So after going thru a few pvp matches today, I have to ask, is the pvp really balanced? I know there are a few issues here and there, but what I’m really wondering is how other people view it. Personally, I don’t think so cause all I seem to face in matches are thiefs and mesmers. Mesmers aren’t such a problem, but thiefs were getting annoying after awhile. Like the ability for them to cloak and then finish you off. And then even in 1v1 against them, they had to stun lock me once and 3/4 of my health just disappears in a flash after a few hits. Or how guardians just use aoe attacks that send me flying and then another attack that sends me flying and then a third one. You think after the second one there would be a stability to prevent you from flying from the third one? Then rangers being in a downed state and their ability to have their pet heal doesn’t work half the time. What is everyone else’s opinion on this?

While there are some definite imbalances in the pvp in this game, from reading your post, I think you honestly just need to play more. Feeling like everything but what you play is op generally points to a lack of experience more than anything else.

This game is not particularly forgiving to new players, both in terms of mechanics and the fact that there’s no real matchmaking to keep beginners from being matched vs. veterans.

Hasted backstab combo is the only thing in this game that screams not right. Good lord that’s fast.

For everything else their is mastercard.

It is pretty balanced. From your post it sounds like you play ranger. When you find the right builds and get experience you will be fine, ranger can be really good in hot-join and backstab thieves don’t pose much of a threat depending on your build.

I could write an essay on this but I’ll just point out three things that may help if you don’t already do it:

For downstate I suggest bringing a wolf along, it gives you up to 3 interupts (4 if you have another dog as well) when you are downed which is quite handy. If you are BM you can win one on ones from downed state even.

If you use a sword practise the jump back, turn around and jump further away gap opener- very good for escaping. Use the sword evade when thief goes invisible near you to dodge incoming backstab. Use evade when you are immobolized and people are beating on you.

Use RAO whenever you have to fight a guardian or engineer, its nearly an IWIN button against builds that rely on knocking u down to damage you.

Finally, its good to play against people that are higher rank than you because you can learn how to play properly. There is no gear gap like in Rift etc where rank 1s get demolished by rank 8s just because of the uber gear. Don’t hate on the great system, just get more skilled and you’ll be fine.

Ya, I know what you mean. I started when the game was pretty new so it wasn’t as bad for me, but when I do hotjoins now, the games are pretty much filled with rank 20-50s and the few sub 10s generally get slaughtered. There’s really nothing you can do about it but grind through it until you can hold your own.

You are totally correct. Balance is currently very crappy and about as balanced as you could expect a beta game to be balanced.

I find it difficult to identify if something is OP or not because I’m bad. Majority of the time I die because I made an oopsie and my opponent cut my head off.
