Is Skyhammer farming actually an offense?
It looks very much like match manipulation to me, but on the other hand Anet might not want to ban or upset those who supported them by renting custom arenas.
Once they allow Glory to be spent on something useful, it will.
Well, upcoming Legendary skins in pvp… o.-
It just sucks that the only thing we have in pvp to aim for is rank and there’s people out there cheesing it this way, how sucky
Even people that farm will take forever to get higher ranks. The whole system need to be changed. So many complaints against this yet you are the same people that say 2+ years to get rank 80 is a bit much. Make up your mind. You want faster levels or no?

Theoretically, it should be. Players are abusing the system to attain 900 rank points per match (earn 300 points, leave, rejoin, repeat. There is a limit of 300 rank gain – anything above 300 is just glory points).
The sad thing, however, is that rank and glory and all of the rewards in PvP are so meaningless right now that it doesn’t even matter when players are abusing the system. That’s the state of the game. This is a great example of why 8v8 and 10v10 hot join is so meaningless; Skyhammer farming is just the concept of hot join taken to the extreme – earning points and not caring about learning or improving in skill.
I’ve said this over and over again, but why is the casual mode in this game an 8v8 or 10v10? No other competitive game is like this. League of Legends’ casual mode is a 5v5, ranked mode is a 5v5, and team ranked mode is…guess what…a 5v5. Every e-sport game has their casual mode matching with their ranked mode in terms of team sizes in order to facilitate growth, learning, and competition, so why is ArenaNet going in reverse?

No, I don’t want faster levels, I want all people to earn rank the same way so that it actually means something
To be honest I think the sPvP is being carefully looked at. If you remember from the beginning of the year, they noted there will be focal improvements in sPvP and tPvP.
To date we’ve seen ladder implementations, some maps, and cosmetics. But the underlying system I think is up for some thought too. If you count the actual participation level during peak hours it seems like it could improve. So how do you do that?
Personally i would hope to see some major improvements to the system, coupled with add’t styles of play released via expansion. Like ‘hey- ho customers, you spoke, we listened… this expansion ($ will open the surround pve maps/sorrows furnace whatever…. while adding – isle of champions or hall of heroes). Whatever you feel is the right kinda lure system to pull players into this aspect of the game if ya follow my drift. I’m just giving examples. It just seems dead right now, but I would hope this improves.
Hell, I think our Mists map has more people queueing for WvW then actually joining any form of a battle. I like the improvements to date (since compared to release) and hope for some means to attract the populus to play more. I mean there are really great players in here, that basically just farm the small handful of newer casual players like myself. I want to rank up, but the system at the moment feels like a time waste. I ask myself … should I hot join, or wxp lvl an alt … I’d rather it not even be a question, in fact I want to log in at the mists, similar to the hall of heroes (heroes ascension) was nightly. It was a great community and fun objectives/reward system.
Farming ranks points, doesn’t make a player good. So if in the long run you matched 2 equally ranked teams up based on rank (1 rank farmed, 1 rank earned) … guess who would win? So i don’t think it’s a problem.
personally i think the damage is done, speaking from experience from WoW this is basically win trading and they gave out bans and disabled/reset any progress the exploiters/offenders did.
but GW2 has left the blind eye to it for to long and people have grinded far to high via this skyhammer, if there is no punishment then fixing skyhammer won’t work. People have exploited for to long and will not want to go back to grinding the old way and will find new means of exploiting such as Node swapping like the previous exploiters were doing.
tl:dr – A-net needs to punish people or it won’t stop. Also shame on you A-net for letting this happen.
People will always find a way to farm pvp rank/glory/whatever. In GW1, people used the /dice command to deside which party has to /resign. After taking that away, people used the /rock /paper /scissors emotes. After disabling these emotes in PvP, the infamous Red Resign was born.
I really want to get Skyhammer fixed and the worst offenders banned, but I’m sure it won’t take long until the glory farmers find another way to exploit pvp arenas.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.
Forget the farming in hotjoin, having the map in solo q is the real offense. They’re well aware of the farming, so if they haven’t said or done anything about it, and then decide to toss out bans (alla snowflake catastrophe) they’d lose too much from the already dwindling pvp population.
Well since noone is exploiting game errors or bugs or hurting public ladders or economy we can’t call this exploit at all, this is not RR, there’s no ladder for hotjoin and noone gets “hurt” by this…sure it’s lame but we can say the same for those failing events on purpose or capping at night in wvsw while everyone is asleep (Well night cap is even worse cause THERE IS a wvsw ladder and those are negating bonuses to other servers too) Anet made the mistake to give ppl crap skyhammer map with istant-death mechanincs allowing ppl to die faster…noone can blame someone else because he jumps from a cliff, i can even go tpvp without weapons and naked if i want too…sure i would be an idiot and it would be lame for my team…but exploiting it’s different. Solution? Delete skyhammer already (Np with that it’s a crap map anyways and noone likes it, pretty much like capricorn) …no way to farm fast glory without istant death, ppl will still farm like many did since start (Circle capping, aoe on full team then swap and the same on the other and so on..) all those r70 (And i mean every single one r70) and many 65+ do this everyday from start, skyhammer just gave it a boost with his stupid istant death..ppl are gonna farm no matter what you do…it’s up to you giving something more attracting than mindless farm..like good rewards for tpvp, new modes and so on. You can’t just put a crap reward system, no incentives on playing tpvp and insane amounts of honor needed for high ranks and pretend ppl not to use the fastest way to get there…give ppl other ways, many if not all will leave farm fests. Right now this is just the result of YOUR errors anet, you got what you deserved…nothing more nothing less. Give more kittening attention to pvp and pvpers already instead of fixing commands and kitten like that…this is not gonna work…everyone knows this..
And maybe an answer from devs would be really appreciated.
