It's official, these players are toxic
Don’t let a few bad apples ruin your day. For each toxic player, there are multiple helpful or just silent players. And if you haven’t noticed it yet, anything competitive will have some toxic players.
I always feel a bit strange when I see forum posts like these. I do a fair bit of PvP and I don’t think I’ve ever run into players like this. Maybe that’s just variance, but I’m curious: do you who experience troubles play ranked? Unranked? Hotjoin? Which region do you play in?

I play unranked on Far Shiverpeaks server.
Sorry to hear that, but yeah sometimes people can’t help themselves. I never whisper people in pvp, but once i found myself doing that because one of my team members was pretending to roleplay with no weapons equipped. We lost by a 20 points, so i whispered him asking him if he enjoys to ruin other people’s pvp experience and to be proud of himself. And blocked him just to see if he’s in pvp.
Just don’t let this get to you, sure, pvp has quite a few bad apples, bust best is to ignorre it or simply write a clever answer back and block. And keep on enjoying pvp.
Some are toxic, true. But most are just common Kraits.
There are always 12 years olds (and people who act like they are 12). Some need their ego boosted by their imagined accomplishments. But it’s not that bad, sometimes you are just unlucky enough to meet more of these, then you won’t see them for weeks.
Some people also love to point out how bad you are after YOU KILLED THEM. This is really weird but happens quite often.
I’d say just keep playing, and if someone sends these messages, block them.
Really? Another one of these “People are so mean” threads?
Yeah, what they are doing is not very nice…
But seriously, harden up.
Ever read the comments on virtually any internet forum/comment section?
Honestly, I sometimes wonder how you people get through life in your sensitive little bubble.
I’ll give you one tip on how to deal with nasty people/trolls.
LAUGH. THEIR TEARS ARE YOUR LOVELY HOT MILK YOUR MUM GIVES YOU BEFORE SHE TUCKS YOU IN.
And i’ll also quote the standard “Welcome to the Internet”.
@OP: sorry to see you had that bad experience. I’m afraid every newcomer has to face the BM. A video game isn’t a place where you can expect maturity or courtesy from everyone in the first place
Still, there are a lot of nice people out there. I suggest you simply unconditionally block every player whispering you, or whining/insulting others in map/team/say chat – don’t even bother to answer, shrug it off and block immediately any form of salt. After a while, only silent/courteous players remain, and the game truly becomes enjoyable.
If you decide to not come back to PvP, then I wish you some happy gaming in your other preferred game modes.

As much as people like to repeat ‘harden up’, ‘welcome to the internet’, et cetera, it’s not necessarily an inability to cope so much as not thinking that experiencing the gameplay is worth experiencing the gamers. If your form of entertainment turns out to be more unpleasant than entertaining, it’s become self-defeating and it makes no sense to continue.
In this case the OP doesn’t even have to give up the whole game, just avoid a small, out-of-the-way part of it.
I think bad people usually flame/blame.
But i also think bad people are the ones that get offended by it…
If you played perfect a game but still lost, you should feel proud over your improving skill and know you will win more than you lose if you continue play on a higher level.
If you did well stat-wise, know stats is nothing.
Know if you keep 2+ players occupied you do well and the fault is not yours if you lose.
etc. etc.
Know you will play worse if you get mad/offended due to focus being elsewere.

OP- One thing I would recommend, which I’ve done, is turn off map and/or say chat. Keep your team chat up so you can see if your side is trying to communicate with you, but that way you won’t see the trolls on the other side.
I’ve encountered other players that try to throw the verbal abuse when I beat them, or when I loose against them. Personally, even when I rage at another player I never let them know it. I might scream at my computer, but I’ll never type it out.
It’s understandable to get angry at the “toxic” players, and it’s especially frustrating if you always seem to see them in the game mode you enjoy most. Try to think of it this way, the time they’re spending trying to antagonize you is time they aren’t keeping their head in the match.
I would recommend trying to play with your guildmates, if possible. Personally, it’s easier for me to ignore the negativity that sometimes overcomes people in PvP if I have my guildies with me. Even if you are a bad player (not saying you are, but everyone starts out new at some point), it’s messed up for them to throw verbal abuse at you. You’re right, though, they are just trying to make themselves feel better. I agree that sPvP would be far better if we just focused on playing and were at least somewhat professional about it.

