Laurels
It’s just anet not think of the consequences of their implementations. It happens patch after patch, they implement stuff(and most time they’re good ideas!) but they can’t think of the consequences of what they do and workarounds to that. Theres no tutorial for beginners, theres no rank requirement to join a match (how can they possibly not have thought of a way to prevent rank 1s in their first match from joining a tournament?), there no way to report leavers (you cant even see who they were because their name disappears from the team list), theres no way to prevent people from swaping chars mid game. Like i said in another post, everything feels amateurish and unfinished. And now, along with the incentive to bring pvers into casual spvp play, they should have figured a way to separate those who just want to finish the 3 games from those who actually give a kitten about winning.

Once those R1s play a few rounds in tPVP and lose, you won’t see them again since the system will start matching them with players of equal skill. Before it can figure out their skill it needs to match them with both high and low skill players to determine where they fit in. It will work itself out in about a week.
np, double monthly laurels are only for this month (I hope), next month you’ll see far less pvers trying to get their 3 tournament victories (which most of them won’t be able to get unless heavily carried anyway)

Uh….pretty sure this isn’t the case in GW2, Now in any other game, sure.
I’ve been matched with lvl 40’s and lvl 1’s all the same regardless. I’ve had pro’s with complete and utter novices.

I’m convinced tournies don’t have any form of balance matchmaking.
People complaining because rank 1 are playing. Well, I’ll tell you a secret.
You want the game to grow right? Then you will want to see rank 1.
If you dont see new people around, the game will eventually die.
So do your best to help them and dont flame because you lost invisible rating
its not bad that new people are playing.
what is bad is that there is no form of matchmaking. or of there is, it’s very minimal. if anything, for solo que/tournaments in general, there ought to be a rank requirement of at least 10. until then, do hotjoins until you figure out the game/maps.
on top of that, take out the tournament matches played portion of the monthly.

People aren’t complaining that rank 1 are in spvp, but that they que up for tpvp. Its a big difference because at rank 1 odds are extremely high that you don’t even know what the map looks like, what buffs do what, and the point of game mode.
I don’t mind low ranks in hotjoins, its fine either way. But in tournies? Thats just bringing down the team most of the time.
(Can’t tell you how many times I’ve played solo que or had 4 out of 5 for que and the one low rank just runs around asking “what do i do? What does this do? I died 5v1 right by their spawn, you should have helped me!”

But its not like we are asking that they can’t enter tournament, just that they enter when they at least probably know a little bit more about the game.
To my knowledge it is not possible to get both laurel rewards for the dailies or monthlies, but this month players who had already completed the PvE monthly (and not the PvP one) when the patch hit were able to get the additional monthly PvP laurel.
I think it’s a good change, although Anet probably could have gotten more people interested in PvP if they just had a couple more features ready when they introduced the laurels. As it is, some will become interested but quite a few will win their ten games and not come back for quite some time.
Edit: actually I hope the rank 1-5 people DO end up in tournaments, since hotjoin will probably turn them away from PvP in general.
