Do you have proof or are you just saying that? I encounter new players all the time..
while I soloq into team arena and play with people that come expecting to play as a team.
Agree with you on the solo and team arenas, but team arenas should be for teams.
Solo arena = mandatory no party
Team arena = mandatory party of 5
Both queues as ranked, and then remove the unranked queue. I don’t really see the point in having two queues that are basically the same, except for the fact that guilds go to unranked to farm rank in skyhammer/courtyard.
How stubborn people is… they can’t, in any distinct situation, remove Unranked Queue only for one reason: some people will want to queue with friends and not a 5 full party. Maybe 3 party premade, etc…
It’s a Queue that does not affect Leaderboard system, where you can just chill with friends playing matches for pure fun, aside for the rather competitive Ranked Queue (this is assuming we will get a meaningful Ladder).
They can’t remove Unranked. Period.
Won’t argue the Solo-Team thingie for Ranked Queue because I won’t get any good thoughts in that topic I have not already. Peace.

I don’t necessarily disagree with this sentiment. However, what about people that want to queue with their friend but don’t have 3 others online they can group up with. Essentially this would force them to wait and find 3 randoms in heart of the mists to join their party and then queue up. Which you just as well could get out of allowing people to queue solo into team arena.
Even if people did end up 5 soloq vs a premade, I would still be fine with that. I’ve won in that situation many times (and lost).
Also, thanks Poliator.7021 for saying what I was about to post about why unranked exists.

Got you there.
As for SoloQ. I’m not really a fan of it in a team game without individual snowballing mechanics. I’d love to see, actually, the current Ranked Arena, with a Team Ranked Arena (giving sense to the Guild Leaderboards they are going to add), full 5 party premade queue, that would aliviate the “amount” of premades that so much bother some players.

Hmm.. so would this mean that 5 man premades would compete in a different leaderboard in this team ranked arena? That would be interesting.
Also, in that case, would that mean 5 mans would not be allowed in regular ranked arena? Because unless there is some great incentive to play in team ranked arena, I see no reason why they would actually queue up for that. I guarantee the queue times would be obnoxiously long. I’d be down for this idea too though
The incentive/reward part of this would come from the Leaderboards.
With another Ladder system than the current one (leagues using the current point system or MMR like the older) they could place different rewards serving as incentive. No matter if Solo or full premade in Ranked Queue, both would be able to reach that tier, if they have put the necessary effort and have the required skill.
Of course, a “Team Ranked Queue” should have a better incentive for premades to play in that mode.
For example, something as seeding for big tournaments? To accomplish this kind of thing, they should make a really good Leaderboard, but this was just an example of what kind of incentive ANet can give the players (not only premades) to form teams and participate on this queue.
Queue times, sadly, would be longer and if no teams play this queue because of a lack of great incentive, it will die.
Although, I still have hope. We are getting Guild Leaderboards with HoT, but if I remember correctly, they will only come for Stronghold. Which leaves me wondering what kind of test will they try to do with the Guild Leaderboard (apart from a Team Ranked Queue, if not adding a Guild Ladder would be a little useless if you are not fighting “Guild vs Guild”)
P.S.: Sorry for anything badly writen. I don’t like typing on the phone.
I don’t know how many players my opinion applies to, but leaderboards carry zero incentive for me. Even if they changed how you get points and fix it so it isn’t a total grindfest, the rewards still do not make me want to play ranked any more or any less. I really couldn’t give a kitten if I got a mini llama or a piece of armor.
What I want is match making set up in a way that makes all my matches fun. Challenging, fighting to the last minute matches. The fact that not all my matches are that way is a symptom of a huge issue.
The reason I brought up this thread is because I’m tired of whiny players that don’t want to work together. I can’t play with a premade team 100% of the time that I play guild wars. I don’t really put the effort in to make it happen, but regardless I don’t want to have to. As I said earlier, I want the solo arena to funnel all the players with that mentality into that arena. The ones that believe 5v5 actually means 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1. And I want to stay far away from them.
I might have said I would be down for your idea, but I’m pretty on the fence about it right now. In fact I’m leaning away from it at the moment. Mostly, because I think it will not change anything and it’ll be a game mode that no one will want to do after a while (because long queues and likely hood of facing same teams over and over).
I’m not necessarily saying I have the 100% solution either, but I do know that the previous system worked better (was more enjoyable).
I was just throwing ideas to another idea with that thing, really off-topic, I’m sorry.
I feel, at some extent, the same way you do towards “bring back ‘competitive’ SoloQ” players.

No need to apologize, I gladly welcome others’ ideas. I may just not always agree with them. The whole point of this board is to discuss ideas about pvp is it not? I’m happy you shared. If anything, I’m disappointed others did not as well. Then again, I’m sure this is not the first topic that has been made about this issue, and people may be tired of beating a dead horse
GW2’s ranked queue seem to be lacking the distinction between these 2:
Solo MMR vs Party MMR
I’m pretty sure they just use a singular mmr system. This means some players that often party queue would get elevated mmr when they solo queue and vice versa. For there to be a separate solo/team queue, we’ll need a proper MMR system first.
Not enough players to support more queue-systems.
Sounds like anet logic.
We dont want to split the community between solo and team queue!!!!
So what we did instead was split the community between ranked and unranked queue, this time though we will split for no reason whatsoever!

The bold highlight is the reason most people scorn the current leaderboards. There’s no incentive for anyone to pvp other than the fact that it’s fun, given matchmaking.
The second biggest thing is matchmaking. Hopefully it continues to improve.
We can always complain that the rewards could be better (they definitely could) but that aspect is always going to be there.
There’s a way to have a grindy leaderboard while also cater to people who only play 2 or 3 games per day. It’s called math. I’m not the best at it but i’ve seen the leaderboard’s point algorithm and know it can be done. It may be difficult for one person to do it, especially if that person received orders from some one else who wants it done a specific way. And when that specific way fails, the boss is going to say scrap it and start from an old mmr itteration. One that “worked” but had issues.
I hope that’s not the situation because that’s a sandbox way of doing things. I want Anet to continue to reitterate and evolve rather than settle with a system that we all know had major flaws.

Most of the time I meet small Teams (2-3) in my matches. So you would force the majority of the players to play solo. I don’t think it is healthy for PvP to force the majority of the players to play in a way they don’t want to play. Sitting in the queues for a long time is boring so people want to team up and trash talk etc. but many have not the possibility to always build a full team of 5.
I will maybe do a separate post to discuss about Leaderboards. As Saiyan said, the current system is flawed in design from what a Ladder should mean (which may vary from person to person).
With that post I would like to go further than just “go back to the old MMR Ladder”. More like, think of a Ladder system that could work with this point system (with possible changes for it, if proposed).
I just need to think more about it to start a post inciting constructive discussion on the matter.
As long as the Ladder is like this, there is not a “higher level” incentive fir every player to play their best (not as important as the matchmaking factor, but without a good Ladder, shifting queues would likely result in bad matches, due to lack of incentives – more trolls).
