EU has a solid team comp while NA doesn’t have a Guardian. Hmmm….

EU is a team, and pretty much everyone can play every class well, but teams dont really need a guardian especially against that eu team comp. Like eu has almost nothing that you would want stab for other than earthshaker if rom even runs hambow. More burst would work really well against them, instagib the mes, ele, or thief and you pretty much win the teamfight.

Strong ele from EU who occasionally plays on NA. He also regularly streams on twitch. When I say he is from EU I mean he primarily plays on EU, but I think he lives in the US which is probably why he was on the US roster.

Just seems odd that a player with 45 solo queue games and ~150 team queues would be an “NA All-Star” compared to I AK or Marvin with nearly 10K games.

Either way, should be fun watching NA get stomped! I don’t think there’s a comp with those 5 players that would hold up in NA team queue let alone against a legitimate Euro team.

Here I thought the entire point of this tournament was to make spvp look good and generate some interest in it. Why would you pit an established team against a pug then? Who’d want to watch that?

The voting didn’t matter. ANET picked the people they wanted. Oh, and they left a number of all-stars off the list simply because someone at anet got rekt.

I viewed the whole thing as more of an exposure opportunity than anything else. That being said, everyone on that list is helpful to the community by either streaming or making themselves available to other players.

All are good representatives of the game.

I don’t know all the players, but this was done by votes and I’m sure the people that have written “class guides” and have done more than just queue up a lot would be more likely to get voted in.

Side note: A-net, please send Blu regardless.

Didn’t someone say they would start up a donation fund to get Blu to gamescon if he didn’t make it via voting?

Well there would be little to no community without Blu doing what he has done as far (TOL, weekly tourneys, 2v2s, 3v3s etc…).

Is there some long line of people behind Blu ready to jump in and do what he does? So if not him, then who?

He has been the platform so far for teams to show what they can do when there wasn’t another.

It would probably be better if that failed too. I think we reward mediocrity too much in this community because we have a hard time getting much more, given the state of the game. Blu is a pretty terrible shoutcaster who’s often missing very basic calls.

Blu is the only reason why this game has tournaments every week.
Blu is the only reason why gw2 gets more than 500 viewers sometimes.

basically it means that there are known players from different teams playing with each other…apparently guys like fake and others didn’t deserve to play because team mist got pushed by blu etc and now we have the full roaster play at lan..

I just wanted to point out how anet doesn´t stick to what they say. I even put a laugh behind it, but you don´t seem to get irony. First they find an excuse to not invite you and kitten you over and now by using this void voting system they kitten over all other players.

To everyone crying about the voting process and insinuating foul play – For the love of Jebus please desist with the drama queen act and realize that spreading unsubstantiated allegations is not the adult way to voice your discontent. If you truly enjoy playing GW2 pvp and would like this game to grow, try toning down the sodium and being productive for once in your lives. Stream your gameplay, write guides, educate newbies. The surly Swede is a master tier troll, there is no denying that. His online personality is about as grounded as the International Space Station. It’s equally undeniable that he has done quite a bit for the community though his stream and video guides, so it’s not as if all of his antics are condescending or disruptive. I have actually received constructive advice on his stream chat on at least two separate occasions, during neither of which I was abused too excessively. Meaning I only cried a little.

I expected this when watching the ToL qualifiers. It was riddled with vote for Team Mist. I am not sure how entertaining it’s going to be watching a team who is overly comfortable with one another verse a team who isn’t.

I am not going to call foul play on voting, it is what it is. I hope that it is entertaining, but I have my doubts. I will say that if it is a stomp then it will probably do more harm than good for this community. I hope I am wrong.

the voting should have been restricted to once per account to rule out any foul play. Still really annoyed with anet for not sending blu to cast, but there are so many disappointments with the game at this point that I can’t be surprised.

I’m not even interested in allstars because it should have been a match between apex and tm, now it is just tm vs not a team, although I still think that na has a chance if they practice for 2 weeks together.

I think i’ve come across Phantaram here on NA maybe 3-4 times that I can remember here. Correct me if i’m wrong, but I don’t remember ever seeing him on any team in the Mistpedia weekly or ToL for NA either. So… I just don’t understand why he is on the NA side when imo he should have been on the EU voting list. I would have liked someone I see actually playing in NA get the spot. I want someone to actually represent NA, and someone who shows dedication to playing on our side of the fence. I guess that’s what happens when EU is allowed to vote for NA as well.

Phantaram was quite big at launch. He has mostly played on EU however as he lives in the states he is on the NA roster. It doesn’t knock the fact that he is still a great ele…but two on one team.

Guys don’t underestimate china, if you watched the elite tournament on arena.khongzong.com you would know those guys definitely know how to play, they also got slowmotion clips of sizer in there so i guess they know what to expect.

Do you play on the Chinese servers? Didn’t think so. I do and at this point am tired of linking my PvP record there so I won’t bother.

They’re not taking it seriously and they are extremely far away from competing with even percentile pugs.

Half of their tournaments to date were actually hotjoin style where you join a random team and get a praise if your team won and you got another prize of you had a higher personal score…

If they score more than 20 points I am already fully convinced it was rigged so as to not completely humiliate and embarrass the players of their region.

If you ask me, there should’ve been an option ‘type in players name’.

Not sure if these guys that made this tournament are from USA but in USA when you go vote for a president they give you options but also give you an option to write in some random persons name that you think is best.

Also I was thinking, I think it was Caed or someone else but somebody said ‘Everyone knows me in pvp but when I leave hearts of mist nobody knows me’. Well just thinking if they did leave an option for you to insert name, I wouldn’t be surprised if some WvW commander or somebody that PvE’s came in and was considered a pvp allstar rather than some of these guys. There is a lot of good WvW and PvE players out there.

Also the fact that active PvP community is like 3000 people, due to streams not getting that many viewers. Than you got the PvE WvW community like 300000 people.

I’m on JQ server and I don’t pve wvw that much but there’s a commander named cloudfly, hes pretty good and people know who he is and he leads massive zergs to victory on jade quarry. I’m sure if he was on the all star team he’d lead a massive zerg to watch this all star game.

phantaram is no mesmer he playes ELE and he played in team paradigm (later Team Curse) with Xeph, Teldo, Azshene and Symbolic and it was first and only gw2 team which got sponsored

There’s very little doubt in my mind that China will eventually dominate these tournaments. My guess is they have way more competition than the US and Europe because the game launched in a not-terrible state.

They don’t have a competitive scene due to a variety of circumstances. This is why I personally don’t think the scene formed:
-They saw how the competitive scene here was treated
-The VIP system they have which they are obsessing over, encourages them to focus more on PvE since it greatly rewards you for completing every option of the daily.
-There is a curfew for anyone under 18 (pretty sure it’s 18). I think it’s an anti-gaming addiction law where if you are below 18 the game forces you to stop playing that day after 2 hours of being in game. This cannot be bypassed since you need an ID to register for an account.

There are a few other reasons which I feel contribute to the lack of a competitive scene over there but these are the major detractors.

So even if they wanted to field a competitive scene it’s 30 min Qs 24/7 and when you do get a match its ridiculously easy to beat people who don’t know how to dodge. That being said, if you want to improve in that environment how are you going to do it when there’s 0 competition?
