League System Majorly Missed the Mark
Here is the thing, the system will try to match you with people of your skill, but if there ain’t enough, it has to wider the tollerance in MMR difference, otherwise you won’t play at all. Is a population issue, we just need more players, that’s it.
The MMR system is one of the best around, actually, but if there arent other 9 with similar MMR as you, it has to compensate.
Wat r u, casul?
The new players aren’t coming or are quickly driven away by being hammered in matches. I brought a guardian friend to pvp, after getting crushed 5v1 he vowed never to come back.
Anet could mitigate the damage somewhat by bringing back solo queue. In fact, I think all ranked matches should be solo queue. I haven’t pvp’d yet in GW1 but my understanding is that teams aren’t permitted?
If the intent were truly to be competitive and skill based, teams would be forbidden since they give a major advantage and conceal the weakness of individuals.
I’m no longer certain that ANET wants pvp to succeed.

A 5 vs 1 situation is L2P issue since only 2 things could of occured.
1) he ran into a point he was gonna get slaughtered at.
2) Team mates are either running in 1 by 1 or fighting at another point and lost therefore starting the snowball effect.
Both are L2P issues that deal understanding your class/build/team set up and not acting like a hero. PvE players typically do that to since you can kind of just run into mobs. Here in PvP land, its not so forgiving.

Players of similar skill should only be matched up when both sides reach an appropriate division or after the really good people in a division rank out of it. For example if a season starts the best teams should fight the worst for fast progression and top teams only meeting each other in legendary.
This would ensure fair matchmaking after everything settles.
" we just need more players, that’s it."
The league tags were a step in the right direction, now they need to fix abuse loopholes and radical class rebalancing while adding more map types. Spiritwatch would be great adding to ranked because it lacks NPC’s and trebs and the secondary objective is actually fun. Another would be a channel progression map where you try stopping their progression while doing the most to help your own. Something like Voidstar. Another would be like Alterac Valley with a big map with big teams facing each other complete with choke points, but designed in a way where NPC zerging isn’t viable. Actually…scrap NPCs assign certain players to defense watching over the channeling station. Yes, channel at the opposing team’s base and players decide beforehand who is on team defense or offense and in what quantities until a meta is established.

It’s actually been here for a week ^_^

I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean a literal 5v1. Or maybe he did…?
I had a few guildmates try out pvp, them being past rank 20, and they couldn’t stop being faced against either premade or complete blow out matches. This was after me giving advice and helping them understand the lower leagues can be a bit frustrating. But that’s the issue – this shouldn’t be frustrating play experience for new players – they just straight up leave and never come back.
