Initial MMR based on rank

Yes, we know that rank does not measure your skill very meaningfully. However it’s the most visible e/p/ee/n measuring stick that pvp has, and people are constantly complaining that they are being matched against high rank players with low ranked players in their team etc.
The problem comes from the mmr being introduced so late into the game. Moving forward, i think there needs to be a one-off adjustment made to everyone’s mmr.
every player with very few matches played start off with a low mmr, or have a very high “uncertainty” score in their mmr. This will make newer players tend to get matches together. However, those with high rank will get “seeded” with a lower uncertainty score or an mmr closer to “normal”, so they are more likely to get matches with each other and pvp veterans.
Over time everyone’s mmr will adjust to their true values and this adjustment won’t be needed anymore, but i think something is needed in the transition period to insulate newer players from experienced ones.
As for low population issues affecting match making, I’ve always said that matches should begin on a fixed schedule (eg. Every 15 mins of the hour), this means those that have just finished a match need to wait till the next scheduled match before they can play again. This concentrates all the players to be queuing at the same time, increasing the pool of players available to the matchmaking system.
