It’d be more helpful to say I am using X build and cannot beat Y build engi.

But generally, get used to spotting their defensive cooldowns, and save your major bursts for after they use most of them up.

Ways they mitigate damage:
Traits
- Projection Injection – Gain protection when cc’d
- Automated Response – Reduce condi duration by 50% at 33% health
- ___________(forgot name) – Gain around 100 health per second when any kit is equipped

Weapon Skills
- ToolKit #4 – Block for 2s
- Shield #5 – Reflects projectiles (can’t move though) (can be pressed again for knockback)
- Shield #4 – Blocks projectiles; stuns anyone who does melee damage (but then block ends immediately

Then some other things to keep up with is if you are blinded (Pistol #3, Bomb #4) or not and etc. But yeah, more details help

I find them highly unkilable when they put all of their stuff down… They do TONS of damage, and besides that, the amount of heal that he can do + invulnerability is just sick…

Backpack Regenerator is the trait you’re looking for. Toolkit 4 is a 3 second block. Shield 4 is the reflective bubble, used again for knockback. Shield 5 blocks everything and stuns melee attackers and can be used again toss the shield dazing everything in it’s path to and from the caster.

And no, we’re not unkillable. Far from it. However, we can be really great bunkers. But to achieve that we give up most of our damage, as it should be. No OPness here.

That insane access to throwing people around only exists in melee to medium range. And someone who picks up that much control doesn’t have insane survival. Just take the time to kill them real quick instead of just running right up on them and playing into their hands.

Or of course there is the option of stability to completely negate their build if you have reliable access to it.

They’re not unkillable, one of the hardest people to kill, but not unkillable.. If you’re having a hard time with a class you should make one and play the build that is killing you.. Then figure out how you can counter it.

Player X complains about how OP the class is that player Y is using.
If Player Y is using same class as Player X then Player Y is obviously hacking.

I personally hate the AI spammers, and the endless mesmer clones warfare.

Mesmers on their own are not such a big issue, more even, but once you have about 6 clones, 4 minions and 3 spirit beasts and a cat in the mix, its just a clusterjobbie of misery. I even turn all my settings down in pvp to try to help out.

Oh and then they often run asura, so good luck trying to figure out what they are doing in amounts that litany of spam.

Stop crying about other classes and get better at your own, honestly.

I have all 80s but Ranger and Ele, I have tested all classes extensively in PvP and they are all fairly balanced. The only class I would say is getting the smelly end of the nerf stick is Elementalists. Although, I’ll be honest.. I’m not very good with Elementalist.

I’m sick of reading posts about how overpowered X class is.
When you’re being bias, it’s easy to make any class look bad.

engineer is pretty much designed for spvp to the point where only one or two professions can even attempt to handle them.

they can spam aoe/conditions, use plenty of cc, go invuln multiple times, lay down AI (albeit mild), and aoe heal.

as a thief i only attempt an engie if they’re power or flat out terrible, otherwise there’s no point.

I hate hard counter professions as much as you do since necros are the hard counter to engis as engis are the counter to thieves. But you don’t see me as a main engi calling for nerfs to necros. So if/when necros aren’t such a hard counter to engis then we can talk about thief vs. engis.

I think the judgement over engis is quite biaised by the fact that most fights are about 1 hambow + 2 engis( or 2 hambows + 2 engis).

Engi itself isn’t that OP, however when you’re facing 2 of them combined to 2 warriors ( half of my matchs yesterday), it becomes ridiculous, especially when you have no heavy in your party.

Yes, Engineers are still overpowered. But it’s not as blatantly “in your face” as some other imbalances because they are a less specialized class.

But this is an issue with all condition classes to an extent. Engineers would be fine if conditions in general were somehow addressed.

Weird …. doesnt show you on the leaderboard (top 1000). When ppl win a lot in a row they tend to end up in the top 100 quite fast in this game.

This isn’t true!

Engis are much more useful in teamfights, than thieves.
The turrets, throwable potions + their strong and many area CC skills, are a big help for the team and make the engi to a good supporter, but thieves have, unless a few stealth skills and only short oneperson stuns nothing, that help your team.

Wait what?

- Our heal has some of the highest single target HPS in the game…..yet everyone on your node gets healed by it. Its by far the best teamfighter heal in the game.
- We have some of the best on point pressure with our grenades while being able to stay relatively safe due to the insane range. And its the type of pressure that most bunkerguards for example struggle with.
- We are one of the if not the most difficult targets to kill due to our diverse defensive toolset. Stealth blocks invulnerability perma swiftness high uptime on protection etc.
- We have a throwable short CD elixer stealth in case ppl go down.
- We have an aoe stunn on our crate to avoid or secure stomps.

Id say its one of the best teamfighters in the game.

Why is it that everyone always talks about X class being OP they list everything the class can do but it’s impossible to have it all in one build?

