So I have been running sword a bit lately in wvw and SPVP, and there are a few things that I have had the privilege to be infuriated at,, the pathing in savage leap in combat is absolutely terrible, I say maybe 25% of the time I hit my target (if I’m not blinded by this ridiculous blind spam). I’m running the sword with a leg specialist trying to take full advantage of the cripples.
Final Thrust cast time and animation are infuriating, the skill in combat just seems terribly unresponsive. THE ONLY way to land this skill is to hit flurry first. There is no kitten way you can land this ability on a moving target, its not happening, let alone someone spamming blinds and teleports, which makes this laughable at best. The cast time is to kitten long and the wind-up ( like ALL of our skills and nobody else’s) is ridiculous.
I have been nothing but frustrated with sword, savage leap jumping way the kitten over top of the target, or just even the target running towards you makes this skill miss all the time.
RUSH is completely pathetic as well on GS 5, it wasn’t fixed, in fact this skill almost never connects now.
ANET this is ridiculous.
Our animations are stupidly obvious when NO other class has such obvious animations. Our survivability is kitten, blinds are out of control.
This class doesn’t even belong in this game of teleport, evade, cripple chill, and blind spam. In fact it is embarrassing to be teleported around running around like a kittening dog trying to land these worthless gap closing abilities. It’s embarrassing chasing a thief or Mesmer while crippled only to finally get there and have the target teleport 900-1200 range away from you and by the time you fight through the Aoe and conditions they teleport back.

Uh, you can move while using final thrust, so unless your opponent dodges/blocks you should land it. And its huge damage so the windup is understandable. I’m landing 5k crits with it running a knights setup.
I don’t want leap changed either, yes you can miss targets below you, but I use this skill combined with death from above to blow apart groups of people. If anet changes it to angle the skill down it will lower the effectiveness of the skill for me.
I do agree that the rush style skills still need cleaning up, but I don’t find it nearly as bad as you make it sound.
Then again I find GS a rather selfish weapon to run in WvW, and I prefer Hammer by a long shot. GS offers no blast finishers, no stun, no knockback, and a single cripple.
I’m currently running sword/shield together with hammer. It’s the only thing I can run atm cause it gives A LITTLE survivability. And I agree that savage leap is pretty hard to hit. I usually use it as an escape ability. Or simply for more mobility. The only thing that is annoying me really hard lately is the amount of times I miss my skills. If the slow animation cast wasn’t bad enough already on hammer the blinds make it even worse..
If you are running GS atm I wouldn’t run it if I were you. I tried so many different things already just to land my hunderd blades or even get a decent whirlwind attack, nothing worked. Build i’m currently running is 0/0/30/10/30. Or 0/10/30/0/30 depending on what ulti I’m using.. Might seem weird. But it’s quite effective for me.

Greatsword > Bladetrail
I said GS had a single cripple, thanks for reading.
Look how true warrior fights.

Oh, well, the way I understood it you meant to say not a single cripple :p My bad.
Then again Hammer only has 1 cripple aswel.

I ran hammer in WvW and SPVP for a loong time I love hammer, but now it has even bigger issues than greatsword, blinds destroy the weapon, especially the now super buffed blinds. The cool downs on hammer are too long without the trait merciless hammer, and now with Cleansing Ire being in the same tier, the hammers issues really come to light. Hammer without the merciless hammer trait just feels like an incomplete weapon, skill 4 is worthless excelt in highly situational situations, and 30 sec cd on a single target backbreaker (obvious animation, with a huge wind-up) feels out of place. Earthshaker is amazing but the amount of blind spam, teleports, evasion spam, and stability going around makes it feel like a guessing game on whether the targets will be stunned or not.
Of course you can move with Final Thrust, but that doesn’t mean a clunky, bad skill is ok. Try landing final thrust on a Mesmer, or thief, or any class kiting you with ranged or cripple, and chill. It’s not happening.

Uh
warriors do not fight like that. That’s the movies for ya. If Spartacus really tried to fight like that he would have lost hardcore, early. This video explains it:

Different world….different warriors. Anyone can be a warrior…just join a faction, be a soldier in a war and fight upfront no matter what profession you are.
I know I know….logic hurts.
P.S.
Warriors can be magic users too enhancing their weapons / armor.

