It's about time...
Well, I kind of agree with you. The problem is, if you don’t use sources outside the game (like Backpack’s excellent video on rotations, that every new player should watch) or if you don’t join a pvp guild, unranked won’t help you to get better. Just consider that the people who ping ferocity or the bosses on Niflhel are somewhat close to your MMR, if they are matched with you! I’ve seen dragon rank players systematically killing bosses just to get them stolen by a thief every time it respawns. Bad habits are contracted in unranked: when I was learning the basics (in old soloq), I’ve had more experienced players writing to me angrily in map chat because I wasn’t killing bosses on Niflhel. The basics of the maps are written on a description, but what the players do with them is a matter of experience. I’m all in favor of a rank requirement, but it won’t help bad players to get good.
Oh, and we didn’t need the stab change: it was directed at WvW, for once.
Personally I think ranked should require you have spent at least a couple hours in hot join first.
That way people joining ranked at least are more likely to know the basics.
…we get some requirements to join ranked queue.
I’m really fed up with what I’ve been dealing with lately. No, I can’t carry 4 other people who don’t even know the basics. Here’s some collection of fun things I’ve had experienced the last two weeks:
1. Capping home point in three, then going for chieftan in three, then dying in three.
2. Having people going lord right after the game starts and then shouting at me that it gives 150 points.
3. Guarding treb in two, no reason, just chilling.
4. Having a party of 2 people who wouldn’t go to different places, like they were glued.
5. Winning 2v1’s constantly while my team loses 4v3.
6. Having a warrior camping tranq right from the start of the game. (OMG, it’ll give us ALL THE POINTS)
7. Having people furiously pinging ferocity like their life depends on it.
8. A dude who was just designed to kill npc’s on Forest. He wouldn’t move somewhere else. (I understand why power ranger exists now.)
9. People not rotating at all.
10. Having people fighting off points constantly (Ferocity is their favourite spot.)
11. People who just go suicide to a point over and over and over. This happens almost every single game, there is always at least one person not understanding the basics. Can we finally get something that will prevent us from having games with people like this? Can we get a tutorial, ranked requrements, anything?
I don’t mind new people but for the love of kitten, can they be forced to learn first and then hit the ranked button? We got stab changes we didn’t really need but this is seriously needed.
Work on improving your mmr and you wont get these issues.

The system no longer tries to match you with or against players of similar skill level, this much is visible. What it seems to be doing lately is taking 10 men who enter a que and then devising the best balancing split for the 5v5. Example:
Low MMRs are 1, high MMRs are 10
Red Team: 10, 3, 2, 2, 1
Blue Team 5, 4, 4, 4, 2
This new system seems to punish high MMR players when they solo or duo que. The team with the high MMR is always the team that gets placed with the severely unknowledgable players because the system uses their high MMR to balance a low MMR 4 man against a mid range MMR opposing team. The problem here is that the one high range MMR cannot realistically carry the 4 rabbits/deers by himself against a team of reasonably seasoned players who at the least understand basic rotations and basic meta. Even if the high MMR holds a point the entire match while farming opponents back to back constantly, it still won’t make up for the massacre that is happening on the other two points where the red 3, 2, 2, 1 is getting stomped by the blue 4, 4, 4, 2.
This is the entire core of the problems and complaints that are being currently listed in this spvp forum.

The new system does not punish “high” MMR players when they solo que, MMR is not static after a few games like you describe the MMR will adjust there by eliminating any so called punishment and probably yield a more accurate MMR that reflects the real value to the team.

