Is Joining "Glory Farm" Servers Bannable?
I hope so (if not account ban, at least a Mists ban).
Well, not for just joining, but for extended participating, you have to no that it is not intentional and that you are abusing game mechanics.
No, it shouldn’t be. It is their system that is failing. If they had a big enough problem with it then they should have fixed it by now (if it was important enough it would have been).
No, I do not condone the practice. No, I do not partake in this kitten nonsense, but see above.
The easiest/best way to gain glory should have never been in hotjoin anyway. It needs to be and should have always been tourny play – and by that I mean a significant margin.
- Edited – I was reading some of the responses, and apparently I can’t spell the correct form of “their” today. I did that at work in an email (twice) too, and caught it just before I sent it out lol. Meh, it happens.

Kind of agree with this guy. Rank farming is stupid. I can’t understand why people do it, but I would still argue that they aren’t violating the EULA or anything. It is a goofy thing to do, and I would never do it, but whatever.
I would say no it’s not bannable, but at the same time don’t be surprised if they change hotjoin to prevent glory farming.
In other words if you’re going to do it, you’d better get started.
Priorities, what to do?

So right. Couldn’t be said better.

The Terms of Service say that arena.net can do almost whatever he wants. They could say that this was an exploit of an unintended feature and ban, but i think that it is highly unlikely, a huge number of players leveled some or most ranks by farming in these hot join, that means they will need to ban a huge number of players.
It’s more likely that they will try to fix in some way the issue, but if u farmed rank 50 with it, they won’t do anything to you (feel free to farm ranks).
“Influencing the final result of a match intentionally, or using an exploit to influence a match can be punished with a ban.” -terms of conditions.
Rules are only rules when they apply to everyone. I can’t blame the people doing it. They paid with their money to buy that customised arena. They can set it up as they like. If you allow them the option to influence end results, then that option should have never been part of the customized arena. It just shows that developers haven’t spent much significant time in game(This is not say they’re doing nothing.) and this one has gone largely unchecked.
Also, if people are buying arena’s just for this purpose..well, conflict of interest for a-net…make money/adhere to terms and not make money…
It should be. Those servers are made to exploit the system to gain ranks faster than you’re suppose to do – which is what I call exploiting.
They should just remove glory from hot joins and delete all glory earnt in hot joins since release. That would fix it.
Its pvp, no one from anet cares about pvp so go ahead and farm away. But if it was PvE buying something for karma and selling it for gold, well that is a different story altogether – they blocked mail service to stop gold from spreading, they permanently banned players that did it (some even had no idea it was an exploit) and it was solved in few days.
How much do they get in Glory farm servers?
they can get about 10k a hour if they do it right Alkaholic

OMFG THAT IS UNkittenINGACCEPTABLE. I mean, I quit playing 3 weeks ago to a month. Now, I really don’t want to come back. Even if they do fix PvP. Who wants to see garb players rank 50. While you earned your rank. SMH!!!

WAT?!?!?!
I’m halfway thru 49 (the normal way) and recently have only been doing the daily pvp to get laurels since I was burned out but I may do this to get to 50.
Please don’t look down on me. :’(

Hey man, do what you got to do. I mean, if people want to look how good you really are, they could pay attention to the leader boards…oh, wait..nevermind.
Anet probably won’t ban for this because the amount of players that have participated. I’ve also seen really high ranked people farming too (leaderboard).

Well, I think they would if they cared. In Gw1 over 3000 people were banned in one day for this same shiz. Inventing the infamous Dhuum. I remembered seeing him coming out of the ground to slice your face off then incoming ban. Ouch. Those were the days.
MMO rule #1:
“exploit early, exploit often”
They should be more concerned that players want the rank and finishers but don’t have any interest in playing the actual game because it’s boring for 90% of the playerbase. That’s the true problem.
How is this accomplished? I screenshotted a 500 glory game once from sitting on the cannon in an 8v8 but wow @ 1000 glory for whatever they’re doing. I guess my 5000 win title will have to suffice…
They were warned of this prior to implementing CA’s. They said then, it wouldn’t be a problem and they had safe guards in place to assure it didn’t. To that we get to…LOL
10k glory a game… they all go to skyhammer in mid underneath all hit each other then fall down, rinse repeat easy 10k a hour. Specially if it is 8v8 think about it. 15 a kill x8 is 120 per death. if they let the match go out the whole time thats a easy 5k… maybe a match.

