I hope there is a pro league even after the solo/duo changes because PvP is so much fun after all the changes and balance patches. I would love to see my favourite pro players battle it out and also because I’ve really only watched the world championships last year. Would I get a definitive answer?.

I have to admit, I hope not. Pro league is expensive and I don’t see that it adds a lot of value to the game.

Beside that, the players haven’t had much of a track record in terms of getting along with the vast majority of players.

I can’t give you the definitive answer, but I can give you the probable answer:

On a side note the whole proleague deal was super toxic for the NA community. Anet limited competition to the few teams that qualified, and any losers were left to drop dead. I was with a budding team almost ready to be really good. We won AGs, scrimmed well, even 3 capped Abjured. We didn’t qualify for proleague because a single match. There were no tournaments for my team if we didn’t qualify, so we broke up and my team died hours after the qualifier. This happened to many potentially competitive teams who didn’t get in.

The ESL/AG weekly deal was much better for the health of the PvP community. It is a shame really. Since then PvP never recovered and now with duo queue, the only way to get a fun high level match is to snipe the few good players who occasionally queue.

I also kind of hope Pro League is dead, but Anet needs to switch gears faster and turn at least a fraction of the energy they put in to Pro Leagues into regular pvp tournaments, like old ESL weekly/monthly and AG. To echo what Ryan said, with this solo/duo queue stuff, teams need a reason to exist. Right now it’s like Anet has actually gone anti-team for spvp.

I doubt it. For starters there has never been a case of 1 games release killing off another game. Second, For Honor is a nice game but it gets really repetitive gameplay wise.

I doubt it. For starters there has never been a case of 1 games release killing off another game. Second, For Honor is a nice game but it gets really repetitive gameplay wise.

It’s what this game is trying to be. The combat is fair where skill will trump button mashing every time. And it’s the same exact 3 cap game mode as GW2 and even has minions from overhyped mobas like LoL. It’s literally on its first launch day with no metas and there are already promises for updates. I’m sure other game modes will be considered as well, knowing how EA loves to do DLC’s. All in all, you’re left with a far superior PVP system that promises better graphics, game-play and pvp attention for the same exact price.

For PVP players, the choice is quite simple. I don’t predict many players will play this game as their main anymore.

All ezport did for GW2:

1) Destroy build diversity as the company impose a MOBA balance on a MMO with 9 professions…like GW2 offers 100+ professions to choose from so you can afford to have 1-2 viable build for class…d’hu

2) Create an overly toxic environment like PvP mode in a MMO need any help in that department to start with

3) Money better spent elsewhere..get wasted to pay few individuals who to the contrary of general belief only supported the game to keep the cash cow flowing…they left as soon as the money dried out

The ESL players were almost all very toxic and abusive in game and whenever they streamed.

Secondly, it was a waste of money that could have been used to help other areas of the game.

Thirdly, they balanced around it. So they killed build diversity to make it easier to balance for their terrible esports.

Fourth, if you took away giveaways the pvp viewer audience would barely break 1000. This game sold 5 million copies and is free to play now. And yet your pvp audience is about 1000 people with another 4000 (at most) pve players there for giveaways.

Esports needs to die. It must be replaced with regular tournaments for small cash prizes. Let the scene grow organicially or die.

There are plenty of very talented players in this game. Saying otherwise just shows you have very little knowledge of ESL-level play because they are all much, much better than all the randoms we see in ranked.

It is not because they hate the game that they will leave. They are competitive players. What they want is to compete. There is no way for them to do that in game so it is no surprise that they will look for a new game if this one doesn’t offer them what they want.

Honestly I doubt we will get a new proleague. Probably a poorly timed decision. Pvp got more hype since ever.

The ignorance in this forum blows my mind. Having a proleague will never affect your precious gameplay. There won’t be less patches because they spent all their resources on pricepools and organization. Thats not how budgets in such a big company work.

Of course gw2 is not Overwatch and I’m thankful that gw2 offers more aside from structured pvp. Ironically gw2 with it’s current ladder system( it’s not perfect right now) , it’s acessability and the engaging combat the pvp scene could be much more successful, even if it’s not that fun to watch.

But locking important builds behind HOT and the poor marketing (people think this game is dead ) we will never have a healthy population. At least improve your marketing if you don’t use yor budget on proleagues. Why not add a PvP-account-upgrade so you can unlock all current and upcoming specialisations for pvp only? Getting a healthier population would also help sustaining new pvp modes. And please don’t ever do these cringy taxi ads again…

We have way more important things to worry about that watching a match between the same 2-3 teams using mirror comps:

That’s not exactly true. Overwatch totally killed all of it’s competition. I’m thinking of a specific one but I can’t remember its name for the life of me. However I believe you are right about For Honor, it’s a nice game but far too small and niche to attract large crowds for the long haul.

There has, however, been a series of games coming out in recent years that have been eating away at GW2 PvP by simply doing it better. The aforementioned 2 games, Overwatch and For Honor. ESO has been stepping up and massively improving their PvP. IMO, PvP needs variety at this point. Stronghold and Deathmatch failed because ANet didn’t make it appealing to go there, and didn’t follow up with more maps for the game mode. A single map barely qualifies as a mode altogether. Ofc it’s cheaper cutting your losses after one failed attempt but did they really give it a chance in the first place really?

Other games companies seem to be doing so much more in the same time period as ANet, and I keep wondering how that happens. Engine limitations maybe?

Lmao. This is a PVE game. And this game seems perfectly fine to people who are entertained fighting scripted robots. PVP was dead before season 5. We were promised mid season adjustments and didn’t get them until less than a week from the end of the season. We were promised plenty from this game, and we didn’t get much on the PVP side.

