Incentive to get a high score

Under the old system, where your team was either “favored” or “un-favored” to win a match by a certain percentage, you could avoid pip loss by trying to at least gain as many team points as possible. If you lost a game 400-500, there was still the chance that you would not lose any pips; in some cases you might even gain a pip for that loss. For many players, this change might mean there is no longer an incentive to keep fighting once a match is “seemingly lost” early on (such as from a 25-150 start). Sure, you might argue that the new “improvements” to matchmaking will fix this, but if history has shown us anything, it is that ANet cannot make a properly-functioning matchmaking system. I have a strong feeling that this change will ultimately cause a huge boost in AFK-ers."

There is no such thing as CUTTING YOUR LOSSES … you either win or loses its simple. That’s life so stop trying to SJF your logic into this game. And at the second poster, it won’t increase the amount of afk’er. You know what?? Because you get time out everytime you afk, like who want to get a 1 hour time out during league?

Salty much? I already said winning should be incentive enough, so this wasn’t necessarily for me, but for players who will give up easy. Staying afk isn’t the only way of throwing a match, they can purposely play bad or fight off points, so any incentive to keep people playing till the last minute is welcome in my book.
Pips aren’t the only way to incentivize this. You could get PvP potions or track progress. This way you reward the player without artificially climbing him up the ladder.

So now were going around catering to sore losers? That’s what we’re doing now? Ok thanks for info.
How about instead of giving people pips for losing a close match, we instead just don’t take away pips for losing a close match. That way, people don’t get artificially boosted for losing, but they don’t get penalized for being competitive and completing a very tight match (which suggests that they are in the right division).
im glad this feature is removed as it was to easy for people to just stack points and still not help the team get a win many times i see groups of people stood on 1 point waiting for the cap just to gain more points in hope they get a pip.
This assumes that the only way to quit a game is to completely afk it. I can effectively quit a game while still running around the map.
mmr is used, it will be used to find your teammates

I think rewarding players for trying was a good thing. Now most people will just afk. And this is a problem because i actually won a lot of matches (even silly like 500-499) that seemed to be pretty lost only because people were still trying to get higher score so they don’t lose pips.
I understand that matchmaking changed a bit but i think if your team reached certain threshold (e.g. 450) you at least shouldn’t lose pip. Then again i guess it depends on how close matches will be. problem with past 3.5 years was that most matches were lopsided.

Yeah, please add something. Like if you score 400, you don’t loose a pip.
Or, if the community thinks that’s too much then maybe reward bags with crafting materials or something. The higher you score, the more bags you get. This will also help PvP players be a little less poor. Best players in the game…worst gear :-)

Nope, I am totally against this. The only thing they should add is Afking in the report section.
Agree with OP completely.
