Seriously, I am disappointed with the balance changes. Maybe I expected too much…

I was hoping they would fix the power creep. But they just went further into it.

From the changes, it looks like a-net considered the only problem in the meta was tanky amulets and chronobunker. Well that is not true.

Do you know why condi rev and bunker mesmer were so strong? Because they both have:

  • resistance to negate conditions
  • passive stability to negate CC
  • a huge amount of block/evades to negate all damage
  • on-demand quickness to rez in case someone still end up going down

Apparently, this fooled the developers into thinking that damage, CC and conditions were fine and sustain was the only problem. But it isn’t. Anyone trying to play without near-perma stability must have felt like they spent half of their time stunned or dazed for insane durations. Anyone without much condi cleanse must have seen in a few seconds all possible condis stacked on them, and in particular chill delaying all their skills (including their condi cleanse).

But this patch does not fix this. The only real nerfs in this patch are elementalist and chronomancer. So congratulations a-net, chronomancers are most likely dead. But scrapper? Do you think sneak gyro was the only OP thing about this build? Druid? No single nerf? And do you think reaper needed more condis? And thief more damage? And seriously “a hard look at revenant […] defensive capabilities” means only a slight nerf to “Crystal Hibernation” healing and a iCD on stability? They were running “berserker” or “viper” and still taking on 1v2 without problems!!!

So yes, the new meta will be different. Removing tanky amulets and quickness rez will change the pace of the game. But it won’t fix the power creep that made the game unfun for me after HoT, even before the tanky meta settled.

Because you do not necessarily counter more sustain with more damage. You do not counter insane block durations with more unblockable CC. Contrary to what I sometimes read, “if everything it OP nothing is OP” isn’t true. Power creep can make the game less fun. In particular, CC creep does, because I play this game because… I want to play. I don’t want to wait for 10s while CC locked hoping my stunbreak will be back on CD, which it isn’t because of chill to end up dead. But apparently, I’m not anymore playing the right game for that…

You really don’t understand anything about the revenant do you? With these changes and necro buffs you’ll be lucky to see anyone using the revenant in a few days. It’ll be in a a lot worse than what the warrior felt.

You really don’t understand anything about the revenant do you? With these changes and necro buffs you’ll be lucky to see anyone using the revenant in a few days. It’ll be in a a lot worse than what the warrior felt.

It is just pure hating on the “new class”, happens in almost every game.

They nuked core rev by adding icd to stab on dodge (instead of adjusting herald trait), nuked sword dps, nerfed quite hard sustain, buffed other classes and you complain about rev that is in fact out of meta? Wait till you run into staff/dagger thief with 1.8 coe on auto (old sword rev had 1.5) or mercenary reaper

anet had a lot riding on this balance patch. I, personally feel they have woefully under delivered.

1) They eradicated mesmer from the game.
2) thief desperately wanted sustain, so they add an etxra 440 health to a heal and tweaked some regen, buffed auto attacks, but didn’t touch toughness, so they are still crepe paper thin.
3) They figured out a way of making warrior even worse. Buffed hammer, but gave no ability to debuff stability with hammer. They also made a laughable attempt at improving healing. Bigger gains don’t mean much when they the same cast times and interrupts haven’t changed. Made berserker stance a buff that can be easily stolen or corrupted.
4) Necro has been reduced to corrupt cheese mode.
5) reduced engi defense by up’ing their healing.
6) re-positioned ele to have more damage than defense, but left as crepe paper thin as thieve’s.
7) Removed revenant from meta by not giving them condition mitigation or viable removal. Increased ICD, rather giving HuD info.

the list could go on almost indefinitely.

It really feels like their has been a major issue comprehending what was needed, and instead player QQ and whimsical idea’s has been the focus. Pretty much only necro/engi walk away from this smiling.

Warrior is even more dead, thieve’s are just happy they got some damage back and are soon going to be in plague numbers. Mesmer has every reason to disappointed, engi as always managed to walk away ok, guardian should be renamed “sorta of a guardian.”..

Too many people detailed in each forum what would be good for each profession. if you read through all the insane buffs people wanted, there was some articles of gold from reasonable people who put forth solid idea’s. Again, the freely available resource has been ignored.

It needs to be appreciated that as a developer you have intimate knowledge of the game. It also needs to be acknowledge that a lot of players spend more time in game than what developers even work on the game full time. Kinda like a manager who runs a business for the owner. The owner understands what it took to make the business and what the vision was..the manager has better understanding of the day to day needs who the clients are. To develop the business the owner really needs to have their finger on the pulse of the manager.

Let’s take a look for the “increased healing”

Health Insurance from 15% to 33%: doesn’t give anything to engineer himself, just for his allies and is bound to Med-Kit
Automated Medical Response: Increase cd from 90s to 120s. So a nerf for engineer healing.
Soothing Detonation: Increased scaling with healing power. Yeah, 500 health per blast finisher with healing power equip seems pretty op…. not really.
Medical Dispersion Field: Just range increase and again, nothing for engineer himself, just allies.

That’s it. So where exactly did they buff engineer healing?

Funny thing is… Last meta could have been easily fixed.

Some changes were conducive of a healthy and relatively balanced game. So I guess credit where it is due, so props.. I guess

But no, A-net trying to have their “fluctuating meta” is so scared nothing will change with proper balance that they over nerf, and over buff, and go “HEY GUYS IS IT GOOD NOW? WE ESPORTS NOW? SEE WE CHANGE LIKE LoL AND SC2!”

Dev bias is also obvious and how they affect each rotation and iteration, as the constant killing and resurrecting of builds effectively removing diversity from the game since they are only viable for a fraction of the year.

and now when they try to fix it again, it will just be iterations on already sloppy foundations and the game will continue down this path.

I didn’t want to name drop any classes as I just want balance for everyone but I love how they used the excuse: “Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns has seen many a chronomancer survive a killing blow and seize victory.” <- This status quo has been a thing for more than just chronomancers since the release of GW2, and MANY builds were capable, and allowed for easily achieving exactly that. Not to mention Engie, Rev, and Ele, from the previous meta. As well as Thief and Warriors in the past. I have no proof but my suspicions are grouch was the reason engie didn’t get the mes level of a lobotomy.

But no, this is a problem so not only are we going to kill the clear issue, but we are also going to kill everything attached to that issue. Because I guess heavily invasive chemotherapy and radiation treatment after remission is the best way to get rid of cancer for good, even if the patient dies.

This game is being run like a bad corporation in a board meeting. “We need some bs to convince stock evaluators that our income is going to increase over time so our stock price will be better.” “Ok we’ll make huge drastic changes. They don’t need to be good we’ll just tell people they are. That’s like the same thing as increasing your actual quality from a book balancing perspective.” Just manipulate your discounting factors like the rest of corporate America.
