Lack of promotion regarding third party Tournament
http://www.twitch.tv/parisalchuk
they are busy preparing the big update
GG Anet.Thank you for your patience.
I’ll note this as well. The lack of significant Anet support with regards to tournament promotion is rather disheartening. Some of the tournaments I’ve run haven’t even gotten more than a single tweet a few minute before go-time.
I didn’t even know Guild Was 2 had tournaments!
In all seriousness….
yup I agree, GW2 relies on others for there success way too much.
There was a tournament?\
Did you get the memo?
I got the memo.
What did the memo say?
ISENGAARTHK!!
That must have been the wrong memo. They do all these posts like:
Sky Pirates, kill stuff, drink wine and rum, ARRGGGHH
On the website, but don’t promote the pvp side.
The could have had a page like this on the website:
Guild Wars 2 PvP goes to Electronic Sports League. Do you have what it takes to enter the mists? Do you want to watch the teams rise and fall? Stay tuned for further info on this tournament.
-Open until registration closes then locked-
Got what it takes to enter the Mists? Grab your teammates and head to “website for team signup”
-Open a few days before the tournament-
The mists is buzzing with teams from across Tyria, all awaiting the glory of the Tournament this Sunday. The stream links will be available the moment the tournament starts. For those brave souls participating, good luck.
-30.06.2013 – locked until date and time of stream-
Get ready, for the ESL tournament is about to begin.
Head over to “website of stream” now to catch the live action as some of the greatest teams battle it out in full on war. Who will be the victor? Who will claim the glory of the conquest? Find out now
-01.07.2013 locked until after tourney-
You watched them battle it out in the mists, saw teams fall and others rise. These are the champions of the Electronic Sports Leagues’ June Tournament:
Member 1, the brave warrior who cracked the enemies skulls with his maces of justice.
Member 2, or was that a clone? Without Members 2’s portals the team would have fallen
Member 3 and his mighty Dire Wolf, Sir Barkalot. Bunker of team Victory
Member 4, the second bunker of team Victory, and quite a strong Guardian
Member 5, the sneaky assassin thief
These are your champions fellow mist members, let them be remember in the Hall of Heroes.

GW2 needs to make there own tournaments, there shouldn’t be any preset (presets leave to some people no showing and waiting for hours leads to prolonged tournament, nobody wants to wait 10 hours for a tournament to finish.)
So…
Everyone who wants to participate que at 9pm est.
People who want to participate que up.
GW2 matchmaking system creates a tournament with all the ques.
People start there matches.
The pvp window for everyone (even those not in tournament) shows the brackets of the tournament where everyone is at and the scores.
GW2 gives out a reward.
I agree with this. Blizzard, Valve and Riot cross-promote with third-party tournaments all the time. I have no idea why a few tweets and Facebook posts seem adequate to ArenaNet when they have enormous opportunities through the game launcher and official website.

sou how much money did the esport gw1 pro scene make per event?
WoW had a massive playerbase and a lot more ppl pvping and didnt really make it – just sayin
not that i would mind though Event looks nice

The video I posted is just a small proof that MMO CAN be e-sport. One of the main problems GW1 hasn’t developed a well known, strong e-sport would probably be that team size in GvG was 8, which is really hard to pull off. WoW pvp also was not developed with e-sport in mind, and to be perfectly honest, WoW pvp compared to GW1 pvp was just a joke.
Ironic tho, Anet advertised GW2 as a future e-sport game, however what they did not tell us is that this game was actually developed as a pve game, and once all the pve content was done, they just added a few arenas, the mists and voila. That’s your pvp. That’s unfortunately pretty clear. While Anet was making PvE content (which includes all the class skills and traits) they never really considered pvp much.
I mean seriously how ignorant could they be…
My point is, an MMO could be e-sport, if it was built with that in mind…. From day 1 of developement. And Anet was close with GW1, if they only built from that point on in GW2, then GW2 would have been an e-sport by now.
Instead they decided to tear it all down and start from scratch, making mistakes as if they had zero knowledge of what they learned in GW1. Actually it’s even worse. GW2’s design philosophy is in many ways a 180 degrees turn compared to what the philosophy was back in GW1… And it’s a turn to the worse. Stuff that made perfect sense in GW1, makes no sense here at all.
Which leaves me really confused.

100k, 113.5k adjusted for inflation. Starcraft? Biggest I could find this year was 60k, was there something I missed?

Have someone ask this in SOTG.

