Honestly i don’t think team leaderboard will be different.

I think the only difference is if you’re 3+ with the same tag, Your guild tag will compete in the team leaderboard.

Ranked queue will be the same like now.

I honestly don’t aspect big changes about matchamking and LB score, i think more or less it will be the same.

I only hope 5 men team only vs 5 mean team, if They can force a little this match up.

It seems like the leagues will basically be farmboards, while guild team leaderboards will be the actual skill-based leaderboard. Maybe that’s a reasonable compromise between casuals and more competitive players, but it’s certainly not leagues in the traditional sense.

If the queues don’t split or change both of them won’t mean anything.

I wanted to drop a comment here, seeing all these “Solo being farmed” comments. Remember that although the current queue system isn’t by any means perfect, we are talking about Ranked play. They made the points system in a manner that, even losing you still get points/don’t lose any, which translates into rewards.

The issue is that at the higher levels you are losing pips and tiers (though not divisions) and the simple fact is, the higher ranked you are the more competitively minded you’re likely to be. Also the higher ranked you are the more likely you are to want to have a good match and actually fair competition (i.e. not a stomp) however you’re not going to get that because you might run into premades (something solo queue removes completely). This is further compounded because premades are more likely to be higher ranked in general and the higher ranked you are the more important communication becomes.

Essentially getting through the Legend division as a solo player will be a nightmare because you’re more likely to run into good premades and premades have even more of an inherent advantage at that level, imo at least.

I can’t disagree with that. It will indeed be hard to get into Legendary League, but as you said, you can’t drop out of it. I wonder how everything will end up being. I’d say it won’t be as rough as it sounds.

Let’s hope the community grows much larger (supposedly thanks to competition and rewards added via this League system) and that they stay, so ANet tries in the end to bring Solo Queue back! This is in the end great news right?

They said it will reset after a tournament. So you’re not stuck in that league for long.

First, they have to fix the individual matchup system to make league meaningful.
Currently, you get matched up with players of drastic skill difference. You get weird profession composition when queuing solo. It just won’t work out for anyone who is not playing with a premade team.

I haven’t qued solo for months. if I’ve got no guildies on i just go make a smoothie or log onto Black Desert. solo is too much of a gamble if you are trying to actually get the legendary. you will get things like scrub condi thieves, or no bunker comps etc and loose matches leaving you stuck in divisions 3/4.

team games where rotation and comp matter are stupid to play solo.

Yes they will. Why? Because it’s possible and we’ve had a few years of catering to solo/casual play. Teamplay has never almost never been an incentive (except for paid tournaments).
You could argue that by playing in a team you’ll have a higher winrate. But a big part of that is because you’re against solo’s, duo’s, etc.
If this doesn’t change all it does is make it more rewarding to farm. Especially if they don’t put a hardlimit on the matchmaking (only legendaries against legendaries, etc.).

And it needs to be there at HoT launch. It’ll be the biggest retention factor.
To counter the population issues, do it only in ranked. And limit leagueplay only to ranked.

And with stronghold? That’s a difficult one. Conquest/stronghold split is kinda needed as its two completely different things and it would taint the credibility of team LB’s/leagues if it’s just meshed together.
On the other hand it might create more population issues. But I’d say take the risk, we’ll have enough people at launch.

Lol @ people who get excited about this. You realise anet are the company who:
1, Gave us skyhammer
2, Got rid of solo queue for no reason
3, Decided we suddenly had to queue in the heart of the mists
4, Had an 18 month celestial meta then did a balance patch where they accidentally buffed celestial because math is hard.
5, Got rid of leaderboards because…lol

Right. That’s sort of how the farmboard works if you’re familiar with the back-end of the system — losses aren’t that punishing (for example, you can’t get kicked out of a division once you reach it, even at the highest divisions), while wins advance you. The point is it amounts to a pretty big grind.

did you even read the quote? it clearly says that in tiers above 3 you will drop divisions with enough losses. so to stay in division 5 you will have to keep your winrate up.

It says you drop tiers. Tiers are different sections within divisions.

Here’s the full description from Curse:

“There are six Divisions, starting with Amber and ending at Legendary. Divisions are broken up into a variable number of tiers, and each tier has several pips. To cross into the next division, you must complete all the tiers in your current division.

These sound more like glorified reward tracks than actual leagues — particularly the part about farming the legendary division over and over.

