Before I go into topic. There was this suggestion I’d like to note. someone (I forgot who) suggested tournaments that are used right now should replace the hot join feature …..as hot joins will eventually be replaced with custom arenas.
Anyways this isn’t a QQ thread just my insight…Tournaments as they stand in spvp for me at least aren’t really tournaments. You can play them all day long and are basically seen to me as a “regular mode”.
No real incentive to play spvp “tournaments” when you play the same tournament over and over with such little rewards other then maybe the competitiveness or leveling your rank. Honestly…. its getting pretty dull.
The point I’m trying to make is what if paid tournaments return(wait..bare with me).
Paid tournaments could work like this:
Instead of playing a paid tournament whenever I felt like it…..why not have paid tournaments at allocated times. Say every Friday/Saturday? Teams could be able to queue up during the week and pay their way in with glory. This could allow spvp players something to look forward to(if the paid tournaments offered better rewards).
This system could implement your rating/ranking system or whatever it is to its fullest potential. Casual players could que themselves with people of similar rankings and fight teams with similar rankings.
Before I tell you how this could be successful let me tell you why paid tournaments failed.
The top 3 reasons why paid tournaments failed:
1. Casual players didn’t want to waste their hard earned tickets to get “out ranked” in these tournaments.
2. The fear of paid tournaments “belong to only serious competitors”
3. Tickets themselves
With this new found ranking system (which I see a lot of potential in) why not use it in a way that will allow spvp players to have something to look forward to then just playing the same old free “tournaments” over and over. That’s just boring (at least for me anyway)
These once a week tournaments could offer incentives to play them like laurels…gems(not a lot to mess up economy)…….or maybe unique skins? And because their once a week this can maybe get some players excited and start practicing during the weekday.
The reason I find this could be successful is because I myself witnessed older games that used this method with maybe only 2k players active and it was really fun.