Thieves are OP cos they can stealth stomp, heal and cure condis in stealth, reduce damage in stealth, do good burst, evade everything and guarantee rez and spam bleeds.

Mesmer is OP cos they can spam condis with clone death and shatter, and do crazy burst and stealth and spam phantasms and blink and get tons of good defensive boons in stealth.

I can never take any of these threads seriously because all people do is this, instead of giving actual legit criticism on why X is OP and how to fix it.

PS: If you’re having trouble with engineers, don’t stand in his bombs meleeing him, get a ranged weapon out. If you don’t have a ranged weapon that’s your own problem. Thief shortbow can easily kill engies who sit on points, whereas if you get in their face you’re playing right into your hands.

You wouldn’t stand still when a thief stealths to let him get a free backstab, so why get close to an engineer, where they are very powerful.

There have been no significant changes to the engineer that would make them any more powerful for months upon months, it’s just because of the shifting meta of it being FOTM along with necro that people are saying they’re OP.

Balth runes and Strength runes are ridiculous though.

Uh good luck running 3 turret engi against anything with moderate CC. Also, an IP engi can kill a warrior with condis…I’d say you need a bit more than moderate condi cleansing lol

yeah, i know ppl dont think much of it (x3 turret). but i’ve been playing it myself for few days and also played against it. btw, in that link it still carries rifle, p/s is even better (you mentioned cc, there is some survival). its good both single target and team fight.

I run builds in hotjoin that I wouldn’t consider even remotely viable and I can still 2v1 with them. It’s a completely different world than team queue

The damage is quite high for a build that is that tanky. Had moments where i killed a bunker in what seemed 3-4 seconds. And with the domes you add some extra sustain (on point) vs ranged classes.

But you lack the versatility and mobility that a traditional condi engi has. Since you have no swiftness and have the CD on turrets (so you cant fight where and whenever you want).

these are all valid drawbacks of x3 turret.

turret + player aa dps is about 1.8k aa on medium golem. all ranged (rocket and rifle 1500units distance) and very reliable. flame is perma burn, re-applied every 3 sec, cant cleanse much. 1.8k dps is not bad, when all your job is to stay away and run around. does pu mesmer (sort of same gameplay) has that much? with p/s for weapon you buy some time, while enemy is getting fired from all directions. and in deathball of teamfights, you can stay away and focus from safe range of 1500.

against ranged classes, i’ve raced against power rangers. with me hugging pillars (their pets annoying) and him taking damage from my turret triangle, it’s a close call, more often then not i out-dps him.

cd is only long for the rocket turret. i keep rocket at one place where i’m bunked (usually mid) and move with rifle and flame in between locations. by the time i run into new combat those two are off or nearly off cd and those are usually enough to end 1v1 on home.

stealth classes are hardest on this. cc + burst classes can also kill you. my worst experience was axe zerker warrior, i died to him 10 out of 10 times.

ps: supply crate on this build is a monster. it’s like a meteor shower.

I am rather puzzled by this, given that every single one of the successful engineer builds I’ve used, and seen used revolve around withstanding burst and overloading the opposition with CC/conditions. After countless threads defending power/crit burst in this game, people are surprised that this playstyle is successful. It’s just hilarious to defend close point with a PVT bomb/turrets engineer and watch a thief try to figure out why they couldn’t kill me while standing in a smoke field.

Engineers excel at area denial against uncoordinated players.

I play Engineer.
Balthazar runes are broken.

Engi doesn’t hardcounter thief at all.

in the past engineer countered melee professions i.e mainly warrior but now they have condi immunity (which also counters power engi/ immob / blind etc) but melee profs are so ridiculous right now it hardly matters. engineers are pretty bad in team fights because everything they do is a projectile which are easy to fizz/destroy/reflect via guardians or eles (offhand focus or the more likely dagger MH earth 2) or guardian shield, or resolute healer (bubble trait on res?) not to mention the mere presence of a necro that is decent on the opposing team can nearly spell death for your engi. Mesmer/necro/ s/d thief all have access to unblockable skills or no-tell dazes to prevent the engi from blocking(or shredding him even though he is) which leaves the engi vulnerable in every teamfight where you could be a mesmer or a thief or a necro and just use a get out of everything ability (aka teleports/blink etc)

tldr i guess, engi is still good in 1v1, but gets shut down / outshined in team fights

I don’t friggin’ get what people want; the game should revolve around guardian/warrior/thief and everyone else gets the shaft because reasons? The only time an Engineer, or any profession for that matter rolls face is when the players against them are poor. This is not to say that runes of balthazar and strength to a lesser extent couldn’t use a tweak. Engineer would be about ok if balthazar runes weren’t there to bloat certain aspects of condition gameplay.

I play Engineer.

I’ve never played an engineer, but I played in a match last night with 9 engineers. That alone tells me that something is broken. As a necro I felt like a ping pong ball. I spent 50% of the match being KD, stun, thrown and kicked all over the place. The other 50% I spent perma immobilized by those stupid turrets.