You’re exagerating. I never get deers and rabids on my team (apart from rank 80 players pretending to be new, which I always found kinda silly). I sometimes get really bad phoenix/dragons, but it ends there. I don’t play in ESL, I don’t have the “Champion Brawler” title, and if you say your MMR is very high and as a result you only get new/terrible players on your side, I believe you. However, a lot of others self-proclaimed high MMR just have an ego issue and don’t seem to realize they are just as bad as their team. Have you ever win a match by a huge margin just to have the terrible thief in the other team say in map chat “worst team ever”?
I have a suggestion:
1. Every new account must start out in hotjoin, until rank 2-3 is reached. From there, they unlock unranked.
2. After playing x amount of matches in unrank, they are allowed to play in ranked. They are not required to win unrank, just put effort in and play.
3. If too many ranked matches are lost (let’s be generous, and say 20 losses in a row) then they are temporarily locked out of ranked, and returned to unrank. They must then play….say 5 matches before returning to ranked, wins or loss does not matter.
4. A brand new, fresh character, right-out-of-the-starter-zone cannot play in ranked unless it competes in three unranked matches first. (An exception could be made if you have a similar class already, but that’s maybe too much of a bother to code.)

I don’t know my MMR, I don’t think my MMR is very high, it can’t even be after the two weeks. However, I doubt it’s still accurate. If you say MMR and matchmaking are correct, then it doesn’t reflect skill. If you can keep 2v1ing players (Yeah, it doesn’t say anything about your ability to win matches.) and the games are no longer challenging but just plain frustrating, then something is wrong. But the problem is I don’t think matchmaking works properly.
I have experience from the other side of the thing. I have a few alt accounts and I’ve been playing some games on them. While I had only about 8 games played IN TOTAL on one account, I was getting much more experienced people and even r80’s. Heck, my first game on a brand new account, I got people who appear in tournies. (It was prime time, no odd hours.) I’ve seen a lot of new people complainig, they get matched with r80’s all the time. So yeah, I do think that maybe some people might have ego issues but this just shows there is some truth about it.
Also, many of my friends who are decent players, have been saying that their games have been horrible. It gets to the point when people are not able to reach 50% winrate even and I know them, I know they are not bad players.
I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve had bad games lately when this never happened before in the times when we had old soloq. Of course I had losing streaks but it wasn’t this frustrating, when you basically know no matter what you do, you can’t win a match. The only thing I can say is that I 95% of time only queue solo.
Also, if it was true and matchmaking was working somehow. How exactly would you work on your mmr? When you’re able to 2v1 but your team loses 4v3? I don’t really think it’s possible. I really do believe this points out to bad matchmaking.
On the other hand, lately I’ve been doing pvp in odd hours but that doesn’t mean there were only a few people in queue. It could explain why I’ve had bad games but it’s really not an excuse for MM not to work at all.
I know that if a player isn’t given some links and stuff, he won’t even have a chance to learn unless he actively tries to find guides. That’s why I suggested to make a tutorial of some sort. All the moba games have tutorials explaining basics and walking you through it. I suppose something like that would be harder to do for gw2 but I think they could find a way. Make a video with basics and common mistakes, force people watch it before they enter queues, make some requirement how many unranked you have to play to play ranked, anything. And I’m saying this even though I have lots games played and on my other accounts I would have to go through it, I just don’t think it’s right to mix new and experienced players.

Ranked Arena Queue Requirement:

P.S – it’s not to offend anyone, but it’ll decrease heavily qq on forums regarding ranked and certain builds. It’s for the good of us all.
Work on improving your mmr and you wont get these issues.
You see these issues more frequently with higher MMR than lower MMR because the game picks worse players to counterbalance your high MMR and average it out to where the enemy team is.
Just last night I played three matches back-to-back where it was myself and four apparently brand new players against 5 decidedly mediocre players. It was a nightmare, and even when I managed to carry to a win in a couple of them, I gained virtually no points, whereas I carried the risk of losing a ton of points if I had lost.

Wow…thanks for clarifying, yesterday i was in ranked and was wondering why the hll there were so many rabbits everywhere.
Unfortunately I believe its the only system that works becauseIf they try grouping 10 highs you will probably get upwards of 10 minute queues, a lot of lows mixed in with the much fewer highs so makes sense to balanace it out like they do now.
Also its actually balanced if there are equal number of inexperienced players on both teams. The last thing a high wants is to be grouped with lows and the other team is filled with highs. Now that would be a problem.

No class stacking over 2. ie: 2 Rangers per team not 3 or 4 or all ranger or any class. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/PvP-Why-is-that-allowed/first#post4917694
