Interrupts shouldn't damage
I agree very much with this. I think that having “on-interrupt” traits in-general isn’t great design in the case of:
-Chaotic interruption
-Halting strike
Just interrupting “something” is pretty easy. As long as the opponent doesn’t have stab or a block, just randomly pressing “stun” (like the daze mantra) doesn’t require timing to hit something. Things like bountiful interruption are fine, because those are pretty defensive.
Power-block however, is a pretty cool trait in that it rewards skillful use – locking out a specific skill you don’t want your opponent to have access to. While auto-attacks, resses, and stomps might be a bit much, I think being able to lock out all other skills is great.
It’s a shame they made thieves immune to the effect of this skill, as they are the ones mesmers would most like to target with such a design.
No they SHOULD damage. Cry of frustration used to damage in GW1 as well as power block back in the day.
Anyone claiming interrupts are ‘easy’ is laughable, let alone the sheer number of interruptable skills due to no cooldown or unblockable there is stability. If you’re getting interrupted constantly, says more about your bad and predictable play.
In any case, hardly anyone is going to be taking power block after this hotfix. So you can rest easy and continue mashing the same keys without any strategic thought.
Actually interrupting something meaningfull is quite hard in this game since there aren’t any cast bars, plus all the chaos effect from particles and all that, so using them “randomly” is the only way to play them
Interrupt spam? All mesmer interrupts have a high CD afaik. Also running Halting Strike means sacrificing one of Mental Torment/Shatter Concentration- both being great traits.
Without damaging interrupts, Lockdown Mesmers would be awfull, as they would lacke a lot of damage.
In addition, Interrupting “key skills” is often rly hard in this game (no castbars, effect spam, asuras) and also often impossible (Healing Signet, Withdraw, Shelter, Flanking Strike).
This post is just… Wut? lol No interrupt mesmer is one of the highest skill cap builds in the game hands down….

Did you actually read his post, or rather the first 2 lines before jumping to conclusions?
>what’s this? oh no someone is insuling MUH CLASS gotta DEFEND M Y HONOR ON THE FORUMS
He said that landing interrupts to interrupt key skills is incredibly skillful. The problem is damage based interrupts are incredibly easy to just spam/luck your way through. Everyone in GW2 is ALWAYS doing something. Nobody just stands there like some hyper-tactical game waiting to make their next move, because even autoattacks do heavy damage. If you just use an interrupt at a random time there’s a 95% chance it’ll hit someone swinging their sword like a maniac. That’s bad.
Do you pat yourself on the back whenever you interrupt a ranger autoattacking?
really bad engineer
perplexity runes are pure evil and must be banished to hell as players using them.

THE MANTRA IS REAL
You seriously overestimate the amount of abilities in this game that have cast times. A person in the mesmer forums dedicated some time to make a pretty comprehensive list here. Interrupts sound good on paper, and I find it to be a fun playstyle but they are simply a faded shadow of GW1 mesmers. There aren’t that many game changing abilities you can interrupt to begin with, and out of the ones you can interrupt, half of them have 1/4 second cast times or very hard to read animations. You say interrupting heals is important, but there are only 3 professions that use heals with clearly interruptable cast times normally. The only thing that even makes interrupting worth it are the traits. Since immobilizing can be a big deal, putting stomps/rezzes/AA’s on cd is very useful and being able to do a little more damage for nailing an interrupt can feel rewarding. Although we don’t really have a way to “spam” interrupts like you’ve stated there are ways for us to chain interrupt people. You should also be aware that once most of those are used they go on a considerable cooldown the lowest being our daze mantra with its minimum 2 charges that you can use consecutively every 5 seconds. Although they have a 32sec cooldown once they’re used.

I agree, and tbh it’s still one of the lowest ‘reward’

Halting strikes is fine, you don’t like it don’t equipt it.
The entire game is pretty much aoe spam/ condis – complains about random interrupt
