Is sPvP ever going to be more than Conquest?
GW1 is still more active in pvp (all gamemodes included) than GW2 is.
You lost me when you started lying to exaggerate your point. Cause you know, this is ludicrously easy to verify. When I logged into GW1 last week fit nostalgia’s sake, I went to go do the pvp I liked there and was disappointed. The temple of Balthazar, which back before gw2 would have a dozen or more full districts, had one, rather empty district. HoM is far more active. But, then I went to check fort aspenwood and jade quarry. Both were totally and completely empty. Not a single person on either end.
He talks about the competition I guess, which is in GW1 (mostly GvG), still bigger than in GW2 nowadays. Hotjoin and soloQ can’t be taken seriously anyways.
I would’ve thought this if he didn’t explicitly spell out “all gamemodes included.”

yeah, I’ll get your point.
GW1 just felt more populated, due to the fact that for nearly everything a premade team was required. In GW1 you found teams fast, in GW2 there are none existing. Tunnel vision incoming

On the subject matter, I really would like to see more game modes. I’d definitely like to see something like Aspenwood or Jade Quarry – both provided some unique PvP experiences which I found to be quite fun.

My bad, as Empa said it few posts after yours, i meant competitive PvP.
I also played some RA matches today. I somehow had more 4v4 than i had 5v5 in soloQ for the past year
Several GW1 goldcapes ~
Considering running some RAs too…is LS Monk still viable?
Let’s just all go back to gw1 and gvg our hearts out…. Please?!?!
I vote Anet re skins gw1 pvp, and sells it as a new game… The combat, competition, and depth that game brought is still ignored by every other game maker; even Anet who invented the best pvp game ever (gw1) ignores it
On a side note… I miss Underworld and FoW

Was it ever viable? we do talk about life sheath right?^^
- Is that player going to stop playing PvP or GW2 all together?
I have a hard time believing this has ever been a source of concern for any developer at Arena Net, ever
No offence
:)
The question can be asked for any game type, but we have asked it.

Fair enough. Given GW2 only has SoloQ and TeamQ. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely want to see more PvP game modes for GW2 – having several options would be nice, and it’s long overdue.
I’d also like it a lot better if we got an Alliance Battles proper instead of just conquest. I like conquest fine, but would like to see some new things, and it’s no AB either – bigger teams, bigger maps, and actually counting how many people were on point, as well as NPC guards (which we all know were easy to beat, but provided a delay of being taken.)
While I never got into it, I’m baffled while there’s no Guild vs Guild in Guild Wars.

Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to ruin the lip service
@:“Is sPvP ever going to be more than Conquest?”
Yes.
@: Balance: it’s something we’re definitely keeping in mind as we experiment with different game types. Some things carry over just fine from Conquest, others become weaker, and others become stronger. It’s inherent/to be expected in having different goals in different game modes.
I can’t give out too much info, but I can let you know that we are working on a new game mode.
Oh please be an elimination deathmatch game type!
Oh please be an elimination deathmatch game type!
Oooh, that’s actually a neat idea! I’m envisioning something like a Royal Rumble-style free for all where new combatants get introduced every minute, to a max of 6 people in the arena at any one time.
It should either be GvG or HoH
then the game should balance for it, which means a significant reduction in the amount of teleports, and a significant increase in the amount of support
You guys realize that we most likely got Mr. Norfolk either fired, reprimanded, or ensured that his contract would not get renewed for breaking ANet’s “wall of silence”, right? That he more or less confirmed that ANet thinks its customers are complete idiots, right?
We’ll probably never hear from him again. Same thing happened with Hrouda.
hate to say it but new games modes have been in the pipeline for ages, if they come this year ill be shocked.

Honestly, if they re-released GW1 pvp as f2p with microtransactions for either skill unlocks, faction boosts, and cosmetic items (armour skins), it would seriously make a lot of money. Not GW2 3 million boxes sold levels of money, but easily enough money to pay for 20 people to work on maintaining and balancing the game and still be massively profitable. Especially if they let those of us who already own it to transfer our accounts over to the f2p version with all our unlocks and titles intact – the hardest thing for any f2p game to do is to establish itself and gain a critical mass of players, and GW1 already has an established playerbase in the seven figures, tens of thousands of whom were hardcore pvpers and would AT LEAST log in, try it out, and play a few games!
I’m sure they could find a way to make the pve portions of gw1 profitable as f2p too, but it wouldn’t work quite as well.
- How does that player feel?
- What questions is that player going to ask?
* Is this a bug?
* Why is it only different in PvP?- Who is going to answer those questions?
- Are they going to try and seek out someone to answer these questions?
- Is the person they (if they do ask) going to know the actual reason for this change?
- Is that player going to stop playing PvP or GW2 all together?
That is the biggest amount of condescending nonsense I’ve ever heard from a developer and trust me that is saying a lot. You rather disregard the health of the gameplay just so you won’t confuse a person when their build works differently in PvP? That has got to be the worst possible excuse and most insulting as well, you could appeal to the lack of resources or some sort of technical difficulty and nobody could prove you otherwise. A person who is too dumb to understand that skills might work differently in PvP and quits the game because of it is too stupid to see the difference between 3 and 5 seconds in the first place so please don’t treat all of us like idiots. Add a disclaimer when you swap to PvP if you can’t think of anything better.
“But Uuni, what if the person can’t read the disclaimer, are we being unfair to the illiterate?”
Yeah we are being unfair to the illiterate then. You can’t cater to every single persons special needs, you should cater to the people playing your game
It’s impossible for any sane person to believe that that’s actually the reason why you are doing this. It’s an excuse, an obvious excuse to not balance the PvP properly for whatever reason
He talks about the competition I guess, which is in GW1 (mostly GvG), still bigger than in GW2 nowadays. Hotjoin and soloQ can’t be taken seriously anyways.
And we all know the state of GvG in gw2, devs walking into a GvG held in the WvW and telling the people there to stop ruining his gamemode. Sure it was a single person telling that but still, the GvG people of gw2 are still brawling in an extra area of a jumping puzzle or in a field behind a supply camp
Been saying since day one that they need to at least balance PvE and PvP separately. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the reason that we have such unbalanced builds (and overall lack of build diversity in this game) is because of their refusal to split the skills between PvE/WvW and PvP.
I’m in agreement with the others here that I think they are using the biggest cop out in the world to say that it is because they don’t want to “confuse” players. Truth is they don’t want to actually have to do more than update skill facts with every patch.

I am sorry for Mr. Norfolk that he works for a kittenty company. Truly, that can beroug. Glass door suggests the pay isn’t great either.
Or if not a single royal rumble death match, at the very least make it a two man team since it’s always been a “I complement you” type game.

i have an idea of a pvp match, not sure if this has been mentioned.
the mission is to plant your team’s flag at the enemy base, but before your team can plant the flag, your team will need to kill the lord protecting the planting station or whatever you call it. if a player carrying the flag is downed, the flag dropped to the ground.
to make it interesting, make it so that the enemy can take your flag and bring it all the way back to your base and replant it there, and you’ll have to commune to take your flag from your base. any interruption will reset the commune, just like the orb on the current spvp.
if no team succeed in planting the flag, the team with most kill wins.
just an idea, could be improved further.