Won AND lost games both grants you experience, from experience you improve

I’d suggest it is you that live in a bubble, “the Internet” is not like gaming sites, youtube comments, etc, I guess if you only inhabit areas of the internet where the demographics are heavily skewed toward kids and for want of a better phrase manboys, then you might think that, but I can assure you forums for science, wildlife, astronomy, programming, etc are considerably less immature.

just report and instablock those people.
Most of the time, it’s the bad players that spoil the experience for the others anyway, so just remove them from that experience.

Lol! This comment needed more love +1
It sounds like you’re not really interested in PvP though, OP. I’m guessing you’re inexperienced and playing at a low-ish rank? It’ll get better if you stick with it, and learn how to play. Soon as I got past 50 or so the quality of people I ended up in matches with improved significantly. It gets easier to shrug off any hostility and raging too.
There’s always a couple of snarky comments dropped, that is unavoidable, but I have seen no all out flaming in weeks.
It’s best not to play PvP unless you enjoy the environment.
Personally, it makes my day when somebody is whining and crying. The gloves are off at that point and I’m free to go all out. The only problem is that people who start it usually can’t take it and put me on ignore while still whispering themselves.
The best way to deal with these kittens is not say anything. It might be tempting to reply something like “Get out of your mom’s basement before talking to me” but don’t do it. If you reply they win. Their goal is to troll you and make you reply. So don’t say anything – that will drive them crazy.
Then they will try to whisper but if you go offline before pvp-ing they will just waste their time driving them even more crazy.
Then they will try to send a mail but if you keep your box full they will fail again and you will win.

cant say i’ve ever experienced anything as crazy as this. people really do this or are you just making stuff up?
Typical weak/soft player that’s gets offended by few words behind a computer screen. I wonder what those people do if it happens in real life, do you call the cops and stay at your home to prevent any abuse?
Just block them. If you consistently block rude people, it will only be a matter of weeks until you get them all.

I stay home :/
In my experience, this is pretty typical pvper behavior.
Yes, to those that are going to scream “we don’t all act like that,” that is true. Not everyone acts like that, though I find more do act like this than don’t.
Unfortunately the ‘accepted’ solution, as others have said, is to simply block these people; however, I contend that this really isn’t enough. Some modicum of sportsmanlike conduct really should be imposed on what is really just unacceptable behavior. Although, I suppose since we don’t actually impose such rules anymore in real life, it’s just a lost cause.

I personally confront those people, get in their face, and put them in a situation that their words actually have consequences to deal with.
More people tend to not run their mouths IRL because they tend to have to deal with real consequences of such where they dont have to here.

I agree that a thick skin is necessary for the internet, but I also don’t think it should be. So yeah, the short term plan should be ignoring them. In the long term? Seems kind of stupid that we’d all shut ourselves off and let kittenwad behavior be the order of the day.

The thing is, this almost NEVER happens IRL. I have never been insulted in real life, playing any sport or game (with the notable exception of Monopoly and a swiss card game, but friends and family are doing the abuse in that case). People online just tend to get very salty, for no apparent reason. I think OP is a bit overreacting, but he has a point: why are people flaming other players in a game? That makes no sense to me.
You’ve already lost if you get angry enough to post the 1,000000000,000000 thread on this topic. Block and report although don’t report unless its continuous and abusive or A-net won’t do anything. I highly doubt A-net will suspend anyone for typing once you suck go kill yourself.
The flamers go ballistic if you just laugh at them.
Laugh, block, move on.
To be honest if you were good at the game you wouldn’t get called out very much… Just saying =(

Not necessarily; i got into 2 1v1’s with a power ranger on my condi necro, won one lost one. Then said ranger proceeds to kill me in a 1v2 then use that as apremise to tell me to learn to 1v1 and bloxck me… My opinion is that if you get flamed out of nowhere you most likely did something to kitten that person off, getting called a noob for actually being a noob is rarer than being called a noob when youre not(my 1st noob was at rank 50). Oh and if a person flames then insta-blocks you when you didnt really insult them. Then they know that they have no basis to flame you on and that they’re wrong. They may be afraid you’d call them out on that, i used to flame+block so i speak from personal experience :p
EDit: that doeant mean that rank 50 is an expert or anything..