Your one out of thousands. They should’ve taken Counter-Strike as their role-model. If you look at CS and its evolution you see how successful it was since the first version of it, and still is. What they made was just better graphics and some more maps. No hard work.
A-Net should’ve built GW2 on the basis of GW1, just with a faster pace to make it E-Sport compatible. It’s that easy.
Well , What exactly would you like them to promote ? you really think the pvp is interesting and diverse enough ?
No guild ladder/team ladder in game
No Decent rewards
And still lack of game modes/builds/skills
Sorry no esports here imo
What gives? You claim you want to promote 3rd party tournaments over running tournaments of your own. You claim you want to be an ESports game, and when a respected ESports orginization decides to put your game through a trial tournament you get the word out with a whole 2 Facebook posts and 5 tweets. No post on the website, no post on the log in launcher. No blog post from developers. Just 7 quick easily skipped social media messages, most of which came on the day of and not even before.
GG Anet.
There just is not Enough incentive or interest in pvp atm , reasons above ^^

Rewards like all the other esports? Game modes/builds/skills like all the other esports?
Some of you are so transparent it’s actually a little embarrassing to watch.
I’m afraid promoting fictional/imaginary pvp content (yes, I’m looking at all the big talk about esportz) only works a single time.
It was a trial tournie…
What exactly do you promote? “Come watch this trial!”?

They are aware of their unfinished product. No need to extend it further more.Maybe they will do it at some point in the future but which future?Waited 10 months to see myself silently fending off.
Its just pity.So many good innovations for nothing.
Nonetheless hoped to get disproved before any other MMO take its place because then it will be late and only then they might get the message.
Arena net definitely should have promoted this tournament more. Maybe there was a specific reason that they didn’t? I would like to see a developer respond to this inquiry.
I didn’t see much player promotion for the tournament either. Was there a form thread in these forums prior to the tournament?
(edited by gwawer.9805)
Tournament viewership has gone down steadily from the inception of the pvp event sub forum. Hardly anyone visits that forum to see when events are on.

The promotion thread, I just don’t think people are aware of its existence.

That sub-forum needs to go away. Re-routing events with such a small playerbase is counter productive.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having it, makes it very easy to track down events when this general forum is otherwise swarmed with crap threads about “nerf this”, “buff that”, “daed game”, and so on. I don’t want to sift through the garbage here just to find events.
If anything, just post it in here as well when its something as big as ESL. Or make a cross-over bulletin at the top of this forum that updates with “hot topics” from the events subforum.
And what exactly did people expect? The maximum we’ve had was 4k during a long advertised, Guru (very well known GW2 forum under Curse) tournament with actual winnings at stake. ESL had a couple hundred over 2k for a trial, and, I’m sorry to say, but its hard for an audience to invest when there’s bugger-all being fought over.
If you want to know the biggest problem, its simple: way to many events that are fracturing attention. I can’t spend all day, every week watching events, I want to play too sometime. This is why I’ve slowly started just following blu, grouch, and MistLeague, and ESL because it was a special occasion, and even then I’m still limited on how much time I can throw around.

Biggest problem is that spvp in current state is plain bad.
I’d prefer Anet to avoid push the spvp on esport scene (and be laughed at) now that it is at very least incomplete, work on make it whorty and then, push it hard.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
No the current state of spvp is kinda like No reward No point , honest

It was a trial to show that there is interest in pvp to see if it was worth ESL’s time to pick up. That is something you would want a lot of people to watch to show that there is interest, no?

Exactly, if you want your game to be an esport, and an esport company rocks up and says, “hey, lets see how this goes and how many are interested”. Then there is no promotion of it and hardly anyone shows up (wether that’s due to no one showing up or due to lack of promotion) then that esport company says, “well not much interest so, sorry GW2, onto the next game on our list”.

Almost no one promoted this thing outside of an almost last minute reddit post, a post in the events forum, and the two weeks or so ago post about ESL showing interest (again). I’ve seen MistLeague have better promotions. Guru had a constant “keeping you aware of it” promotion. Moreover, the stream was terrible and many viewers as they themselves stated in posts or in the chat just couldn’t watch it because of the stream quality (which may be a sad catch 22).
Maybe the dev’s think (as they probably should) thakittens not really time to pick the game up in ESL? Custom Arenas (the very heart of these tournaments) is still clunky. The game is quasi-stable… maybe, for once, their waiting for their eggs to hatch before offering to sell chickens. Maybe it was nice to see how many people would show up for something like this… who knows.
And, ya, we should expect the dev’s to advertise and they did. But how much clout do you think a dev is going to have to have this posted on the loading screne when so you don’t even have a tenth of the same community-built promotion as the Guru tournie?

the specific reason is that Anet doesn’t care, the player community doesn’t really care either for the most part, the sPvP community is pretty small compared to the overall game population.
For the normal player tournaments are just boring after 2 or 3 times. The first tournaments i saw all – now i dont even care when they are.
There are always the same teams and nooone rly know what they fight for or whos the best now cause they won this but lost last tournament and so on.
AND the top teams dont have faces – only paradigm in EU ppl know and whatch and all the others are just teamnames.
than seriously this caster – helseth – never invite this guy again^^

I don’t know if anyone knows what Live on 3 is, but I now know why they have never talked about Guild Wars 2. Live on 3 is a talk show with 1 special host, and a few special guests. Hosted by DJ Wheat and Slasher.
This show just talks about current esports or just esports in general. Games that are up and coming in the world of esports. Anet as done very little to try and get their name out there. They could have had something on Gamespot by now, it boggles my mind that they haven’t