I do agree that blind really cripples warriors, but is that really a problem? Or is that a balance consideration and acceptable counter play.
IF your playing a GS warrior you are going to go in and out of combat and kill someone someone else is already fighting – not sticking around for long duels with an enemy. with the final thrust addition it added more burst on sword if you were using that weapon (bulls charge, HB, swap, burst, FT).
I don’t particularly have a problem with FT as long as it retains high damage. Its fine to be hard to land on good opponents.
Warriors issues come from an overall weakness to conditions, and low sustain in fights compared to other classes. Combined with weak evasion options warriors simply die too soon and too easily.
I do agree that leap/rush abilities need cleanup. Its obviously a tricky problem.

If the blind condition wasn’t use repeatedly then yeah I can say it is a balance issue. Therefore blind should have a diminish return mechanic for pvp only. It can’t be use on an opponent twice every 10 seconds.
Lets face it, blind destroys warriors badly even though all professions are in the same boat. They have an easier way of getting out of it better than a warrior.

Here’s the thing, I’m absolutely positive none of the warriors would mind blind being a skilled counter play option to the warrior class.
But.. As it stands now there is no skill required to counter warriors with blinds there is a difference between a thief using signet of shadows when he sees the earth shaker animation start, to a thief spamming blinds every 3 seconds he stealths, or with ever black powder shot (nothing personal against thieves just using them as an example).
There is no skill required now to completely shut down a warrior by just spamming low cooldown skills.
I agree with the rest of your points.

hahahahaha…
These guys needs meet some peoples in world history like Myamoto Musashi(Samurai), Spartaco(Gladiator), Leônidas(Spartan), Átila(Barbarian), Alexandre(Greek), Gengis Khan(Mongol), Maomé(Arabe), Audie Murphy(USA Army), Aleksander Nevsky(Russian), Simo Häyhä(The white death), Hiroo Onoda(Japan Soldier), Vlad Tepes III, and much more. All great soldiers, warrior, heros.
I think Anet need review his concept about warrior taking look in greats icons over history and mixing with mitical icons like Hercoles, Aquiles, Belerofonte, Ajax, and a lot more.
However, I guess the idea is warriors are from a different era. The world is changing, and is overrun by magic and technology. Personal strength and ability in combat count less and less. Warriors are already more like tactitian experts than like juggernauts or berserkers. They have to consider their position carefully, knwing they have more limits than anyone else in the battlefield.
IMHO it would make more sense if we were technologically/magically enhanced sodliers. Taking from everywhere to improve our combat prowess.

Well there is a Guardian for this ‘magic warrior’ thingy already.
Though steampunk-y mix of Warrior and Engi sounds quite awesome…

Well, Guardians use only one kind of magic. We should be more like tricksters, taking anything that might help us. Maybe more focused on technology.
And actually, we are already similar to engineers:
We shoot explosive arrows. Our entire longbow is like a bag of tricks, more than a weapon we use with superior dexterity.
Warrior needs focus on fisical/psicological/tactical training and improvements, mixing with weapon diversity.

Especially the Savage leap part. I mean seriously this is ridiculous. Maybe they should also put some extra super visuals to that skill, so that the person that warrior wants to leap at gets a flashy screen and lightnings start shooting from the sky, before warrior finally lifts of… Jesus man, seriously, that skill doesn’t even hit people standing 2 meters away from me, while they are simply just linearly moving… :S
Maybe Anet should make some kind of funny mini game, where people are standing on the edge of the cliff and warriors try to savage leap them. If warrior misses he falls off the cliff and into a lava pool. That would be funny! The warrior that hits his target tho, gets a candy medal and gets to participate at the next GW2 para-olympics!!!
Let’s all make fun of warriors YEAHAAAHAAAAWWWW!!

Original design of banners was to paint gruesome pictures on them and then plant them into your dead opponents orifices for their comrades to view. ArenaNet assumed this would force the other team to play worse because of how disgusting their corpses were treated.
Then PR got involved and figured it would be ‘PC’. Now we have no roll in PvP.

Subject to review.
The currently utility and elite skills has an effect very similar. Most of them are self or group buff.
Some skills could have their effects mix to one single skill, and a another and new skill could be add.
some skills could have their effects changed…

Good post and I agree. The animations for warrior are way too slow and awkward for a melee centric class. Only the longbow is a reasonable weapon right now, and good players can easily avoid arcing shot.
The argument put forward that our strongest moves are telegraphed the most because they hit hard is pretty kittened from Anet to be honest.
It gets to the point where if a competent player is focussing on you well enough they can dodge or stun break almost everything you can bring to the table
but final thrust’s animation is so bad and awkward plus you can barely see it with all other flashy moves from other profs. and it’s way too slow ,sometimes its not even worth using.
edit? actually no, final thrust’kittenbox is so bad, just missed some final thrust when the enemy is RIGHT at front of me and just walking left and right, pure bs