But, again, I think that’s fine because it seems like guild team leaderboards, which will be used to qualify for tournaments, will be ELO-based.

To me it sounded like LoL divisions. I’ll be ok with that.

At that same juncture, it seems like those who SPvP more will have a better time advancing since there doesn’t seem to be a risk to get knocked down a division. It only takes a bit of luck to get matched up with a series of good teammates to push you over to the next division.

BUT, this is still good. If I were Arena-net, this first rendition of Leagues would be to analyze the density of players across the divisions and get metrics on how many advance, how many fall back, how many linger at the lowest pip of the lowest tier, etc.

Ultimately when the numbers really start coming in, they might make the divisions even more closely related to LoL’s system by introducing things like diminishing rank due to inactivity or things of that sort.

There’s a lot that could be done, but I am quite happy that something like this will be coming, it was the biggest thing that held me personally back from SPvPing more than I was now.

So if i understand correctly you cannot drop down a division? I think that is a bad thing especially for the higher divisions. But then again depending on the length of the seasons it may not matter that much.

I don’t there will be more full premade, i think there will be more duo/trio queue so soloqueue/duoqueue it’s necessary to full a team. The big problem is when you face an entire 5 man team against random composition. This is imho the biggest issue.

The problem is team q needs to be rewarding. The gameplay (team vs team) in itself is rewarding, the leaderboards (if they’ll work right) will be rewarding, but I’m afraid it’ll be not enough.
We’ve seen in the past that all the fluff really attracts people however for the past year(s) the game has catered towards solo play.
I think it’ll need a little more umpfh to attract teams/premades.

Ofcourse an Automated Tournament system in addition to the leagues would also work. But we won’t get that. :p

Well, LoL is even more reliant on teamplay, rotations and teamcomp, and yet soloQ works extremely well and your soloQ rank gives a good representation of your level.

Honestly your post sounds like bad LoL player who spend their time trying to explain how they’re stuck at a bad rating because of their badluck.

Now about the topic, it is a very good implement, however it NEEDS to bring soloQ back with it, otherwise solo players will be left in the corner.

SoloQ is mandatory to a competitive PvP game, even if it’s a team based game because
1) it enable solo player to be noticed by teams or other players trying to make a team
2) it gives a competitive environment to people who does not have enough time available to be part of a team

Looks like they’re trying to go towards something that looks like LoL system with the leagues, so why not copying all the way and separating solo (duo) Q to team Q ?

Honestly i had great games with trio queue involved in the matchmaking. Like trio vs trio + 2 solo or a 2 duo queue. And i think the Anet idea is giving good space to trioqueue or partial premade in pvp leagues and they designed the team leaderboard to be 3+ and not only 5 men.

The big issue is when you are on extremes of roster size, like a full solo against a full premades or 4 men against soloers. This shouldn’t never happen, the match is really not fun and your chance of winning is really low.

This aspect i think it could be fixed in the matchmaking formula and i hope they will do it.

Keep in mind we’ll have a strong queues separation with HoT, 4 queues in total (strong/conquest unranked + strong/conquest ranked). Adding more queues separation is not a really good idea, probably the better way is to improve the matchmaking algorithm.

I think they will make some modifcation to matchmaking algorithm to consider your league positions and i hope they can add more filters to avoid bad roster size situations.

I can’t confirm this but they spoke about tickets (it depends on division) and with these tickets you will able to buy pvp stuff.

I know. Stronghold kinda poses a bit of a problem atm. :p
Anet will want to push stronghold which I have no problem with. The queues will be split as we’ve seen in the tests. But I hope they’ll also split the leagues + leaderboards for them. Stronghold and conquest are very different and meshing them together in leagues/lb’s will invalidate them quite a bit (imo).

I can live with duo/trio’s in teamqueue, I guess.
Automated tournaments (if they ever consider adding them) could be nice then to be purely full team-queue.

Anyway, I hope they address this in their blog tomorrow.

Partiality towards premades? I don’t get that. How so?
Both soloq’ers and teamq’ers are kittened in the current system. You think people like to farm solo’s?

And like I’ve said before it is still a teammode/game. There should be partiality towards premades/teams (imo).

Playing as a team is not the same as playing vs premades. Soloers play in teams every time they get into a match. This thread is not about dueling. GW2 is very much a team game even with full solo teams.