The developers simply do not care about PVP, it merely exists as a check mark for the game to include multiple features. I used to love the fighting in this game. It’s why I kept returning after 7 total permanent bans. But I guess I should’ve seen it as a sign: being un-permbanned. pvp truely died and descended to such low levels that one of the most notorious players is unleashed upon them. it’s almost poetic

I simply can’t accept that as GW1 had the best PvP out of all games at the time. It was developed as a PvP game where PvE was just a slap-on. Wondering where it all got turned around…

Just compare the staff at launch to now. Everyone developer that had some type of direction for their respective area of work has now moved on. It shows in the living story and in the inconsistent direction that pvp is being led.

They should take that prize money and hire a couple new developers to work on pvp. It would be money much better spent.

Overwatch killed off TF2, but then again TF2 was ancient by shooter standards. Moreover Overwatch is identical to TF2 in terms of target audience and gameplay style.
Anytime you have two games as similar as TF2 and Overwatch are, one of them is going down.

New titles always chip away at older titles, this is universally true for all games in all genres. MMORPGs are the most resilient to this effect, but it still occurs.

There is no real evidence that more mode variety equals more population, moreover mode variety tends to cause a number of design issues, example: Classes being stupid OP in stronghold but meh in conquest, which makes balance a nightmare.

Also if you are trying to make a competitive community variety is actually your enemy because competitive formats require consistency. It’s why Mobas like Paragon only have 1 mode.

I don’t see this. SW:TOR and Wildstar’s development has fallen way behind Anet. ESO and WoW are the only real contenders. WoW because it’s archaic engine requires minimal manpower to make content for. (the higher fidelity a game is, the more manpower development needs) ESO’s Devs are definitely going full tryhard, but I doubt that game will ever be much more of a threat to GW2 than it was launch.

I wish Anet would do more for non-ESL competitive tournys, but outside of that I have no complaints. Necro buffs would also be nice, but whatever.

Even though I remain hopeful it does not look like it. Esport players were fun to watch and showed us what this game is truly capable of. A lot of people try and bring down the esport community and events which is sad because many of them get kitten just how much better those players are then the rest of us. I say who cares? not all of us are cut out to be that good but those events are fun to watch.

We do not even have PvP teams (we have solo-duo by design), we do not have PvP guilds (we have friends list) and now we are asking for pro league? Seriously?! Let’s have some respect for what people have voted: SoloQ.

Any half decent player left gw already. Even Helseth went to Smite (i left gw mid 2 season for it and now im in master rank there) cause gw is hopeless. Devs failed to balance the game and they have no intention to even balance it based on manifesto and patchs history so why bother.. its a casual pve game anyway.

Lmao. You’re right about PVPers not wasting money on useless cosmetics. But you give PVE more relevance. You’re all just a bunch of robot killers that lack the skill and creativity to fully demonstrate the power of every build. You are merely pale examples of your classes. You waste ANet’s resources if anything and you’ve ruined pvp to the point most of the competitive people don’t play anymore. When pvp dies, this game dies. The pve in the game is nothing spectacular and the only thing distinguishing this from WoW is dodge. I’ve at one point dedicated massive amounts of time into both PvP and WvW. WvW declined I moved towards PvP, PvP declined I moved towards PvP games, and GW2’s PvE. B.) I feel the same way as you do far as ANet’s just giving PvEers to ruin all point of PvP.

On your flaming point about PvEers can’t afford a WoW sub. I just think that is just beyond ignorant of you to say. If any thing I personally believe PvEers only play GW2 for it’s policy of just handing out everything for little to no skill or time investment like all of the other mainstream MMOs on the market. More so then just not being able to pay a sub. Me personally I am paying a sub and another MMO I will not name in this post.

On your flaming point about PvEers not being able to demonstrate skill. I also think this is funny. Last I check the top leaderboard PvPers didn’t even earn their spot. Mainly ether paid gold, or abused the system to get their. PvEers in high level fractals and raids in my opinion demonstrate more skill then most so called elite PvPers. You try completing the raids and all of the fractals since you think they take no skill.

Oh and I am one of the few true PvPers that now barely even plays but still none the less plays GW2. I just find GW2’s PvP too hard to take serious, like innocent people like yourself do. Balance issues with builds, match maker, and lack of in match countering. People being promoted to AFK/Idle for easy ascended rewards rather then earn them in PvE land like most of us. Players allow to troll ranked leagues with extremely to little recourse.

However I still like the game enoth to comment and play it, now casually as ANet intended it to be. PvEers are easier to maintain and give to lion share of the funding from players. Which is why GW2 across all game modes would never be competitive at best. Better to attract and funnel PvEers thru supposed competitive modes, then to actually waste time and resources trying to make them competitive.

S6 arrived. Still no real answer. Still no opportunity to compete as a team. At least they “like” the idea of automated tournaments. Stupid me thought they have at least something in development after the s5-poll. I’m a pure solo/duoQ player and these things do not really affect my gameplay, but it’s just sad to see a 5v5 gamemode not being used for competitive teamplay.

Idk in which direction anet wants to go with pvp. Leave it like this until s69? We have leaderboards. That’s a good thing, but the hype is already dying out really fast, which is scary.

Grouch told us at the world championship they were going to do automated tourneys. Its been 6 months and they told us they want to work on them now. They’ve done nothing for 6 months. We might get automated tournaments in 2018. Maybe. If Evan doesn’t get pushed over to help raids cuz that’s all the people at anet care about.
