Tanky DPS and Spike conditions seem to get similar result without the risk reward of burst builds (where there is much more risk than rewards these days). Beyond the .“Well I wear a zerker necklace and I do fine”. commentary is building an entire build around burst really worth it anymore?

Burst thief is so much fun for me. Regardless of how powerful it is in the meta I will play the game the way I enjoy it.

That’s not quite what you were asking, and more on point and no, for the most part and for most players it’s far better to play one of the OP meta classes.

However, there are still amazing players with great tactics, strategy, positioning, and technical abilities that they actually manage to make thief work in a competitive environment. For example Caed has been running D/P even when the forums were saying D/P wasn’t viable in a competitive atmosphere. Specifically the entire PAX tournament as well as several other tournaments.

Burst builds are heaps fun. High risk/high reward. Have you ever played burst engineer? Pull em in, wipe em out. Pop!

I can’t stand the passive-tanky-spammy-condition-sustain builds, they’re just so boring, so if tthat’s also something you dislike, play burst.

Burst works but I wouldn’t play it in solo queue unless I was a really good player which most people are not including myself. I am an average player so I play the type of spec that doesn’t need a lot of support in a chaotic solo queue type environment. My experience when I played burst in solo q is the people on my team would be on different targets not assisting and I would continuously be spiking people not quite to death and they would barely get away and start healing up because the rest of the people would be attacking one target each even if is spammed assist and then I would die because of my glassy nature.

I play burst shatter mes in soloQ and it does fine. Sure, it is veru vulnerable but if u know what u r doing, and what u plan to do next, got fast reactions and good awerness (if sum1 is comming from behind for example) u will do well.

It’s more fun then tanky specs. When you’re tanky you don’t even know if you’re doing good or not because either way you will do dmg and survive very easily.

With a burst spec you are forced to do good all the time or you die. You must dodge at the right moment, you must burst at the right moment etc etc Much more thinking and fast reaction involved !
