Pretty much a rage post :S

Played the crap out of Gw2 for a few months but now fully understand that this game won’t go no where with the way they have crapped all over the community.

I kind of quit gw2 after playing it for around 5-6 hours a day in the hope that one day it would become a e-sport or the devs would stop messing about and actually listen to the community around 3weeks ago. I did however login yesterday to check how the mists/game was feeling (wondering if anything had been added) , to my surprise there was a huge kitten pve patch but once again nothing what at all for pvp.

I’m not trying to be a dick but Anet you shipped this game as a pvp/esport game and months after release all we have heard is “Sometime in the next few months we will do a pvp patch which will START adding esport/pvp features”.

Paids are stale and it’s only the same 3-4teams winning them or even getting last round. No spec client no actual ladder or support no way of supporting the community (pvp side hell you love the pve side) so i’m curious what is your actual plan with this game.

The people who spent so much time playing it in the hope you would do something with it and just got kitten on are abit annoyed and tbh i know so many excellent players who just quit because you enforced A. Such a stupid meta B. Ignored anything real pvp players said and just carried on adding huge pve themed content patches with kitten all for people who pvp.

So i’m wondering whats the ETA on actual e-sport features all of them (the ones needed) not just the “Start”. When will this game actually be out of beta stage because atm it pretty much is, i mean nothing has been added since beta weekends pretty much. I would like to keep playing the game but atm it’s so unplayable and it’s like pointless to even try play it.

You are deluding yourself if you actually think this game hasn’t died/is in serious decline, maybe not pve wise for pvp wise it’s long gone the time when this game could have been a “big” esport hell you will be lucky if this game even makes it as a niche one with the small amount of people pvping in it. More people seem to be doing that snowball pvp crap than actual Tpvp which explains alot.

Sorry if i sound like a dick but after putting so much time into a dead cause and promoting the kitten out of the game /helping people out with it telling people it’s the next big thing and then realizing it’s basically bloodline champions with pve i’m a tiny bit annoyed.

Hey at least i can still login every 2-3weeks and play casually for around 30 mins (: Thats one good thing right you have made a game that casual players will love (Just a shame you advertised it as something it will never be pretty much)

FLFW, my wayward son. You haven’t a clue. GuildWars2 has the best PvP mechanics/playstyle i’ve seen in any MMO, and others would agree. It is by far the superior MMO right now if you look at it in that light. What Ayraswag is trying to say is that he understands what potential this game had (and still has i guess), and it’s a mighty great big shame to see it being treated like this, and that is why he’s annoyed (as are many, many others). We don’t care for PvE, we don’t care about Wintersday, we just want Leader boards, Spectator mode, Tournaments, and publicity. We understand things take time, but ANet have had enough time.

Actually i did play many of them. I bought this game for PvP as i played GW1 for 3,5 years and im more than obligded to say this is worst pvp i’ve seen. YES this game and even pvp has much potential but in 4 months this cart was only rolling down.

Exoskelet of this game is really great but stuff they are putting on it SUCKS. I dont care much about PvE so i wont talk about that. But PvP is numb and boring. YES you have many ways to build but only few are vialable which makes rest builds useless even thou they do exist.

Current meta only encourages people to play either glass cannon or bunker. Horrid balance and insane op’ness of mesmers and thieves ruins any possible fun. And dont you start that they are not. THEY ARE . Yes i’ve beat many mesmers and thieves , but they were bad but good ones are unkillable. Best you can do is run since mesmer currently can do ~10k dmg in one combo. So thieves with endless stealth spamming heartthing.

I had great expectations for this game…

i thought it was, they kinda started out strong, but the cracks began to show too soon.

the mechanics are amazing, combat is fluid. but they have so much work left with respect to improving the meta and adding content.

The game is clusterkitten, its bad to watch. Streams are pointless and so is depth in this game. Compared to games like sc2 and lol its just way 2 simple and control point gameplay is pure fail and not entertaining at all. Its fun for casuals but fun ends quick when there is nothing to go for. U had good base with gw1 but u scrap it all and made this dogkitten. Now its over – have fun with it.

actually, it’s not very fun for casuals, which is why we’re seeing a decline. and a lot of fun for those who know the intricacies of the mechanics. im still loving tpvp and learning new builds every day.

they need to tone down gimmicky builds if they want casuals to participate. toning down burst and bunkers would open up the game to at least a dozen more viable builds.

that of course is just one piece of the puzzle. we need ELO, and a different game mode, in that order of priority. releasing the game focused on point capture and tournaments was a serious mistake, but i can see what they were going for.

