Hi people, its Henry here again, how we all doing?
Anyway, I had a few interesting ideas of how to nerf thief in ways that promote counterplay. I also believe these changes will make more fun and rewarding for thieves. So everybody wins.
Here are the changes:
1, Withdraw cool down increased to 25 seconds – healing buffed by 10% to compensate
2, Headshot – increased cast time to 1 second
3, Shadows refuge – cast time increased to 1 second
4, Chill now effects initiative regen
5, All thief weapon skills are increased by 1 to correct the error made when initiative was buffed
These are changes I have researched in an extremely in depth way. I did some research from a pool of thieves and 86.4% of them said these changes were either “amazing” or “really amazing”. As such, these changes should have priority with anet because of the research I have put into them.
More to come shortly. I am in the process finishing up my elementalist research and the results on this research could be remarkable to be honest.

You can’t fix thieves by nerfing them, Anet tried that it failed, thieves are broken OP because of their core design and mechanics, thief has already had more nerfs than most classes and the result of that is… in a game with 5 slots and 8 classes thief has had a permanent slot on nearly every team for the entirety of the game, and still does & thief is still a big problem for most other classes when it comes to zerker builds, the nerfs changed neither of these things.
Giving a class the best engage, best disengage, best mobiity, a lot of skills with low cast times (or none), skills that are spammable with no cooldown that do one of the most idiotic things I have seen in a game that is render skilled play (interrupts) as borderline useless, high burst, that other than the lame fresh air ele, is far less telegraphed than most other classes (e.g compare to mesmer shatter, static discharge, etc), huge access to the most powerful mechanic in a game (stealth), etc, is just a monumentally bad design.
Continuing to nerf thieves until they are useless is not the answer, the only way to fix thieves is to redesign some core aspects of the class, but don’t hold your breath actual problems in this game don’t get fixed they get papered over, which is just one of the reasons why PvP has such a huge playerbase, so when there are 9 classes available, still expect there to be a thief taking one of the five slots on every team and learn that is what is known as “balanced” in this game.

1) i think 20s would be wnough, or with new changes 25s + the CD reduction trait. Wither way, increse Vamp rune bonus CD
2) headshot – should remain same, its annoying but even as necro main it should stay, the blind one is far more annoying. also whenever thieves fail and have to double headshot its a big waste for them
3) huh, no prob with this one, idk what a cast time would help
4) yes please, should have been so since always
5) would be nice for a week, but then thief would be deleted….which maybe wouldnt be so bad after all

just do 1 of these and delete/dont allow Shadow arts in new traits next week.
really everyone hates Shadow arts, its why wvw have 0.00 respect , its boring and sidewheel easy cheezy and most important – no counterplay and boring to play against.
also surprised for now sbow changes,
to answer the 3 year old question: "hmmm guess our team needs a thief, where do we get one – and one that needs to be better than enemy thief ? "

Thats why they need a little rework to add counterplay and bring them in line with everyone else. Chill affecting ini will break thief and yet it wont add any counterplay to interrupts still
Thief should get applied updated energy system from revenant;
-Utilities now cost small amount of ini
-Some weapon skills that are obviously strong should have a short cd (between 2-5cd) to prevent it from spammingThis way it will force thief to think what hes doing and he will also be affected by chill and interrupts from mes.
Like for example inf arrow entering on 2cd after each use.

So what’s the idea? Instead of making other classes heal skills more viable, let’s just nerf them all to one, because it’s easier and faster?