They don’t ban for anything unless it affects their precious PvE economy. I still see the same fly hacking going on from the same guilds who used it to steal WvW orbs during head start.
If they’re not going to ban people I’ve reported for using no cooldown hacks, they’re not going to ban for glory farming.

no cooldown hacks? you mean thief class?

No, I mean the no cooldown hacks. If you pay attention in fights and know the cooldown of skills, you’ll notice people using skills again way before they should be off cooldown. I was just chasing an ele last night (yes, despite cheating he still had to run away), and he used RTL twice in a span of less than 8 seconds (I used RTL to follow him and air attunement wasn’t even off cooldown yet before he used a second RTL).

The rewards are utter trash.
I don’t think anyone can care about ‘abusing for them’ short of for the sake of rainbows and sunshine morality…
If the rewards where halfway decent and meant something to people… it would be a different story… but this is GW2 we are talking about.
If someone wants to spend mind numbing hours on end grinding for the kitten Anet gives you… by all means, they deserve it at that point.

^ pretty much sums up the situation.

I’m wondering since everybody is saying they get 10k/hour and since nobody brought this up but did you know that in a single game you can only get a maximum of 300 RANK POINTS. Once you have 300 points, every glory you earn will count towards glory, but will not add up on your rank bar at the bottom. That’s why it will always say Max Rank Bonus 300 at the end of the match at the right of your screen. Something else that really annoys me, and also not much people know is, when you are going for Ransacker/Marauder/… tournament win chest rank points do NOT count towards this title, you really get punished for playing tournaments.
if it’s not then it should be. They should at least take action on the accounts that set these abuse servers up.

Yes, but once you leave and rejoin a match, the 300 point max is reset.
Yes, it is bannable, read the EULA.

If it is bannable, should it be a temporary ban or a permanent one?
This skyhammer map should definitely be removed, or at least fixed. That would solve the problem easily.

Doing that for 2 let’s say 3 ranks it’s fine imo, even more at high ranks like 50+ when things start getting really long….problem is that many ppl farmed from r10-20 to 50+ (And even 60) and that is stupid as kitten. Anyway farming hotjoin zergs all day is not really better…since that’s a pretty cheap way too…just not as rewarding as skyhammer was before nerf.
Btw i still see farming arenas on sometimes but i really don’t get how are they doing it now since rank points are win related and one team is always going to get way less points..

Is it lame? Yes.
Is is bannable? No
Most importantly, who cares? The only thing rank means is that someone has played a lot. It does not mean they are good or anything else. So in the end, who cares?
I don’t think you can get banned in PvP without trying really REALLY hard.
(edited by garethh.3518)
Anet Developer should says if it is banable or not instead of leaving people wondering about it.
I would guess they do not say anything simply because they do not like it but will not do anything about it and are preventing many more from doing it out of fear for ban.
But the real problem is bad desing and speed of fixes which allowed people getting so many points in hot join in the first place.
There’s been a pvp exploit in gw1 as well to get your pvp rank/title up very fast.
It was bannable in gw1 so it should be the same for gw2.

People don’t get banned in this game unless they want to be.
And even then… it can be tough at times.
I’ve seen people teleport hack for months on end, being reported, 2, 3 times a match.
A person was intentionally afk-ing in matches for weeks on end just straight up trolling…
It took a 2~ forum threads DEDICATED TO HIM and a new forum dev for anything to happen.
Lol at anyone who takes GW2 bans seriously.
A-net encourages exploiters so there is no punishment.