So let me see, FLFW and you both have an opinion. They are different and somehow this means FLFW “haven’t a clue” and you are obviously right yourself.

gotta agree with FLFW, it’s the worst of all the MMOs I played, excluding maybe a few old ones that were designed as free P2W games.

And to the thread title: No it obviously isn’t. Look at the amount of effort put into PvE, then at PvP and WvW. Play through all the content in all the modes and make a fair comparison. The answer should come easy to everyone.

Anet dev dont have time to work on pvp, creating stupid christmass and halloween events take all their time.

I got exactly the same feeling as you do. My team was playing for 5-7 hours a day, trying out different comps, improvizing with builds, trying to find something innovative, but we always came back to bunker/burst meta, which has already ruined the game. We stopped playing as soon as we realized ANet has so few people working on PvP aspect. Not only that, with every patch they introduced new class bugs, imbalances, and so on.
Then, after viewing that video with Jonathan Sharp, I actually got some hope that there will be changes after all, hearing that they want more balanced builds to break through, how they share our feelings, bla bla. So, famous December patch came through, which should’ve been a start to making more builds viable. And, yeah, you guessed it, there was absolutely nothing that would help with current state of tPvP.

There is no way I’m going to come back to this game’s pvp, as I completely lost my team, there are no improvements, and we won’t see them till February for sure, which is more than 2 months of waiting. Someone will say, oh, but this game got released only 3-4 months ago, give it some time and you’ll see that you were wrong. The problem with that is that we are almost in 2013. where competition between companies is just much higher than it was 5-6 years ago, and that if you do not start good, you are pretty much doomed. Beta lasted for half a year or so, and there were only minor PvP changes, and then they had 3 more months till release to implement something viable. That’s 9 months, or close to that, don’t tell me they couldn’t implement ranking and ladder system at least. And to advertise this as an e-sport is shameful, fake marketing. Many people here, and probably most of those that left this game bought this game exclusively for PvP. I don’t kittening want your compassion, I wan’t that which I payed for, that which was advertised for 2 years or so. Hell, we waited for that PvP blog post for almost a month or so, because apparently, they had so many meetings, and they didn’t want to make false promises. Well, you got that right, this game’s PvP is one hell of a big false promise, so you didn’t even have to have those meetings at all… To think that such a great game as GW1 came from this company is mind blowing, although I do believe that majority of those talented people working on ANet’s previous title weren’t doing that job on this game.

PvE is great. Regions are beautiful, there are quite a lot of great dynamic events, jumping puzzles, dungeons, and so on, and kudos to those working on that part of the game, but PvP is just one big mess.

PvP still has potential, Anet just seem to be taking their kitten time, hopefully the time taken shows in the Jan/feb PvP update.

After playing gw2 for some time, I just get to the conclusion, that:

- GW2 has the BEST dynamic combat system in all mmos
- GW2 has the worst look on players which is that playerbase consists of teams, not of single players that CAN make teams(which works up to 3 players if the team is to ALWAYS be playing good – consisting of the same players with the same playstyle)
- GW2 has the worst matchmaking policy – introducing free/paid tourneys and QPs, when, in the meantime, there could be just real Matchmaking Rating
- GW2 has the worst timing – when it could become a succesful esport like “BOOM, HERE IT IS” ANet like didn’t want to → lose the playerbase and what do you want to build esport from?

The combat system is a very valuable thing, but with stupid look on the rest of the gameplay, which is vital to esports, GW2 is a lost game for me.

It would be nice (although not exactly likely) if Anet would pull a FFXIV on the spvp, a redesign is needed if it could be made into an esport.

we’ll see on this fabled “jan/feb pvp update” that’ll be the deciding point for me, and i expect most of the pvp community, so lets see if they’ll hire some people who know what they’re doing!

but in years time when you’re applying for a new job you can either say:
“i worked on GW2, one of the greatest MMOs of all time”
or
“i worked on one of the most dissapointing and overhyped MMOs of all time”

^Yup, The proposed “PvP update” is going to be the final nail in the coffin for me. Unless they do a major turnaround. Anymore of this “inching” in the wrong direction and I’m done.

Until then I’ll just keep taking the casual approach to the game.

Yes I do agree, with OP. An Esport should at the very least something that matches you with similar skilled opponents, or atleast something better than what we were given. Granted it’s too much to expect something that WoW, SC2 or LoL has (in the case of WoW the MM system has been refined over many years), but no custom servers so elite players can organize tournaments and generate interest? That really is spitting on the face of people who put in the time to promote this game competitively.

Without subs there will be no money to pay for PvP to get to where it should be.
