Q:
Is it just me?
1. You only have a 10% impact on the outcome of a match. win some, lose some. just go on and dont stop. if you are good you will definitely climb the leaderboard
2. your personal rating (MMR) which is calculated based on the glicko system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glicko-2) determines who you soloQ with.
your starting/actual rating, the formula for rating gain/loss on win/lose or the calculating itself (with all variables) still is secret to the community until a dev someday might reveal it.
no gutz no glory
“Tranquility has a beard.”
The goal of the MMR system is to figure out your skill level. It takes quite a few games to do this. Once your MMR matches your skill level, you will win 50% of the time. The same applies to your sister who’s apparently winning 90% of the time.
If you want better matchups, I recommend playing around server peak hours when more players are online. You might be getting matched with bad players simply because there’s no one else that’s online.
If you want to boost your win ratio, then go to your favourite profession’s subforum and ask for ,,up-to-date cheesy sPvP build".
Could be you don’t understand how conquest works. Are you one of those people that go to the enemy point after capping 2 points already? Do you fight one on ones on the enemy far point without any ways to decap? Do you fight the beasts at the spawn instead of going mid? If yes and very likely since this is 90% of the player base and you being rank 19, you probably belong in the low tier.
Also using an easy meta build is an easy way to boost wins even with terrible basic skills. Stuff like MM Necromancer, grenade/bomb/Tool Kit and pistol/shield Engineers, Hambow Warriors and Terrormancer are all extremely simple and useful builds to carry you through low ratings.

Thanks? Believe me, I understand how conquest works. I’ve been playing pvp based games since I was 9. (Heck, Star Wars Battlefront back in the day had similar concepts as this as far as capture points go.) Anyways, my issue is much more than L2P. Granted I’m no professional, but I understand what strategies win and what strategies lose.
Thanks for the tips on builds as well! Honestly, though, I’m more of a fan of difficult builds which, when mastered, can defeat most others.

In GW2, easy builds are also played on high ratings.
Of course, there are easy builds and ,,braindead" builds, but still you will need some practice to win against others – who also play these. But if you play your ,,unique & hard" build as a newbie, prepare for big lose streaks, serving as food for others.
PS: what server do you play on?

Ah, I see, and I understand that. I promise, though, I’m no noobie. I’ve had plenty experience and spent a lot of time researching good builds and stuff. I’m not the best, but I’m decent enough to add to a team haha.
I play on Sea of Sorrows! You?
You could try guesting on some unofficial PvP server to meet some good players to help you (in Heart of Mists), but I don’t know which one it is in America.