Now here’s a thing. Why did you go far? Were your teammates winning fights? What class were you playing? What map were you in? What comp was your team? Enemy team? Which enemies did you 1v2ed at far? Were you confident that you were going to win 1v2? Was the node decapped or capped? Did you tell your teammates that you will go 1v1 at far? Did your teammates know that you are capable of winning 1v1 fights?
You said you went to far to 1v1 as a “condi necro” against a power ranger. Did you consider that you had no way of escaping/peeling and resetting fights? Also if another enemy came back to far to 1v2 you, then its most likely that you didn’t land or coordinate your conditions on the ranger fast enough to win 1v1 fight or the ranger did very well to survive long enough to hold 1v2. Not only in personal skills, but in a team game, you just costed your team a 3v4 fight in the middle assuming one of your teammates was capturing home, which meant you were the cause of loss in a team fight.
In that way, yeah you made terrible decision, lost, and gets called a noob not only by your enemy but possibly from your team if anyone who understand pvp conquest was in your team. If your team won that match, then its most likely that either enemy team was very bad on coordination (which can happen), or your team was absolutely amazing that they didn’t really need you. Either way you didn’t play well enough, people called you noob, and now your post shows how much you don’t know about Gw2 pvp.
Sure people sometimes say noobs and stuff in spite, but in GW2 without any gear advantage, people usually trashtalk about builds instead of player skills when they 1v1. However in your case it was purely your own skill, so I suggest you keep playing pvp and learn more and more about rotations and mechanical skills.

-1st encounter was at home node, second was when ranger was comng out of his base and we were rushing lord
-I never EVER go 1v2, unless my teammates are going far, and i have plague+wurm up, so i know i can keep 2 occupied for at least 30 secs while we double cap
-I had flesh wurm up, lost when i used it at home node and won the 1v1 when stumbled upon him omw to lord
-I had just started a 1v1 when 2nd ranger showed up. not much i could do there eh?
-nope that was not far, sooo the majority of your wall of text is kinda invalid, since it seems you based your assessment of my skill on the fact that i had gone far
-i always make sure home is captured before going moving out, yet another point made invalid
-We lost btw
-1 salty ranger calling me noob =/= “people”
-only got called noob by a teamate for trying to solo lord(not that same match); we were behind by like 200-300 points near the end, did it for the lulz, and said teammate apologized later
-anything else?
oh and ""people usually trashtalk about builds instead of player skills when they 1v1"" never saw that tbh

Its bad and only getting worse, like everyone said you can block yeah, but the problem is still there. Anet needs to get some moderators to step up on the BM, but then again if they do that there will be nothing left.
I have played,in the past, DotA and Smite. Sadly MOBAS are considered the most toxic of games and there is more sportsmanship in these games then Gw2. Which no longer holds “most friendly MMO” as a title. PvE is no better, full zerker 5k ap or kick. I’ve even seen groups looking for full zerk ascended gear. Hell, several class forums are on the verge of (un)civil war. I’m convinced there isnt much good will left in this community.
Autism being thrown around as a buzzword is what gets me, I have that kitten and its hard enough going through real life with it and now my only escape has become a place to insult people with autism. Thanks guys.

Deathwish on players should never be tolerated stuff like kill urself its just low.
Else i gotta agree with others u need to not let it get to u that much .
In every competitive game u have somone who wants to rub it in how they r better players so just keep playing and learning it dosen’t matter what they think .
What’s annoying is that, a few years ago, we had people at least trying to put arguments upon why someone’s decision/move was bad/not optimal. Today we have people spamming chat with no sense sentences, usually not contributing to help the player understand, and in addition putting in ignore.. I mean, why would you put someone on ignore if you’re right ?
On a side note, this wouldn’t happen if we had titles/emotes to reflect players experience…
