Incentive to win in hotjoin
Yea that happens a lot, but like you already know there is not as big a reward for actually winning as there is in the tournaments. There have indeed been plenty of times where I defended points and took points all round, and won the round, and it didn’t seem like I got as much glory as a few times when everything was just chaos and the round took a long time so I had more kills and actually ran off into nowhere to fight more than usual.
This sort of thing will always be a problem in MMO’s. One thing you cannot fix with coding is human behaviour. The rewards in GW2’s pvp are pure fluf yet people feel the need to max out their glory for the fluf anyway no matter the cost.
I myself , i dont even look at how much glory get per round, i just want a fun match.
The only way it will change is if they make the glory reward for winning a round outweigh the glory gained from the average amount of kills during a round for a decent player. I don’t know if I’d prefer that or not.
victory should be the sole determining factor for rewards. coupled with the change that gives victory bonus to volunteers who swap, this is all that is necessary to promote playing to win over playing to farm.
regardless, people will complain about anything in search of some impossible ideal.
the solution will come with custom servers. only play on servers where the community plays to win, & all of a sudden glory doesn’t mean much any more. ( it doesn’t mean anything now, but ppl are fooled into thinking it does )

Glory will always mean something because it’s the only indicator of progression in non-tourney games. It doesn’t matter that the progression isn’t power based – progression is progression.
But yeah, the solution has been repeated time and time again – more glory for winning, less glory for farming.
