K, let’s be honest and straightforward here…thief isn’t exactly the most viable profession at the moment, and in comparison to most specs, the thief is required to be of much higher mechanical skill to match. But this doesn’t mean that in ques people should throw up their arms/rage/point fingers/be discouraged/give up whenever a thief is on their team, as most of the time in solo que the professions don’t really matter. Personally, I believe thief can be somewhat viable with the right composition and team. The purpose of this post is to hopefully address these issues and encourage players to understand that thief does not always mean an automatic loss.
Thief, when played right, can be a force. The daredevil elite is extremely potent, and thief can still decap well and 2v1 fights efficiently, as most opposing teams do not run full bunk with 2 bunker mesmers and comms like proleague.
However, that is to say that the thief role should not be restricted to 2v1ing, killing bosses on Nifhel, and decapping. I don’t think thief should stay in massive teamfights (4v4+) at all, but thief can do the job well in small skirmishes. The thief “role” is not really a “role” as it is just being a player that is aware of the map and do well in skirmishes, peeling, and supporting other team members. I can’t stress this enough and I hope players reading this will understand that there really is no thief “job” but really just being a solid and map aware member of the team.
On the other hand, I will acknowledge that I also only trust a few players of the community with playing thief effectively on a team in ques, and of course that is an issue I’m sure is well recognized. However, more than likely, that thief’s MMR will compensate for any skill differences, and thus if you see a thief in que, more than likely your team will do just fine if you keep yourself from being discouraged.

It would help greatly if there weren’t so many sheeple.

Oh and even teevz talk kitten to each others, for some reason, every time i encounter another teef he’s the special snowflake who’s entitled to play teef, coz he’s the actual only greatestest.

1 thief is bad, if not in pre-made, 2 thief is very good, especially in strongholds!

Yeah, i really wish people would stop giving up before match even started just because there is thief on team. Or even worse, verbally abuse thief players just for playing the class.

yeah probably because you play with premades or ask ppl to play with you ( i saw the whispers you sent to other pro league players)
not to mention e-fame

go make no name thief and queue couple times, you would be amazed how low people can get

if u play a thief, your team will be mad becouse its like a player in basketball who plays with one hand only on purpose.

I said out of my point of view, If you mean i ask other players to duo queue then yeah of course, it’s much more fun to watch if you have somewhat synergy (for example mes/thief duo) than just going in solo, also highers your chance of actually winning by a lot. “premade” go check my stream, most of my games are solo/duo.

And as said, this is from my point of view. Never when I had someone on thief in my team has there ever been complains.

If this can give you some insight on a non-thief POV.

I dont welcome thieves because when I see one I know I have to work extra in team fights because they can’t stand on their own.
Thieves mechanics are awesome, the target focus and instant kill is a great help

BUT.

This requires coordination, group support and independance from the fifth member to function correctly. This is not achievable by average/high skilled players.
Even my pvp leader that used to be ranked top 100th du pre-HoT admits thief is fustrating in the way that he cannot change the flow of the game and only grow a wider gap when winning.

If you are looking for target focus in team fights, a rev will do the job better in any way. As for decap, ppl tend to drop a scrapper on far. Good luck duelling that.
My issue is that thieves do not help much if the team has a weakness or cannot 4v5.

So yeah, i’d call that a liability.

TL; DR. Thieves rely on teammates to be effective. In random teammates rely on YOU.

I haven’t received much hate either, but there’s the occasional rambling. I just see it a lot from the enemy side of things for their thieves, and it’s just terrible the things that some people say. It isn’t conducive for newcomers.
