ones, and some awful ones.
6) Rangers – Just not very good. The trap ones are ok at point defence 1v1, but bring any other player into the mix they fall over. Every other class (apart from 1) brings more to the table.
7) Warriors – Just no point. You have guardians. Warriors do less damage, are more squishy, less cc, less group utility, less useful abilities. They are easily shut down/snared off and have no decent ranged capabilities. HB is a joke outside of rush/frenzy combo. GS 1 damage is lower than 1H weapon 1 damage, yet you sacrifice 1 rune to use a 2H…
Horribly diplomatic but I’d take any class as long as the roles are filled:
Point Holder x2: Guardian, Necro, Engineer, Mesmer, Ele, Def Warrior
Roamer x2: Ele, Warrior, Thief, Mesmer, Ranger
Conditons/support x1: Thief, Necro, Engineer, Mesmer, Ranger, Ele
Bearing in mind the “support role” can be shared, synergy.
As long as the players are decent and roles are filled, I’d take anything. There’s not an order at the moment, but there is a big difference between good builds, bad builds, and how people use the builds.

Seafarer’s Rest

4.Engineer
5.Warrior
6.Ele (cookie cut)
7.Ranger/Necro/Ele
I’d rate engineers and thief about the same overall, but thief is best in role.
Necro/Ranger/Ele rated the same because all 3 of those classes are no where near the power level of the other 5 classes role for role. Ele effort vs outcome is way off (high skillcap, mediocre results). Necro and ranger both suffer from being outshined in any role by other classes.
Actually….I’m not sure why anyone would rate a ranger above warrior (which a few people have), when the class is inferior in every aspect.(not to say warriors are OP).
Hotjoin PvP:

I was gonna write up a post but this guy pretty much nailed it imo.
Coincidentally the best teams I’ve seen (either in-game or through their streams) run your first 5 picks in tourney pretty much religiously.
Necros can be decent bunkers when played right but… I dunno, I just feel that an engi can do the same as a condi/bunker while providing more fluid group dynamics. Warriors…. well, the only time they shine is ganking people in zerg pvp who don’t have their dodge/stunbreak available. Besides that they bring nothing to the table.
Yaks Bend
1) Guardian. Very great for defending nodes, can drag out battles for an eternity.
2) Engineer. Also incredibly defensible, while delivering some unexpected burst and control
3)Elementalist. Very strong burst and support, as well as good roaming ability.
4)Thief. Strong roamer, good supplement to a teamfight.
5)Mesmer. Great damage and support. Can stay alive for very very very long.
6)Warrior. Decent.
7)Ranger. Decent.
8)Necro. Eh..
Not sure about gw2 haven’t played much pvp outside spvp but in gw1 it would be:
1)Monk
2)Mesmer
3)Elementalist
4)Assassin
5)Ranger
6)Necromancer
7)Dervish
8)Warrior
9)Paragon
1. Mesmer: Dominates in control, dps, survive-ability, boon stacking, condition stacking, and damage mitigation.
2. Guardian: Dominates in burst, damage mitigation, boons, condition removal, and control.
3. Thief: Dominates in burst, highly mobile, and great escape mechanics.
4. Engineer: Dominates in survive-ability, damage mitigation, and control.
5. Ranger: Highly mobile, great single target DPS, great AOE damage, and solid escape mechanics.
6. Necromancer: Can apply some game changing conditions consistently, and survives most encounters in a support role
7. Elementalist: Too easily spiked in dps, and their support is rather lack luster.
8. Warrior: Mesmer,Thief, Ranger, and Guardian can single target DPS/AOE better, Ranger and Thief can roam better, and every other profession has better control, utility, and elites. Warriors are too obvious in their offensive roles, and lackluster in their support roles.
I tried all classes so as regards to playability in spvp:
1) Mesmer/thief/guard: dropping kittenes left and right without too much effort
2) Warrior/ranger/engi: need to pay more attention to get the same results as above classes
3) Ele: Need 2/3 defensive skills to not feel like a kitten
4) Necro: conditions+epidemic is fun but pray that no enemy pays attention to you
People really put warrior and thief over engineer?
yeah incredible that other peoples opinions can differ from yours right
yeah incredible that other peoples opinions can differ from yours right
Yeah im such a mean person. Asking those people why they did it…
Tried all apart from warrior … so the judgement on that class is based on discussions with friends I LAN with.
1) Thief/Guardian/Mesmer
2) Engineer/Ranger
3) Warrior
4) Necro
5) Ele

People really put warrior and thief over engineer?
A Thief by far out-damages an Engineer. The Engineer wins in point holding, but the Thief wins when something needs to die.

Well in every tournament I played thieves usually kill no one and a engineer can have insane burst if build for it.