Leave the game. Take a break till ESO comes out. Mayhaps the devs will actually listen to the players there.
One year into the game and the war class is still the worst. Tells you lots of things about the competence of the class balance team.
New warrior shout:
“Exasperation :
5s Self-immobilize.
Warrior places hands on hips and shout “Oh, Brother!” while taking a healthy dose of reality. Allies within 240 range take 345 pity damage."
It’s funny how they buffed necro and what a lot of people don’t realize is that this was an indirect nerf to warriors. Warriors have always struggled with condition spam and it was nice to see cleansing ire but now that the class that can dish out the most conditions (the necro) was buffed, it is right back to square one for the warrior. Once a necro starts chaining conditions + fear on you it’s gg. You MIGHT have a chance if you’re slotting runes of the soldier + 2 shouts + shrug it off + signet of stamina active. But oh wait a minute, now you’re DPS is kitten so you won’t be able to take the necro out of the equation by the time his full flurry of conditions hits you again. And it’s also nice that they gave the necro torment, but it is most detrimental to melee classes which are always running after their targets with futility. So once again it’s full zerker build for me and I will try to do my best to take at least ONE down with me. Now we have to wait another 4 months before they get around to it again. By then FFIV will be out and you will lose a great deal of your player base. It might be too late now.
Why were you so afraid to buff warriors?
The devs haven’t even acknowledged how this last patch put the nail in the coffin for the warrior class in any type of pvp, and it’s infuriating.
Being a frustrated Warrior in SPvP is normal and “correct”.
Saying Warrior is the worse class is just half correct.
Saying it is weak is wrong.
As stated by other players in other threads, Warrior is the best balanced and designed class in the game. The problem is the design of other classes and the fact they keep getting improvements where they should be nerfed.
If developers will keep thinking “Warrior needs buffs” they will struggle with PVE team shouting “it’s pve-overpowered!” and nothing will be done.
The real solution is nerfing all other classes down because, right now, their mechanics are deeply unbalanced and, in some cases, broken.
I agree one of the huge downsides of the warrior is the predictable animations
And its huge damage so the windup is understandable. I’m landing 5k crits with it running a knights setup.
The lesser known OP power sword spec. This is the new meta.

Of course, that is true and we have acknowledged it many times lately. However the fact still stands. Savage leap is a joke. I expect skill to hit UNLESS someone uses DODGE at appropriate time.
Right now people don’t need dodge to avoid savage leap. They don’t need it at all…
But seriously, I’m just wondering, why on earth, a year after the game was released, still dwell on these forums as if Anet is suddenly going to fix anything.
Nope folks it’s been 11 months since release now, has the game balance improved? No.
And it never will.
Why? Because Anet will never acknowledge that a lot of stuff in this game is simply broken beyond repair, and should be just deleted and started from scratch.
And that is why their “slow and steady” approach to balance doesn’t work. Slow and steady works when you’ve got something that 95% resembles what your final goal is. Their slow and steady approach on GW2 however is something equivalent to a sculpturer making fine adjustments to a huge formless chunk of rock, that he wants to turn into a beautiful female goddess statue. It doesn’t work that way. You start with the basic form, and once that’s ok, you start doing fine adjustments.
There is hope though, this last patch is the first one that looked remotely anything like an actual patch to me. Maybe if they didn’t sit on their laurels being smug about putting out a big patch like that and actually put out more content like this we might actually make progress.
Does anyone know if we got mentioned in the SoTG? I was at work and had to miss it, but I am kitten ED to know what the devs have to say about us still being the very bottom.

Maybe its time to switch from the fantasy based warrior to a more sci-fi futuristic warrior.
Give em teleports, portal, stealth and combat shields! Heck give them night vision and infra-red heat seeking googles (or at least give a graphics mod for this, would be cool! Wouldn’t really serve any purpose though, just to look cool :P).
Do away with barbaric ancient weapons like the mace, sword, greatsword, warhorn, rifle and axe and replace with electric brass knuckles, light sabers, electrical whip, megaman arm cannon and futuristic assault rifle. Elite can be a summoned tank or golem that a warrior can climb into for some real pain on the battlefield!
Just saying, a futuristic warrior/soldier would be kitten cool. Probably wouldn’t fit into the lore of GW2 or whatever, but at least it would improve the welfare of warriors by giving them some useful services ala teleport and stealth!
Well this is probaby never going to happen, but I’m bored at work and daydreaming ….