Same order for me here! Necro is too situational to bring a real asset to a team. Same thing for Warrior. Could put the Mesmer first in the tPvP rank it depend of the map.
If i have to give an order :
1) Mesmer for sure
2) Thief
3) Guardian
4) Engi
5) Necro
6) Warrior
7) Ele
8) Ranger
But imo Mesmers/guardians/thieves are top tier and the rest is pretty equal/balanced.
1) guardian
2) thief
3) engineer
4) mesmer
warrior / ele / necro / ranger are pretty much equal imo but less strong than the above 4
Thieves kill no one in your tournaments? Your playing with some truly awful thieves then.
1) Guard/Mesmer – clearly the most powerful classes atm, easy to play, very stronk, good damage
2) Engineer/Thief – both powerful classes, engineer survivability build is excellent as well as thief burst being best in game.
3) Necro/Warrior – both classes have their problems (bugs and derpa derpa playstyle respectively) but both can be viable for spvp if played well.
4 Ranger/Ele – Both classes could use some balancing, ranger is a little weak and Ele while being very fun to play, feels like you have to use 3 buttons to get the same effect as any other class pressing 1 button. High skill cap, low reward with only 1 really viable build (support “untouchable” spec)
Most vital thing for ArenaNet to do imo is to FIX THE BUGS!
Having key skills bugged since beta is frustrating, reduces the volume of viable builds and generally pisses people off.

This !
Engineers is in the 8th place !
i see a lot of mesmers in the first places and guardians as well..i (ranger) am also having problem with this classes but i dont think thats a balance problem.i just working my builds and testing em till i find the most apropiate.im changing my playstyle and focusing more in my movement.i rly like that after all this time im still trying builds and im still finding something interesting in them.y i know the cond-shortbow-QZ build its rly good since you can kill anyone rly fast.but the point its not only killing someone fast.you can defend, you can roam, you can protect, you can support and so many other things.btw here my list
1.Mesmer
2.Guardian
3.Thief
4.Ranger
5.Warrior
6.Engineer

Judging off of their strongest tPvP builds:

7) Warrior
8) Necromancer
Tirydia – Scrapper
People know 1 or 2 specs for each profession, because they saw them on youtube. If they started toying with things by themselves, they would see a lot more potential in each profession.
This is just bogus. Most people have no idea what all professions are capable to do. When you say Warrior, they think “GS hurr hurr”, when you say Thief, they think “omg heartseeker spam”.
I would make the list like this:
1. Players who know how to combine Professions into a great combination and knows that the game is about teamplay.
2. Players who constantly think of how to improve their profession and learn what it is truly capable off.
3. Players who copy > paste a spec they saw somewhere else and think that they instantly become good players by doing so.
1. Guardian
2. Mesmer
3. Ele
4. Engineer
5. Necromancer
6. Thief
7. Ranger
8. Warrior
Properly specced in tPvP.
eek, i guess every class is going to post what classes give them the hardest time, but as it stands for me, i play a warrior main and thief alt (which was my first toon)
1. Warrior
2. Guardian (could also be first, but as a warrior i win vs guardians when we are left alone 90% of the time)
3. Mesmer (hard time finishing them off if they decide to play defensive)
4. Engineer (;sigh: stand on waypoint → spam landmines)
5. Ranger
6. Thief (usually can reflect all their alphas if my shield is up and have them kill themselves, very squishy class)
7. Necromancer
8. Elementalist
1. Thief/Guardian/Mesmer
2. The Hulk
3. Godzilla
4. Warrior / Engineer
5. Ranger
6. Ele
7. Bugs from Starship Troopers
8. Necros (after all they are the victims of the bugs)
9. Forrest Gump
10. A pile of rocks
11. The AI of necromancer minions (Forrest and the pile of rocks have a higher IQ)
1. Guardian
2. Thief
3. Mesmer
4. Engi
5. Warrior
6. Ranger
7. Necro
8. Ele
1. Guardian
2. Mesmer
3. Engineer
4. Thief
5. Warrior
6. Ele
7. Ranger
8. Necromancer
Ultimately, I believe 1-4 are pretty similar in terms of being as useful/powerful as they should be and 5-8 needing some work. Personally, I believe a really well played Engineer has the most potential but those are few and very far between.
1. Mesmer (really strong 1v1, great utility)
2. Guardian (some builds have both high defense and good offense)
3. Thief (can get quite far with their glass cannon builds)
4. Warrior (kittenload of damage when specced accordingly, otherwise…so so)
5. Engineer (some specs have amazing burst…but hard to generalize aside from that)
6. Rangers (nothing much to say really, they seem very average)
7. Necromancer (few and far between, they don’t seem that strong)
8. Elementalist (rarely a very threatening enemy, don’t know why)
Purely my opinions.

What are those arrogant people always assuming that people don’t know a kitten about what they are talking about?! And even if it is, why does that makes their opinion less valuable. Class design must be based on the mass, not on a handfull of elitist players.
mesmer, guardian, and thief all shine. warriors can shine, but not as much because they tend to only offer some burst and CC. Other than the first 3 classes, everyone else just seems kinda whatevers.
